  1. All, I downloaded ths simgoober bus stop mod and plopped a few in my town. The problem is that I cannot find them anymore. With the maxis ones, when I turn on the traffic overlay, the bus stops highlight but not these. Am I missing something? I would love to use the simgoober ones but after playing a bit, it is hard to remember where they all are Thx jonpfl
  2. Bus stop mod question

Good idea about the signs I have never used them before, how do you turn them on and off? Thx, jonpfl
  3. Suburban Bus Stop Set

How can you find the bus stop once placed? I usually use the traffic overlay but it doesn't seem to work for this mod
  4. All, Is there some sort of filter tool so I can just find residential, commercial or industrial mods? I also am hoping to only find ploppable mods. Thx, jonpfl
  5. Exchange file question?

Plopable is something you dont need to zone, simply plop it after selecting it from some list. Landmarks menu for example,..you'll find your downloaded plopable buildings there. While growable, is something you need to zone first, or else it wont ever exist in your city...in your case, building with only 3x3 has no problem with growing even without holding the ctrl-button, it only "helps" the building to grow if you really wanna do the zoning technique. And yes technically it can still grow in three row 1x3. But in other case, buildings that has a bigger zone like 4x6, 4x7, 5x5, etc, will need an assistance for them to grow by holding the ctrl-button while zoning. Notice the number that comes first, for example in 4x7 building. 4 needs to be facing the roads not the 7. If you zone it vice versa, 7x4 in this case, the building you intended to build will never grow. You'll have another building instead, and that's the building that required a 7x4 zone. That's why the zoning here is essential. always pay attention to the numbers that come first, for that must be the one to face the roads/streets. Sometimes you can find the zoning technique included in the readme file if the building has a large zone. So, don't forget to read them. But you musn't forget the other factors like demands or desirabilty. if you don't have them both, even your zoning is perfect, it will still not growing. I noticed that a bunch of cool commercial mods I downloaded (ie McDonald's, arbies, etc) require 3x3 so it doesn't matter if I zone 3 1x3 or 1 3x3? Of course assuming desire is there Thx jonpfl Also, can you plop a C building and jobs will just appear and be filled?
  6. Exchange file question?

It's only a matter of growable and plopable, that's all. You won't see any of growable buildings you've download until the time is right. And i'm talking about in the availabilty of demand itself, desirabilty factors and zoning technique. Still, even when the demand is high, evergreen desirabilty, some bulding will only grow in certain type of zoning. If you zone it in the wrong way it won't grow no matter what. Holding the ctrl button while zoning is the key. Well, I guess I don't understand ploppable. Don't you just select it from the list a plop it down somewhere? Why does zoning matter in that case? Also, you mention it only matters for towable and ploppable, what else is there? Also, if I zone a 3x3 low density, can a 1x3 low density be built there and split up the zone? Can 3 1x3 low density get a 3x3 low density building (essentially taking over 3 lots)? Thx, jonpfl
  7. Exchange file question?

Shouldn't be any problem with SimGoober's material. What will appear in the game will depend upon what the items are you have installed. Perhaps they're of higher stages and haven't grown yet. Or perhaps need other needs met. You should be able to find a copy of the Maxis default maps in the C:\Program Files\Maxis\SimCity 4 Deluxe\Regions directory. Just move the existing one out from the regions folder in the My Documents location and copy the other in if you want to keep the same name. Oh, and a quick note.... You can add more to your posts by using the "Edit" option at the bottom of the post window. Doing that will eliminate the need to post multiple times in a row. Oh, I think I might realize what I am doing wrong! Read in another post that when I lay my lots down, I can hold ctrl to make lots bigger than 1x3! I think a bunch of things I downloaded require 2x2 or 3x3! I just assumed if you lay a three 1x3 in a row, it could be changed to 3x3. True? Thx, jonpfl
  8. Exchange file question?

