I wonder if we were ready for this. We, all 300 of us, were brave enough to risk our own lives and even those of our young children to test experimental technology that has allowed us to travel the stars and contact another people.

This is the question that has ran through my mind each night as I lay my head down to sleep. I think we were as ready as we could, or as I could, have hoped for us to be. We were able to program our on-board computerized human response system (CHRiS) to communicate with the orb in our shared ancient language. We fed questions into CHRiS, but the orb didn't respond. We asked questions regarding what happened to the orb's people, the devastation found in the Alnitak, Alnilam and Mintaka systems, and about our own history. We were never given a response. The orb only kept repeating, "to 'Naaswa' we must go." I sai

We are still in a stationary orbit some 13,000 miles outside Mintaka 5, planning our next step in this journey, as will soon make more sense to you.

I left off writing yesterday where I was telling you of our first encounter with another people from the cosmos. We were brought into the presence of an exotic looking woman, who allowed us to photograph her, although I am unsure if she knew exactly what our device was doing when we aimed it at her. No Mintakans, however, desired to photograph us. Maybe they already had, and we were just unaware of it. But I get this sense that they don't need a tangible memory of us to hold in their hands or hang on their walls...I feel as if they have always had a memory of us...hidden away in some type of global unconsciousness for an eternity.

The woman spoke to us, but we could not understand her. But she appeared calm and gracious in her words and gestures...it appears that emotional expression is universal. Perhaps that was by design... a default form of communication to converse across the stars...at least for those who look like us. We were soon taken to what seemed to be a large meeting area, with a giant holographic globe of this planet. She pointed at a marked spot quite a distance away from our present location at that time. She took our pyramid photograph, and placed it upon this spot on the globe. She looked at us and nodded in positive affirmation of what was signified by this location on the planet. Something of vast importance.

mintakacontactpart3.png

After what seemed like a few hours later, we boarded another air transport, and were escorted across the rainy and dim landscape to another monument structure. We landed, and were taken a good walking distance into the desert to the site of what appeared to be an abandoned archaeological dig. Part of the dig had uncovered another underground facility, where to my excitement, we were taken into.

90506-004-4DB1E1ED.jpg

The interior had long been weathered and rusted...forgotten. There appeared to be no remnants of any past peoples, much like the other worlds we have encountered these past years. Yet, to my surpise, we were taken to the back corner of a room where sat some kind of glowing technological orb.

scifiinterior1.jpg

The woman picked up the glowing orb, and handed it to me. It had some form of writing engraved around it. I knew this was something meant for us. Something somehow meant for us. She looked at us, spread out her long arms, and motioned for us to return to the sky.

f55544c16584.jpg

We have since returned to the Hubble, and we leave this world with the experience of the highest peak of human discovery. But, this is just the beginning. The orb we were given began communicating on its own last night. We heard it echoing down the cold steel corridors connecting B-SEC to A14. It was glowing intensely, and words were audibly coming from it. It spoke in ancient Egyptian. Then it repeated itself in ancient Hebrew. It is still continuing this cycle. According to our archaeological science team, it is saying: "I am the property of the one you call Enoch. To 'Naaswa' we must go. I will show you the way. I am your history, and your present. I am your future."

EARTH DATE: FEBRUARY 11, 2084

MISSION DATE: DAY 3744

We have made contact. Finally. What I am about to tell of will be told for generations to come. I write back aboard the ship, after three days of interacting with an alien people on their own homeworld.

Four days ago, we reached and entered orbit around Mintaka 5, a giant super-earth with a cloudy, dark and brooding atmosphere. When Cmdr. Brea and the HEX 4 broke through the thick rain-filled clouds, we stumbled upon a remnant and forgotten people. Our radio signals two years ago were right, this world had faint echoes of a weakening broadcast. I knew what we must do next. It was our duty to meet these people...to greet these brethren, no matter what form they may be in.

