UPDATE 1.0 Welcome back to Bellaire "The best place to live". In this update I feature some updates to the cities transportaion network. As the Board of Directors chooses a Director to head the Department of Road & Bridge. The Board chose 43 yo Civil Architect Ron Peters to head the new department. Ron was quoted in the Bellaire Chronicle saying "I am excited at the opportunity and challenges we face here in Bellaire". Peters first day was on Friday, Peters agreed to a 5-year $145,750.00 dollar (per year) contract with Bellaire officials. Peters first order of business was to choose a contractor to oversee the DORB intial contruction of the cities starting roads & bridges. Peters along with the Board decided on Atlanta based Hermes Construction. They will begin work asap. Hermes began work on US59 & Interstate 20 connections here in Bellaire. Hermes also began construction on the Marcus Garvey Memorial Toll Bridge that carries motorist over Cole Creek for a $2 fee per axle. The toll bridge will be managed by Harris County Toll Road Authority which is the county that Bellaire lies in. Marcus Garvey Bridge Construction Hermes also started some of the surface street construction. Above is one of the may streets in Bellaire. Rev. Hayward Wiggins Blvd. This street will go across town through the future planned Downtown area. Below is a picture of Hayward Wiggins being constructed as it crosses Main Street. The board meet again again today with Harris County officials today in Houston. This meeting was to decide who would be the official energy provider for the city. Harris County officials were very critical of the Bellaire teams assertion that Harris County was to laxed in it's help of the budding city. Harris County responded by assigning a liasion to work with Belliare on any future matters. After a 6 hour closed session Bellaire & Harris County officials chose Reliance Energy to be the official energy provider for Bellaire. Reliance began immediate construction of a power facility in Bellaire. Below is Reliance's logo as well as Harris County. Next update...the city begis construction of Police & Fire protection facilities.

  7. This as you all know is my first CJ. I have read many and appreciated all of the work you all do on your CJ. I have finally decided I needed to contribute to the forum I have appreciated and needed for so many years. Welcome to the City of Bellaire, TX. Founded 10/07/2000 In the beginning... After visiting Houston, Texas for a national designers retreat famed designer Kenneth Cole discovered a parcel of land for sale. Wondering what a great task it would be to conquer he set out to found his own city. He inquired who the parcel of land was owned by and purchased it from Texas Equity Partners, LP for $100 million dollars. The land itself was beautiful and included a cavernous creek that was later named Cole Creek. The plan for governing: The land sat empty for some 2-3 years while Cole amassed his plans & ideas for the area. He then named a Board of Directors to be placed in charge of naming the city and to serve as it's interim goverment once it was created. It was agreed upon that the city would then elect it's own goverment once it reached 1,000 residents. The Board of Directors are pictured below: Naming & Financing: In a 9-1 decision the Board chose to name the city "Bellaire". The one no vote came from Board Member Fred Camden who wanted to name the city Camden...go figure! The City of Bellaire then sought funding from private investors. The city sought and received investments from Kenneth Cole of course & Nauls Captital Investments in the sum of $1 billion dollars respectively to total $2 billion dollars. To be used to establish a elected goverment, utilitiy installation and to begin the transportation network. With other money set aside to begin planning police & fire protection for the city that was to come. Additional monies were set aside to to run the city until a substantial tax base could be created. The board also voted and agreed on this new logo for Bellaire. Next update...the city begins to build roads & bridges! Is there something to this city now called Bellaire? Stay tuned trust me...the plot only thickens!
