As of today - everything has changed. The region was hit by the worst cascade of earthquakes remembered by the settlers and the history archives. First two volcanoes appeared out of the blue and what followed, can just be described as utterly destruction for the oldest settlements and neighbouring cities and small local towns... Fjord of Hope - before Day X: Fjord of Hope - after Day X: The appearing volcanoes, the cascades of earthquakes and thousands of the resulting fires ment, that the mayor part of...

After the terrible Day X destroyed the old cities and settlements - the last remaining city is going through a time of growth. The government has reconsidered the design of future cities and implemented the idea of low density and areal growth instead of growing the cities into the skies. It's done do prevent huge numbers of deaths in the futures, if or when such a devastating earthquakes will happen again. The old townhall and the shops of the old commercial area outside the cityc where relocated into the...

It has been a long time ago, last time I posted news about the Region "Fjord of Hope". But that doesn't mean that the region is dead or vanished... The cities and their populations grew over the last 1½ years of real time - alot has happened and their has been many changes... In the comening days and weeks I want to post some updates about the region and will try to describe my new design ideas for the future development of the cities. The plan is to make the cities look and function even more realistic!...

To get an overview, see the picture below: At the east side of the channel, things are still going slow, as the main growth of the city is concentrated to the south and west. The goverment has tried to built a mini commercial area on the east side and cheap residential blocks. But people are - especially the young - still fleeing to the west side. Big areas of the local community is laying in waste and just the crows wish to stay... The old parts of the city are growing rapidly. Both Old Town and West Town...

Simcity has always fascinated me, because it gives me the power to copy the real world and make experiments with that copy ingame. I don't mean copy be copying every house and street, but by applying real world guidelines in the areas of urban planning and infrastructure. Therefore I will try to implement guidelines, how and where on my maps I will be allowed to build cities. For this I will take some real life examples from my home (Denmark - DK) and try to derive the guidelines from them. Aften looking...

The Channel - the first and oldest settlement in the region The first sign of the pending catastrophy: a volcano appeared where the International Airport once was: The volcano sparked fires in the area: What followed was a long cascade of eathquakes hitting the city. The resultat of this event was pure destruction... The Old Town: The Industrial Center: The Commercial Centers - East and West: The important Electricity Procution Area was one of the first areas to be hit: Even the residential areas weren't...

The Region "Fjord of Hope" have I created by modifying the existing map "Canyonlands". I used SC4 Terraformer to import the landscape and lower the entire map by 150 points. The reason for that is, that the map after my opinion is one of the greatest maps arround, but lacks water surface. So instead of being a canyon landscape, I thought the landscape would be much better as a big fjord with narrow water ways and vast bays. And I think that the mission is accomblished. Below you can see some pictures,...

As "The Channel" grows, more people seek to settle on the west side of the mountain on the edge of the city. A new city is born and is called "Channel Beach Bay". Before - people just called the area south of the mountain as the beach, where people could swin in natural surroundings. But the future of that beach is uncertain, as the government has planed to expand the industrial area here - because of the flat areas and cheap land prizes. The most notable feature of the area is the bay, where in future...

The first city of the region in simply called "The Channel" as it sits right at the channel between to bays of the fjord. Below you see the oldest part of the city, which streets and zones are quite chaotic planned. It had to go fast and no one was really planning. One of newest addition in this part of the city is a ferry port, which connects to the other side of the channel (the east side). The next picture shows the east side of the channel. There is not much at the moment. Mostly just residential zones...

As the industial area of The Channel grew, people were arguing that if the beach not could be rescued, a little peninsula south of the now industrial dominated beach could be be rescued instead. Planning was underway and there was built a little suburb, surrounded by industrial areas to the north and east, but separeted by a green belt and the bay's water from the dirty industry. The suburb is like a little green island with nature and breathable air. As said the original beach could not be rescued from...

As The Channel grows, people are seeking further south to build a new city at the place, where the channel area ends and the archipelago begins. The city is named after the area - Channel Archipelago. The area is dominated with peninsulas, points and large water areas with low depths. See the picture below: The first city in the area is still considered as a suburb to The Channel, and gets it's energy from there and sends it's garbage to it. The city is only self-supplied with water. Most people from this...