We traveled to the surface, where we landed at city comprised of exotic architecture...architecture that rivals anything our own Dubai has built in the last century. We descended onto a large, stepped platform, where alien people stood watching us come down from the sky. Would they think we were their gods? Were we doing to them what I strongly believe they did to our own ancestors many millenia ago? Regardless, we would not seek to enslave nor manipulate them. We would not seek to construct any architectural symbols of our own society. We would simply learn.

They look like us. There they stood, upright on two legs, looking at us in perplexity and fear. They were sweating profusely, as were we. The surface temperature that day was nearing 120, and the humidity was intense. Surely, hopefully, these people spend most of their time indoors or underground.

For time's sake, I will be brief in my desrciptions. Near minute-by-minute details of our experience are in the process of being recorded as a collective group experience by myself and those who traveled to the surface with me. We were greeted in a peaceable manner by what appeared to be Mintakans in authority positions. As a first attempt of communication, we showed them a picture of our Great Pyramids of Giza and Pluto, as we had intended to do when we began this long and arduous sojourn twelve years ago. The Mintakan who took the picture from my hand looked down at it, and then clutched it intimately in his hand. They motioned for us to follow them. Somewhere, in the midst of our excitement and our attempt to focus on our mission and be aware of these people and their intentions, we found ourselves boarding a run-down air transport and flying into the Mintakan night across the dimly lit landscape toward a giant arch structure.

mintakacontactpart2b.png

After what seemed to be an hour of flight, we landed at the structure, to the greetings of another small crowd. We were quickly taken underground into the interior of the structure, where we walked down a long and immersive corridor of technological fascination. Then, at the end of the corridor, we were brought into the presence of an exotic looking woman who appeared to be of great power and authority.

I will continue writing tomorrow. I must rest for now, and things aboard the ship require my attention.

We arrived at this world with celebration, yet we can no longer express such sentiment. Three days ago, as we celebrated January 1 Earth time aboard the ship, we reached orbit and touched down on a barren and rocky world. What we found replaced our thoughts of a new year with ones of what could be an infinity ago.

mintakaprison5.png

This world, to our best deduction, is a prison. We have spent the last three days exploring and searching bizarre structures of depressing color, echoing the atmosphere outside the cold, coal walls. We have stood inside what appear to be prison cells, void of hope or sunlight. For the first time, a structure we have entered was not empty and void of remain. We found one bone, in one of the cells. The bone was long and thick, much like our own femur. It had a light blue/green tint, of which my astrobiological medicine team tells me may not be the bone's true color. We are currently waiting for a report from HEX Cmdr. Uszad which we will use to determine if there are any more structures or features of interest on this world. If not, we will return to the Hubble where our best minds will scan the bone, compare its DNA to our own, and learn everything we possibly can about these people who once served punishment by being taken away into the isolation of Space. Will we one day turn our own moon into a world for the wretches of society.

I have never seen such destruction. Maybe it seems much worse, much larger, more epic because of the alien moonlight that lit our first view of this massive world. But everything here is larger. The star Alnilam is so much larger and brighter than our Sun that it causes life to be much greater in size. The average tree here is no shorter than 100'. Giant trees of green and purple.

alncl5.jpg

This world, much like our own, is its own universe. We have spent the last week exploring and searching for more answers. I cannot get the image of the giant obelisk city out of my mind. The narrow grid of alien streets connecting the network of obelisk architecture, scorched black and stained with blood. The eerie pyramid that mirrors our own at Teotihuacán, and the towering central obelisk, worn and broken. When I looked upward at the shattered top of the obelisk, I feared I was foreseeing the future of our own Washington.

View of "Pyramid of Alnilam" from Central Obelisk grounds, Obelisk City

alnilam.jpg

Like the worlds we have already witnessed, there is no one to be found anywhere. Yet, even amidst the decay, we have still glimpsed the wondrous beauty of this place. We found an untouched residence overlooking a sea...a survivor of what happened here. Perhaps this is too much to share, but I longed for a woman to be beside me, looking out into that vast alien ocean. I can still recall the black and white movies from the 1940s I saw in the museums as a kid...the leading man and his lady, standing on the deck of the ship, looking out into the moonlit waves.