Do I have unrealistic expectations? I was hoping to put all these mods in place and to be able to start a city and not see the same ole maxis buildings. I believe I downloaded quite a few residential and industry lots but when I start a new city, it looks the same (didn't play at long) The only time I saw any simgoober mods when I loaded that per existing maxis default city Thx, jonpfl
  9. Exchange file question?

Ok, I loaded up a default Maxis map with a decent sized town/city on it (20k+). When I loaded up the map, I had a handful of the mods on there but not as many as I expected. I didn't count all the simgoober mods I downloaded but I would guess at 30 have been downloaded to my plugin directory. I assume this is normal behavior in that the majority of buildings will still be default maxis ones, right? I swore I didn't see any dirty industry or residential ones either, only commercial (IE chuck e cheese, jiffy lube, kinks and fireworks place come ton mind). Does the amount that show up have anything to do with the map or an existing city? Thx jonpfl
  10. Exchange file question?

Ok, I went and downloaded a ton of Simgoober mods and put them in my plugin directory I didn't put them in the main plugin directory and instead a subdirectory. It doesn't seem like any of them showing up, what else do I need to do? Also, if I want to start the map clean (no cities), how do I do that? I accidently erased London and want it back Thx jonpfl
  11. Exchange file question?

When I installed it, all that was included was 2 SC4LOT files 1 SC4MODEL file I assume the CO$$ is the growable version and the the SG_4x4_CocaColaBuilding_....SC4Lot is the reward building right? Thx
  12. Exchange file question?

Ok, I added a Coca Cola building from SG and it worked fine but I noticed when I use the travel query tool, it doesn't show where the workers are coming from. Is this normal or did I miss some dependancy? Dependancies To ensure the proper functionality, make sure the files mentioned Below are installed in the plugins folder. Base / Overlay textures: The Lot Editor makes it nearly impossible to tell which of these packs are in use, so I would suggest keeping all 6 of them on your system. These are the primary custom textures I usually use. BSC PEG Texture Pack Vol 01 (Pegasus) Cerulean Textures V101 BSC Texture Pack Vol1 (Geoffhaw) BSC Texture Pack Vol2 (Geoffhaw) BSC Texture Pack Vol3 (Geoffhaw) BSC Texture Pack Vol4 (Geoffhaw) Prop Packs : These contain custom props which are used on these lots. Missing these won't be quite as obvious, but some or many small details will be missing from your lots. 13. Exchange file question?

And I assume if you install a mod and all the dependencies are not there, it will just show up in your city as a big brown box, right? It will still function correctly but just look ugly, right? If you do have a big brown box, can you query it to see what is causing the problem and then start investigating it from that level (IE will it tell you the box is supposed to be a Red Lobster restaurant)? Thx jonpfl
  14. Help with plugins

Now this is a historical list, and all of the items under any of these subfolders may not currently be in my Plugins folder. Some have been removed for conflicts, but I keep them here as a reminder, with notes. Here is my Plugins folder: Note that there is one file here. The Extra Cheats dll file must be at the top level of Plugins. Also, see that some extra folders have been added at the end to force some plugins to load last. If you compare this to the downloads list, there is not a 1:1 correspondence. If you want a complete list, PM me. I won't take up more server space with a fully expanded list. How big is your plugin folder? Thx jonpfl
  15. Exchange file question?

All, So it is safe to just put all the dependancies in one directory? I keep reading about how if you install this, make sure you get rid of something else If everything is in the same directory, you don't have to worry, right? Thx jonpfl
  16. Exchange file question?

First you need to mention what kinda mod is that. maybe we can help you find the dependency. Second, sorry that's just to many for us to pinpoint all dependencies used by Simgoober. You don't need all dependencies if you just download some of Simgoober's bats/lots. In any case, all the dependencies and their links included in the readme file once you finished downloading. You just need to focus on that. Well, I was at my home PC last night trying to install some and noticed when I searched from some they said they were obsolete. I will download the ones you mentioned and go from there Thx!! So, it is pretty safe to assume that every mod done by Simgoober will be convered by everything mentioned above? I will read the readmes just in case though You could spend hours upon hours downloading all the cool user content, it is amazing Thx jonpfl EDIT : Here is one file I just looked at (Hooters) and noticed a bunch of dependancies What is the best way to go about finding them? Just search on this stie? Dependencies: These files should be in your Maxis/Plugins folder. They are prop packs released on the SimTropolis Exchange (STEX), that are used by many lots. They may not all be in use on this lot, but it would be a good idea to have them. 17. Exchange file question?

