Show us your most unique and creative transportation network!

that poorman's cloverleaf is actually good if you want to put a toll booth on the freeway inbetween the two intersection freeways to toll only those who switch freeways -
sorry, i know that was really off topic, but i have friends in sparks who absolutely hate being called reno's suburb. Forgive my ranting.

Date: 5/27/2004 8:15:16 PM Author: Fairlane500 Fresno sounds like a good idea, another would be Reno, Nevada. Reno has a skyline of multiple tall casinos (chance for mod buildings?), does not take up much area (approx. 200,000 people), and only one real suburb (Sparks), with a few outlying small towns. Could be a beggining project. -Fairlanequote> First off, Sparks would not be considered a suburb, Sparks is considered it's own town. Telling a resident of Sparks they are a suburb is insulting. The real suburbs are the North Valleys, Spanish Springs, and Pleasant/Washoe Valley. The outlying towns are not that small. Carson, the state capital, has over 50,000 people with several of its own suburbs. But I still agree Reno would be a good town to model. With the exception of Carson city (30 miles) and Fernly (25 or so miles) everything is pretty close. Making up for Carson would be dificult though, i think i heard that 30000 people commute between Carson and Reno. Not to mention almost every transit option used in the city is available in rush hour. Granted the freeway terminuses would be a little difficult to put in the game.

Hey, all very cool, as soon as I get my own computer working again I'll add some of my own. I have a city where there are absolutly no intersections where one direction of traffic has to cross another direction of traffic. -

Screenshots of what freeways in Simcity 5 should look like!
mjgawthrop replied to simcityperron's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Let's clear things up through a drivers point of view. Single point intersections good. Those are the best thing Reno ever put in they almost make up for the horrid spaggetti bowl. Almost everyone I know in Reno will agree that anytime you can avoid a second intersection it is good. Nothing is more annoying than sitting at a GREEN light and not be able to move because the light 100 feet ahead is red. I'll have to get my camera out and upload pictures of some of the horrid interchanges in Reno. Currently the NDOT and RTC is busy w/ their freeway overhaul. It should be interesting to see how it turns out, they're adding something like 2 new on/off ramps north of the 395/80 interchange and will completlety rebuild the interchange (And it will piss off everyone who wants to get on 80 at 4th street going west and transfer onto 395, it won't be possible anymore. haha stupid people in Sparks don't matter anyway apparently.) Who else here thinks there should be sunken freeways in SC. BTW how thinks their freeway has the worst designed interchange. Reno has at least three that should be torn down and rebuilt, a picture wouldn't show it so I'll just describe it. There are three places were the exit is a roundabout (not like the british roundabout, simply a circle road that connects one direction of freeway to one direction of roadway not sure if that explained it) But whether or not I explained it well I don't need to. The road banks out of the curve, yes the curve goes right and the road is banked left. Why, they wanted it to have adiquate drainage for the three times a year that it rains enough for long enough for water to accumulate on the roads. We also have a merge lane (make that two of them in a row) that are used both by people accelerating to merge onto the freeway and people decelerating to exit. No big deal, except that these lanes are only about 150 feet long, there is always at least one accident from someone speeding up to get on the freeway hitting someone slowing down to get off (yes I was one of them and if you meet the engineer that designed that interchange kindly kill him for me). I challenge y'all to find worse designed freeways. -
wait, are you talking about they California. The one with 12lane freeways and where six or more lane avenues aren't uncommon. I speak mainly of the San Fransisco and L.A. freeways and the suburban areas of Northern California. I don't think it's right to say that Maxis made eeverything smaller because things are smaller in California. I think Maxis just didn't have time or money to make the roads more accurate (they probably based SC4's roads off of SC3000's roads to some extent).