Alnilam rises over Alnilam 4

alncl6.jpg

We encountered more bones than we did life, and have brought some truly exotic looking creatures back on board. We also found conceptual renderings of pyramid and obelisk development. The sky in the renderings were deep blue, not the blue-green sky that envelops this world. Perhaps these are the renderings of something once planned for Earth, or another world similar to ours. Yet the greatest thing of all is what appears to be an aerial photo of our own world, taken when these visitors came and built these structures. Words cannot begin to describe.

CAPTAIN'S LOG

NUMBER: 00308

LOCATION: MILKY WAY - ALNITAK - ALNITAK 2-NS6, 2784 MI. OUTSIDE ORBIT

EARTH DATE: SEPTEMBER 13, 2080

MISSION DATE: DAY 2883

440fd816.jpg

Three years ago, we left Alnitak 5-NS4 and started a long and tedious trek through the system for 3-NS1 and 2-NS6. We believed 3-NS1 had an unknown surface composition that we wanted to study further, and that 2-NS6 might prove suitable for life as we know it. We were right about both. 3-NS1 had a giant crystallized surface, whose chemical composition was unlike anything found on Earth. We managed to collect a sample of what we now call "Alnitice."

alienworlds3081.jpg

We have spent the last six or seven days exploring, on foot and without breathing masks or protective gear, the alien world known as Alnitak 2-NS6. We have walked the plazas and trails of an intelligence long before us. We have entered its structures and studied its architecture. And as we did on 5-NS4, we have studied the animals of whom this intelligence once shared a world with, and have brought a few back on board. I hope they will get along well with Noah and Eve.

51069111.jpg

Our first expedition was going inside a structure that this world, Pluto, and our beloved home share in common. The interior of the giant pyramid mirrored those on Earth. Truly, we are witnessing our own history.

alienworlds3082.jpg

There were no hieroglyphs inside. There were no mummies. No tombs, no jewels, nothing. There is nothing to be found in the rest of the city as well. No bones, no corpses. No clothing, no art, no language, no documents, no furniture, no food, no vehicles, no weapons. But there were weapons, once.

alienworlds308.jpg

As we approached, from the air, the city we call the "City of Pyramids," we saw burnt corpses of buildings, and red stains on the windows of what we now believe to be residences. Part of the city is underground. No one is left hiding or surviving above or below. Only permanent stains of a people we have some form of a shared history with. There is also something else we share..the color of our blood.

The ancient pyramid on this world aligns with Alnilam, which was already our next planned system. Although without a computer one would never know, because the atmosphere is so thick on this world that you cannot see the stars at night. If there were any native intelligent species in the past, they would never have known anything else existed outside their world. I wonder what that would be like.

- Capt. Drake S. Eastman, U.S.S. Hubble

-P.S. We just celebrated the birthday of Jake Richmond by taking him down to the surface. If you remember back to my first log, I mentioned seeing children playing up and down the corridors. He was one of these children. When I first saw him he was eight. He is now a healthy and strong sixteen year old.

CAPTAIN'S LOG

NUMBER: 00195

LOCATION: MILKY WAY - ALNITAK - ALNITAK 5-NS4, SURFACE LOCATION: "ISLA PRIMA"

EARTH DATE: NOVEMBER 28, 2077

MISSION DATE: DAY 1863

alnitak5ns42.jpg

Greetings from the surface of another world. I am sitting in a coarse, yet fine yellow sand. My eyes stare out into a vast, green ocean. I am breathing the air of another world; it tastes bitter. Sweat drips down my face from the sweltering heat. The murky green sky maroons me in my own mind. I must stop being poetic and write like a captain.