First, sorry for posting in the wrong section I downloaded a bunch of simgoober mods but have not installed them yet. I noticed that some of the older ones require obsolete dependency files and it is quite confusing. Does anyone have a comprehensive list of all dependencies that Simgoober has used? I was hoping to just plop a bunch of them down in my plugin directory Thx jonpfl
  18. Exchange file question?

Are there building packs out there where I just unzip a big file and add a bunch of new buildings? I was hoping to just add a bunch of new buildings really quickly? Thx, jonpfl
  19. All, Just started playing SC4 again after many years and have a few questions : 1) How do you sell/buy water, trash and electricity? I remember business deals to do that but can't remember anymore. Also, is it worth it to sell or buy to neighbors 2) I have demand for all 3 zones but my city is full (36k pop). Should I just start rezoning to medium or high? Should I rezone my dirty industry to commercial to get rid of it? 3). If I start a new city next to my existing city, will the demand bleed over? Thx, jonpfl
  20. city planning/growth

I assume once your map is filled and there is still demand, you have one of two things you can do to continue to grow : 1) rezone low to medium or high 2) start a neighboring city Right? Thx jonpfl
  21. Some newbie questions

Open the tab with dollar sign, then open the neighbor deals tab. If one of the city can supply enough power/water to share it with the other city or has enough garbage capacity to process the garbage from the other city, then it will be possible to make the deal. However, deals can only be made with cities which is adjacent with the city that want to start the deal. I suggest you to take a look at the demand graph instead of the RCI graph because the RCI graph only tell you about the rate of demand of each kind of zone, while demand graph also show the specification. Also, don't be in hurry to make your city to grow up, you must make it become as wide as possible first, and only after that, you can start to growing up. This is the best strategy to make a village become a big city. Be patience, rezoning the tiles when the city is already big enough and matured enough to support bigger buildings will make a better result than hesitating in upgrading zones. Also make sure if the area is desirable enough for bigger buildings to grow. Well, the demand will be same with it's neighbor if the condition is same. If the condition in the new city is better, then the demand will be higher, but if the condition is worse, then it will be lower (it is related to the tax setting) 1) So I actually have to start a city to sell/buy? Simnation won't suffice? 2) For the map I am building on, all the land is filled/zoned so I assume I have to either start rezoning or start a new neighboring city, right? When I look at desirability, it is very hard to pinpoint areas, it seems it is either green or red and not much variance. 3) If I change zones from low to medium and I don't notice a change, should I start thinking about a neighboring city? 4) Is it possible to get a really big city on one map with no neighboring cities?
  22. All, I have a city started in a region (big square) and it is has around 51k population. All three things on the RCI are high and the map is full. I have rezoned things from small to medium (and a few to high). Is this the proper way to grow the city? As I said, I cannot zone anything new right now. Should I go to a neighboring region and do something to help the growth? I am trying to get a nice commercial downtown and all I have right now are residential high rises (and not very big). Should I just sit around and babysit this city or start another one next to it to create more residents? If so, should I have more then just buses and cars in the neighboring city? Should I create a passenger train? Thx jonpfl
  23. All, Can anyone tell me the requirements for upgrading your existing streets to one way streets? Whenever I try and select a one way street over an existing normal street, it is just red Thx jonpfl
  24. One way street question

  25. One way street question

Do one way streets alleviate traffic that much? Is it really worth it to make one way streets? I have a city around 30k and am having some traffic problems and have two main roads leading from my R to my I and was thinking of making each a one way street in and out of the I area Thx jonpfl
