  1. postponed releases

Then you have the issue of management at the big gaming companies (i.e. EA) which try to push the developers to get the game done by their scheduled release date, however unrealistic the dates may be. They have after all promised release dates to Wall Street. But in the end, they concede that the only thing worse than missing a launch date is releasing a horribly unfinished product. Delayed sales, or minuscule sales, hmmm... I think we all know what management prefers. (Look at Starcraft 2. Hopelessly delayed, but it was done right. And it ain't sellin too badly now.)

One tweak I would do: The space for the planes to pull into the gate shouldn't be so big. I suggest moving the service road close to the gates, and leaving the open space near the taxiway. (in this case the taxiway is actually an apron, technically speaking. Long story, see my discussion earlier in the thread.)

I hope that helps.

Smaller airports don't use the full on taxiway system to get airports around, and since this is a smaller airport, it works pretty well. Also, you will see the full airport when it's done, but I'm still waiting on a few things, so that may be a bit. quote> Actually, technically he is right, they are not taxiways, but part of the ramp. Almost always a taxiway will be used for connecting parts of the airfield, and there it is only for access to the gates. Also, if you do want to call it a taxiway, you need edge boundaries for the taxiways, something that is not there. Hence, Korot is right, it is still considered ramp as displayed in the image. Here is an example of a taxiway surrounded totally by concrete. Notice the dashed boundaries denoting the taxiway edges. Here is an example of ramp area. Still used for circulation, there is no dashed edge boundary for the routes. The dashed line in the middle is not a boundary, it is a secondary centerline for large aircraft that cannot fit within the boundaries of the two solid lines due to large wingspan. (see how the line connects to the actual taxiway to the south). The soft white line denotes the boundary between the ramp routes and the gate areas. By veering across the white line, one risks hitting a parked aircraft.quote> And here is an airport the the same general idea I incorporated. Here as well. quote> They are still considered "apron" or "ramp." Apron VI, to be specific for YVR's case, and Apron I for YLW's case. (see links below) While the distinction between apron and taxiway may not be as clear as the FAA in places due to lack of markings, it is still considered "apron" or "ramp" (these two terms are mostly interchangeable in aviation terminology.) YVR YLW It does appear that division markings between ramp and taxiway are not at every single changeover, so I will concede that if based upon Canadian standards, it cannot be considered necessarily incorrect if a single division marking is not present. However, they are still by and large still there. (see YYZ for another example) (the division mark at YLW is here and all around here )
  5. How do you build your cities?

I try to build cities organically, that is like how cities were built over history, gradually, and with a lot of redevelopment. While grids are much more efficient, I try and use them only in spurts and within neighborhoods, like cities actually grew. The most satisfying part for me is growing a realistic transit network that looks like something that would exist in the real world, and that usually means nonsensical meandering of roads, and complex intersections to boot.

I still havent found out how JFK uses its facility like this. quote> It's just a satellite concourse employed by American Airlines and undergoing construction in that satellite image (which is why there are no planes using it). Satellite concourses are fairly common.quote> In fact, here is a picture of the terminal completed.

Mod, no, BAT'ed lots, yes, all found in the lot exchange. (well, here, or on other sites.) Very quick overview (search terms are in quotes) Terminals and planes: " ACB VLT" Airfield: "RMIP-2" by Voltaire Planes: "josh6" has put a lot of japanese files on the STEX, mostly Airbus (Airbii, technically) "AC Team" on the SC4Devotion site has almost all the Boeings Here is one link to a file on the STEX by Josh6 that has links to some of the files above I mentioned. https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=23320 The best place to go to get an overview of most of the stuff available is actually on another site, and while I'm not sure if the mods will delete this b/c of a rivalry between them, (I haven't been active in SC4 for a while, so I don't know), here is the link: https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=3271.0 (That actuallly links back to many files on the STEX here.) A question to everyone else here: (or two) Since I've been gone from SC4 for a while, as mentioned (RLS), is there any other places for good lotted planes? I.E. I tried to replicate MSP, but not many planes were in NW or DL colors, like AC Team's A320. Do you know of other files or sites that put up variants other than josh6? Second Q: I assume that double-jettied gates like raja_indy14 created were done custom in lot editor? Or did I miss a file somewhere? Likewise for other odd-angled gates, as we all know that airports love to pack 'em in. Third and final Q: anyone seen any DEW bridges created to date? Little stubby bridges, as seen here at MSP One of my goals with my free time this summer is create a realistic airport. Now let's see if it happens!
  9. Simtropolis 1000

I love this idea. I suggest that this thread get stickied. My biggest concern: programmers. They are the lifeblood of a project, and you need enough that a core few don't get overwhelmed. I for one don't have any real talents to contribute, unfortunately.
  10. How do you feel about the SCS announcement?

