The Mountainview (Almost) Space Program
After seeing the last Challenger mission taking off...
Mountainview Region considered to put up its own space program. It quickly became evident that the tremendous costs cannot be shouldered by such a small region... and the residents were not all that happy with the presence of all those military types, the tight security checkpoints all over the place and the influx of shady characters, as well as the wholesale damage to nature...
So this program had to be cancelled even before the first scheduled takeoff...
Though the Russians keep up their space program by catering to billionaires - offering private space trips for millions of dollars...
