Upminster - Abbey-Upon-Tyne International Airport
"Upminster" was always of less importance when it came to population and or trade. In actual fact, it is only a cloister and a church - the two sights of this little part of "Tyneside". Located in the south of "Abbey-Upon-Tyne" and blessed with lots of fertile gorund, "Upminster" was never really anything else than a place to take your family to on a weekend.
Since the old "Tyneside International Airport" was too small to cope with the number of commuters, a location for the new proposed airport was needed. The choice fell on "Upminster" for variouse reasons. One was that it was just a 25 - 30 minute ride from "Abbey-Upon-Tyne". It is also very well connected to the South since the M24 and a major railway line runs right through this part of "Tyneside".
The only problem was the layout of the Airport since many farmers didn't want to give up their grounds. The city council needed to pay a lot to these farmers to buy parts of their land.
The "Abbey-Upon-Tyne International Airport" was only opend to the public last year.
Let's have a look then.

The new Airport. Terminal 1 (National & Some International flights - Hub for other Companys) is at the left and Terminal 2 (National & International Flights/Lufthansa - Star Alliance & British Airways Hub) at the right. Due to the layout of the airport, 2 towers are needed to coordinate the airport.

A shot of the 2 Terminals at night. In the front of each terminal are small parks and plazas to aerate the structure of the Airport.

A rare view, to planes approaching "Abbey-Upon-Tyne International" at the same time.

The fuel depot at night.

Just a view of the Cloister in Upminster.

A regional view of Upminster. (Hmm...maybe the fuel depot is a bit large?!)
Comments and ratings are, as per usual, welcome and appreciated.
