After a few years since playing Sim City 4, I got the itch to play again. I wanted to download a few mods which I find necessary to play the game, and came to this site -- which I used to frequent. What the hell happened here? Why do all the download links point to the same shitty website where it attempts to install unwanted software (including download managers, toolbars, and PC Help utilities)? Where can I go to download the actual files I need? Anywhere else to go? Is https://www.sc4devotion.com/really the only other option? Thanks, A disgruntled user

I have been trying to access the STEX for the past few days, but it doesnt load. I have tried Firefox in Linux, and IE in Windows.

I gave up with Wine. Instead I installed Windows XP in VirtualBox, and set it up so I can log into Windows XP directly from GDM (so no WM or DE is running at the same time). I have to run it with software rendering, but it's running very well.

I figured it out, apparently the window has to be a certain width for the stex to show up.

I have installed SimCity on my Linux computer, and it was working before, but since the new update of wine, it wont detect my SimCity cd, and according to this thread https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=22&threadid=96881&highlight_key=y&keyword1=linux I need a no CD Patch for the game to run. I tried posting in that topic, but it seems to be dead, and I would like a solution. So, I tried looking for a no cd patch, but all the websites that host them look extreamly shady. So, if someone knows where I can get a good one either respond to this topic or pm me (I'm not 100% if this is against forum rules, even though I bought the game). Thanks.

Ok, I updated wine, so now I have version 1.0. Instead of the game freezing, it now crashes at that spot. It appears I need a no cd crack, but I can't find one.

OK, so I got the game working. So, I pasted my SimCity 4 folder (from My Documents) over the SimCity 4 folder in my home directory. This backup is about 1.8 GB, and contains all my cities and plugins. I'm having a couple of problems. I'm using Ubuntu 8.04 LTS and Wine 0.9.59. SimCity installed fine, but when I go to run it all I see is a black screen. I know the game is running, too, because I hear the EA GAMES and intro music, but I cant see anything. So here are my problems: 1) Cant see anything. 2) SC4 screwed up my duel screen configuration, and when I go to change it back to "big desktop' with the ATI Catalyst Control Center, and restart X, it goes back to clone screen. 3) I can't figure out how to run SimCity 4 in Windowed mode (this might fix my other problems, or at least #2). I tried putting the -w at the end of the launcher, but it doesn't work 4) This isn't really a problem, but I was in regedit, trying to manually do those entries to make sc4 go faster, but I don't have a HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine\Direct3D folder.

I have had this game for years. I originally bought it when it first came out. Lots of crashes then. Lots of crashes now. I am now using the Deluxe Edition and using plugins and custom lots. I don't think that mods and bats are to blame; the problem is just the fact that SimCity4 is very unstable. EA/Maxis did not do a good job making this game. Don't get me wrong, I love the game, but I get fed up with it everytime I play, because of the crashes and long loading times.

I have gmax installed, and found out I need to install the Bat from Maxis' site. So I did and I get this error when I try to install: Unable to copy plugin to plugin directory. Also, does anyone know where I can download textures to use on my BATs?