"Noah"

alnitak1.jpg

Three earth days ago we exited the wormhole in a sudden, forceful jolt of temporary anti-gravity. Whether fate or something else, we exited inside the boundaries of the Alnitak system, close to a Saturn-like gas giant (now known as Alnitak 5, with the number 5 designating the planet as being the 5th from the star). Alnitak 5 has 22 moons, with the inner six being large bodies. In what I can only describe as a tense and overwhelming moment in time, our equipment detected that the fourth moon of Alnitak 5 possibly contained liquid water and a breathable atmosphere. We quickly dispatched a HEX.

alnitak2.jpg

After three hours of flying over the surface, Cmdr. Tilwor Ziaeg and his HEX 2 sent back images of a very Earth-like world. One image was of a giant mesa protruding out of a large, green ocean. On top of the mesa were four black and yellow towers of unknown purpose and origin. We caught our first glimpse of alien life as giant birds were seen flying around and nesting in these towers. We have no reason to believe these towers are of natural origin. Further pictures confirmed a large presence of these around the moon.

Our sensors detected faint radio waves emitting from the towers, and we now believe they are communication antennas. Perhaps this moon served as a communications outpost for an intelligence not native to this moon, and no longer in this system. We have yet to detect any signs of a present or past native intelligence. However that does not mean one does not exist. Perhaps it just hasn't built anything visible from the air.

"Eve"

alnitakeve.jpg

While other possible worlds in this system that might harbor life are being determined back in orbit on the ship, myself and our astrobiology team have taken a HEX down to the surface to do some close-up investigation of the life on this world. We have a zoological wing of the Hubble in which we hope to house certain creatures or food specimens from other worlds that we feel can be sustained on the ship. Welcome aboard the Ark.

"Isla Prima"

alnitak5ns41.jpg

We touched down, where we are currently, on an island we now call "Isla Prima," or "Cousin Island" for its similarity to Earth islands. We have already seen several creatures and are planning on taking a few of them on board. One in particular is a female creature with human-like features, but is the size of a domestic cat. The creature did not appear fearful of us as did some of the others; perhaps it is more alien to us than we are to it. I have just received word that there are two more worlds in this system of interest. One has an unknown surface composition and the other appears to be habitable. Perhaps "Eve" can lend us some more insight.

Not much has been made or said of Pluto since it was demoted from a planet to a dwarf planet seventy years ago. NASA's New Horizons mission, launched in 2006, was scheduled to reach Pluto in 2015 but collided with an unknown debris field outside the orbit of Uranus on March 19, 2011 and was never heard from again since. We reached the Plutonian system five days ago, amidst excitement from everyone aboard the ship. We went HEX the next day. No one will ever forget the words of pilot Cdr. Jase Kizka broadcast in the command center two hours into his flight - "Sir, you're never going to believe this."

I expected I would believe it. When you travel in space for over 1500 days and go farther than any man has before, you tend to think that you have reached the climax of mystery, and discovery. We expected Cdr. Kizka to transmit back images of surface channels that would appear to have been carved by water. Instead, a high-resolution image of a giant pyramid slowly decoded on the screen. It looked just like the Great Pyramid of Giza on Earth, only a murky black, grey and yellow one.

Great Pyramid of Giza

07le-caire.jpg

Then came the results of the HEX's on board PSDS (Planetary Surface Dimensioning System). Our archaeological science team confirmed what by this time we already suspected - that the dimensions of the Plutonian pyramid and the Great Pyramid of Giza were the same. Even the pyramid's capstone was missing as it is on Earth. Then one of the arch. science team members suddenly shouted in a tone of amazement and fear, "The Orion Correlation Theory...my God..."

I had heard before of something called the Orion Correlation Theory. It is, or was, a suppressed theory that the Pyramids of Giza (Khufu [Great Pyramid], Khafre, and Menkaure) geographically mirror the astronomical alignment of three stars in the Orion constellation known as Orion's Belt (Alnitak, Alnilam, and Mintaka). According to this theory, the Great Pyramid of Giza is then representative of Alnitak.

