  1. BAT/gmax glitch

Huge fix you guys, thanks! No wonder nothing would render. In fact, everything froze when I tried. Soooo... I decided to follow your instructions/advice, then follow the tutorial exactly and voila! I rendered my first model a few minutes ago and I'm really proud of myself. Thanks again Ill
  2. BAT/gmax glitch

Thanks av. Since this is important, I'm going to take your answers one at a time. 1. Snap tool not working because of incorrect scale. a) The scale settings are all according to the BAT tutorial. Under "Menu>Customize>Units Setup" I toggled the "Generic Units" button. b) Under "Menu>Customize>Preferences>System Unit Scale" I've set them to "1 unit = 1 meter" c) Under "Menu>Customize>Grid and Snap Settings>Home Grid", I've set "Grid Spacing to "1.0" and "Major lines every Nth" to 16. Can you see if something here is off? Thanks for the heads up on "Axis constraint". If I use the front view, the rectangle will snap to the vertices in the door frame, just like they're supposed to. I understand that splines and meshes are different, but doesn't gmax/bat give us the option of having a spline "Display" a mesh around it? That is what I'm assuming the author of the BAT tutorial is talking about. Besides, I've seen splines display a mesh before, so I don't understand why it's not doing it this time. As far as rendering, I'm going to leave that alone until I have the modeling techniques organized. But you're right, I'd like to make sure I'm not doing something that will prevent a model or some important object from appearing in the renderer. Specifically, I'm starting to look into Texturing and I need to get the basics down so I can avoid rendering problems. Thanks again.
  3. BAT/gmax glitch

oooooooh!!! lookee all the icky yellow lines went away......! Thanks tungston! I'm still looking for different ways to get the spline mesh to appear but now I can play all day on what I've got so far. Thanks again.
  4. BAT/gmax glitch

Thanks alot tungston... It actually seemed to work (it snapped to the door) but only as a spline and no mesh. The boxes are checked and it's set to .3 per the tut. Also, do you know how that light/camera rig got there at 0.0.0? It would be nice to at least be able to hide it.
  5. BAT/gmax glitch

If I've posted this to the wrong group, please accept my apologies and feel free to move it to the appropriate forum. I'm following STOmnibus' BAT Essentials Tutorial and I'm stumped with a technical obstacle. I've used gmax for awhile so I'm fairly familiar with it. The problem seems to be two-fold. 1. At the "Windows and Doors" section of the tutorial, I'm supposed to set the 3d Snap button and the "Display Mesh" in the Mesh Settings rollout. I did both and these are the results. Hmmm, seems I'm not doing the screenshot pasting right, either. (I think I've successfully attached the .jpg file, so if you can take a look, I'd appreciate it.) Anyway... the Rectangle will snap to the vertex in the upper left hand corner of the door, but will only draw out along two axes. (the image shows the rectangle spline extending back and left). I can draw it to the bottom, opposite corner of the door vertex, but it only draws from the top left of the door, to the top right. 2. The spline isn't displaying the mesh, even though the "Display Mesh" radio box is switched on. I can get the rectangle to "Extrude" but it's only visible along the top of the door frame. This is a new install of gmax and I just downloaded BAT from SimCity.com yesterday. Everything else seems to be working fine. Anybody have any ideas? BTW: I'm aware the image shows that neither the "Display Mesh" or "Generate Mapping Coords." boxes are checked. Be assured I have tried checked, unchecked, rebooting, all the different "Snap" settings, Mesh settings, Extrude Settings... I'm at a loss here. System: Dell Dimension 2350 running WinXP w/SP2, Intel Extreme Graphics Software, MicroTrend Anti-virus... Wetware: 50 year old partly crippled, middle-aged male with high cholesterol, extra weight and severely diminished cerebral throughput. I'm better, but I'm still Ill TIA
  6. Please Help... my cities suck :(

A pic or two would help. How is your income/expense ratio? I found it helped to get cities started if I got my income to be higher than my expenses and just let some money fill the coffers. Then I could afford to terraform, build mass transit or zone to generate more income. Do you know how to manage your expenses yet? Ill
  7. Introduce Yourself Here!

Hi everybody, I'm new here to ST5.0 and can I say to all the people that make this site work that, hey, wow, it really works! Thanks for all your hard effort at making this site as functional as it is beautiful. About me: I bought the first SC game a really long time ago and I think I've owned every one since. I've owned and played SC4Delux for a few years now, along with gmax (which may be the COOLEST thing in all of gaming). I've finally figured out how to build a metropolis and make millions doing it so now I'm looking for a way to bring it all together. So I go over to SimCity.com and because I product-registered with a now-defunct email account, I can't get my password, I can't do a new product registration because the system tells me the serial is invalid or it's already registered and EA hasn't been able to straighten things out yet. I need help. I bought the gmax Bible by Kelly Murdock but can't find the disc. It doesn't have B.A.T., the Lot Editor or the Plugin Manager and as yet, I can't download them from SC.com. This all seems really complicated. But I'm so fired up... I've been using gmax quite awhile and I've gotten pretty good at it and I really want to try my skills at building something great and putting it into my game or even up on the site here. I'm a single dad of a wonderful 13 year old boy. We live in Los Angeles, I'm semi-retired because of my health and I wrote a novel last year. I'd really like to pull all of the SC4/gmax/BAT/LE/PM and content together and see what I can do. I've just started reading through the Forums in earnest so I don't have a clear idea of how it all works but I'm getting there. Once I can get the product registration cleared up and download the updates, BAT, etc, I think I'll setup a dedicated drive, do a new install of all of it, and start out organized... there's just WAY too much info here and too many byways to stagger off into. So, that's all for now and I look forward to seeing the work that's been done here and having some fun. I'm better, but I'm still; Ill
