Here's a little something I came up with... -
Wow, awesome! I have a quick question... What did you use to produce the walls at the entrances to your tunnels, such as the tunnel under the tower? I had been using the CDK, but your tunnels look better than mine.

Date: 10/30/2004 12:43:06 AM Author: Dr. Neitchskrimfrauwnmoya RoddyC : I like your water tunnels a lot. But you should make the slope of your avenue that go down into the tunnel more gradual because it will look a lot better. It's easy to do this when you use the Tunnel and Slope Mod by Big Red Fish.quote> Where can I find that mod? I've searched my ass off and I don't see it anywhere. And yeah, those buses are available on the STEX. I've got lots of them. It's cool that you can have such a variety of different buses without overwriting the original. -
Date: 10/29/2004 9:25:03 AM Author: BlackBeard Here is my stupid question of the day:Why can't tunnels be a option like a bridge?. You drag a road across the water and a message pops up asking you'Would you like to build a tunnel?' quote> I'd say because river tunnels aren't supported. It's more of an exploit than anything. One of the reasons for this is that tunnels can only go perfectly straight. The path of a tunnel is considered to be the direct line between the entrance and the exit. Even once you drop the tunnel underwater, you're still left with a straight path through the water, rather than a path which bends under the bottom of the river. As a result, the vehicles are travelling through the water, and it takes some modification to hide this fact. Maybe underwater tunnels will be supported in SC5.

I just constructed another one. It also has the weird bug, but it still looks sweet.

The avenue Y-interchange is part of the Network Add-on Mod. You just have to click the highway interchange button, then press the tab key a couple of times. It's a pretty cool feature. Here it is in one of my cities... -
A quick tunnel update... Everything's looking pretty sweet now. I still have the vehicle prop issue, but I can live with that. If anyone else attempts underwater tunnels, let me know how it works out.
-
Okay, breakthrough. For the sake of anyone else who wants to try this... I've eliminated the visible traffic problem, for the most part. By editing automata variables in DatGen, I slowed the speed of traffic at the fastest game speed, so now vehicles disappear when they enter the tunnel. There's just one issue remaining, and here it is... That's the rider of a motorcycle... just the rider. Basically all vehicle props remain visible as a vehicle passes through the tunnel. This includes motorcycle riders, truck cargo, etc etc. Does anyone have any ideas? I tried making the tunnel lower, but the entrances are on the verge of water level - they won't go any lower. Hmmm...
-
Hmmm, I discovered that the zoom level isn't the issue (well it seemed logical at the time), but the game speed is in fact to blame. When the game is at the fastest setting, the cars enter the tunnel and remain visible for long enough to be seen underwater, before fading out. When the game is at the normal speed, the cars vanish into the tunnel before they reach the water line, so they can't be seen. *Ponders*
-
Here's the whole tunnel, for anyone who is interested. Oddly, the cars in the tunnel don't show up when I zoom out. *Scratches head*

All you have to do is build a bridge of land from one side to the other. Then you simply build a tunnel through the land, and use the terrain lowering tool to lower the land until it becomes fully submersed. Then you're left with two tunnel entrances and an underwater tunnel. No mods involved. As you can see though, this leaves the vehicles visible when they travel through the tunnel. Any ideas?
-
What takes patience and practice? Now I'm just lost.
-
Oh, you should see the river at rush hour.

Here's a major marine accident...

I apologise if someone has pointed this out before, but I've noticed a minor issue with the paths for the avenue Y-interchange. Observe... As you can see, people still get to their destination so it's not a functionality issue - it's just a visual thing. The biggest annoyance is that automata vehicles will magically jump from one ramp to another. Also it seems that automata are incapable of travelling on the right-to-left path seen in the screenshot. Sims are still able to use this route, but automata will always disappear as they go under the overpass. Nonetheless it still looks great and functions as it should.

Date: 10/22/2004 2:33:44 AM Author: sfobb How did you get the one way roads to join up with the avenue?quote> Just a simple click-and-drag. There are no mods required as far as I know. I do use the NAM, but I'm certain you can do this without mods. I also use the no-arrows mod for looks. -

I posted this in another thread, but it probably belongs here. -
Date:9/22/2004 11:37:08 PM Author:sargeantcm Didn't get any work done on the trumpet today, I decided to jump into something new instead - the other 'bread and butter' base interchange I plan on creating - a directional-Y: quote> I just wanna say that interchange looks awesome. Has any progress been made with this?

No Boats or Transport Ships after RH Install.

Got any mods installed from before you got RH? If you do, you might wanna remove them. Mods do weird things with RH. -