I think, like many, the resounding answer to their question of whether the game will flourish will be a resounding "no." EA probably looked to find a new Sims-esque game that merged the Sims fans and SimCity fans into one game, and I don't think that they even chose the right developer to do that. EA really dug, and wasn't content for another traditional SC, and went for the blockbuster. And it did so swinging blind. Even from a financial standpoint I think they will lose. SimCity 5 would have at least brought in a predictable stream of revenue. SCS? You'll find it in those discount packaged EA/Maxis games.
  11. BLaM SimTropolis HQ

Well, you can't say that they won't get their exercise! (Unless they put in those moving sidewalks like at airports.)
  12. North American Stadiums

You may already know this, but an FYI: Dirk hasn't responded because apparently he's on some sort of unannounced 'vacation', as per the NAM-leak thread. Oh, and here's another request for the Metrodome. All it is is a roof and walls, all of which are almost the same all the way around the stadium. Oh, did I mention awesome work?
  13. Dmscopio's BAT showcase

Now we just need a team!
  14. Hows the weather where you live?

It's 102F/39C in Minneapolis, the hottest day of the summer. Heat index is 108F, 35% humidity, and I'm lovin it.
  15. Virtual Airline Exam Help!

I'll give you two freebies. LHR's ICAO code is EGLL, and ILS stands for Instrument Landing System. Interesting to note that Heathrow is EGLL, while Gatwick is EGKK and Stansted is EGSS (Luton and City aren't that simple though.) In Japan, Tokyo Narita is RJAA, Tokyo Haneda is RJTT, Osaka Itami is RJOO and Osaka Kansai is RJBB. Hong Kong is VHHH. Pretty simple coding.
  16. Virtual Airline Exam Help!

It looks like the A320 fleet of tails has been done, search "JetBlue IFDG" on avsim. For the E190, I'm sure you've found that the only decent quality model/repaint is for the Dreamwings E170. On the VA website, likely it is the same repaints modified for the virtual airline (i.e. the VA titles added,) with permission of the original author. If you really do want to fly for jetblue VA, than you could probably ask to be helped "learn the ropes." I don't know how the VA's atmosphere is, and I'm sure you could go elsewhere to another website to learn to fly (technically) well enough. However, I just checked the website, and it looks like a very good and friendly VA. Look up some jetblue VA pilots on the avsim forums, contact them and ask to learn how to fly and be a part of the VA at the same time. They will probably be more than willing to accomodate your request. The other way: (I'm surprised you didn't just search the web in the first place for the answers.) You're probably better off emailing them and talking to them about learning and joining at the same time, rather than many of the "pilots" who sign up just to get the VA benefits, then send in less-than-perfect reports, shall we say. Sorry if I'm being hard on you, but I'm kind of a stickler for honesty and not cheating your way around the system. Call me a hypocrite, lol.
  17. Virtual Airline Exam Help!

IMHO you don't need to go to this site, nor IMHO should you do it. The quiz is for you. What downloads do you want to get? There are plenty out there that I'd be willing to help you find. The main sites are AVSIM, as Red1530 posted above, or Flightsim.com (www.flightsim.com).
  18. The Wish Game

Granted, but it runs on (your) natural gas. I really wish I could get to sleep. (I'm not kidding, I haven't been able to get to sleep yet. I've been in my bed and everything.)
  19. The Wish Game

Granted, but everyone leaves Simtropolis. I wish I could get to sleep.
  20. The Aviation Trivia Game

Ahh! I just found this thread! I'm going to guess Catch Me If You Can.
  21. Looks amazing! I already have plans for what I'm going to do: complex intersections!
  22. North American Stadiums

To get it exactly right, yes. It has some very akward curves because of the crossing pattern, as can be seen the the center-left in the photo. I would think that a guess of how the roof would look would do just fine, and only me or other people that are often around the building would notice the minute details. But it's a dump anyways, and we're getting a new stadium in 2010. Yay!!!! But I dunno, I'm not a BATter.
  23. North American Stadiums

I have noticed all the stadium requests in this thread (including mine,) and they indicate a high pent up demand for American stadiums. Likely cause is the complexity and daunting task of a whole stadium, discouraging people from BATing them. I think a stage 8 stadium high rise will be appearing soon.
  24. hkabat-forum-threads Shenzhen/Asian BATs

I must admit, even though the government in China tends to restrict businesses outside of the zones, by the same token they're able to get so many great buildings built that we couldn't build over here in th U.S. because of resistance and cost. Even they want a building in a certain spot, there isn't much stopping them save themselves. IMO this is a very elegant building, combining multiple styles in one building in a way that each is featured very well. BTW great building! You've done a great job with it, and I'm sure I'll be seeing it in my cities soon!
  25. One week! One week and counting! Next person: Me: jk, everyone knows how release dates work...