Pyramids of Giza and Orion's Belt

Orion_-_pyramids.jpg

After some time it was calculated by our arch. science team that the Plutonian pyramid is at the same coordinates on the surface as Alnitak is in the Plutonian sky. We have now received a transmission back from Houston, and our orders are to avert from Alpha Centauri in favor of Orion's Belt. Regardless of our new destination, we will be traveling for the first time through a wormhole oustide of NASA simulations. Alnitak is 800 light years away, and the wormhole (we hope) will cut the distance down to what we currently estimate to be roughly half a light year. If this is in fact true, it will take us approximately 179 earth days to reach the Alnitak system as we will be able to travel at the speed of light inside the wormhole. We will return to our original plan of visiting the Alpha Centauri system someday. But who knows when? Who knows where this new course will take us. What will we find? What will we learn? Where will it lead? Once we enter the wormhole we will be permanently cut off from communications with Earth. We will remain cut off once we exit the wormhole as Orion's Belt is too distant. My crew and I would be dead centuries before a transmission we sent ever reached home, if our brothers and sisters even remember we existed. Mankind's mark on space is soon to be left solely in our hands and in my better judgment. May God guide me.

We will use the next 179 days to further develop a communication plan with any possible alien intelligence, and to prepare a defense plan should we encounter any hostile threats. Alnitak is 10,000 times brighter than our Sun, so we will use the time to also determine the effects this could have on our eyesight and our skin, and also any susceptible technologies on board the ship. But, for all we know, Alnitak may no longer exist. When I turn away from my desk and look out the window behind me, I see it. But I am looking 800 years into the past.

Orion's Belt (from left to right: Alnitak, Alnilam, Mintaka)

orionbeltfullview.jpg

We now have every reason to believe that the Orion Correlation Theory is true, and that perhaps the designers of the pyramids on Earth, and Pluto, came from Orion's Belt. If we encounter any intelligent species, we will show them a picture of the Great Pyramid of Giza, in hopes that it will be recognized and will communicate a peaceful intent. While some would be nervous about what we are soon to witness, knowing that there is a risk that you, your ship and her crew might not make it out alive; I am calm. To be so far away from Earth and cut off from everything you have ever known, I remain confident. And if I should die at the hands of some alien intelligence, then I'll die knowing I truly lived.

This is my first entry in what will be no doubt a multitude of excitement and fear. I am Drake S. Eastman of the United States Navy - Space Division, captain of the U.S.S. Hubble, patriot of the United States of America, and welcomer of all peoples as we embark on mankind's greatest expedition. Our mission: to make known the unknown.

U.S.S. Hubble

1671644-xs.jpg

We have just begun our journey, and are roughly 10,000 miles outside Earth's orbit, en route to the Moon. From the Moon we will visit Mars, then catch Venus as it transitions to that side of the Sun's orbit, then we will make way for the outer reaches of the solar system - visiting Titan and Triton as we make Pluto our final destination before we set course for Alpha Centauri (our neighbor and nearest system). The Hubble is equipped with an experimental wormhole drive, making traveling extreme distances through space possible. However, the distance between worlds in our own system is too small for us to generate a wormhole, so we must travel at the ship's cruising speed of 27,420 mph. Our discovery efforts will be primarily conducted by near-surface flyovers of alien worlds. These flyovers will be conducted by skilled astronauts piloting one of the five Hubble Exploration Shuttles on board the ship. Each HEX is able to withstand a large variety of temperatures and weather conditions throughout space. Our first real-world test of the HEX outside of Earth-based simulations will be the Moon. Seeing the American flag planted firmly in the lunar soil will be a fitting overture to this great journey.

Hubble Exploration Shuttle ("HEX")

hexlv.jpg

It will take us approximately five years to reach Pluto. We have on board a stellar crew of capable men and women from various nations and professions. Most were selected based on their age and reproductive health, in the event that colonization becomes required for our survival, whether on board the ship or elsewhere. However I have seen a variety of ages the few times I have already strolled down the cold metal corridors. I have even passed a few children, of which brings even further symbolism, triumph, and even spirituality to this endeavor. Yet I am afraid I will find myself more of a governor than a captain. Godspeed.

-Capt. Drake S. Eastman, U.S.S. Hubble
