Partly Cloudy

Partly Cloudy
Weeks dragged on and no word from the fleet of exploration. No word at the forward base in the Admiral Islands and no word back on the east coast. Concerns grew and faded over time. Many think the expedition has simply been lost at sea. Others have not given up hope and have pressed for a rescue fleet to be sent out and find the missing sailors. As more time has passed and more events have happened at home, pressure for a rescue has become somewhat fragmented. Admiral Hestorb has been concerned and may soon dispatch a fleet to see if there are any survivors past the Admiral Islands. The distractions of daily life have pushed the expedition out of the headlines - unusually cold weather, sports championships and settlements in the west have turned attention away from Archduke Bower and his intrepid little fleet of wooden ships. The weather has been a hot topic for conversation lately. First, very cold weather across most of the nation. And now, unusual cloudiness. What can be so unusual about clouds? Cloud shapes never seen in Schulmania before have been appearing nationwide. Scientists are baffled and at a loss to explain the phenomenon. Here is what observers are seeing.
CASE 1

Kenny Paradise, Schulmania's largest fragrant flower farmer, was distracted by what he saw as he surveyed his plantation of lavender and orchids.

CASE 2

It was nearly dusk when Sir William finished his day's journey. He has been touring the nation since being appointed as District Manager for Western Wirdleonia's Bureau of Feline Affairs office. He was excited to have finally made it to the ocean. And, how startling the clouds are...

CASE 3

Jon Cetemander is one of the first entrepreneurs to set up in the nature preserve in the headwaters of the Wirdleonia River. His boat rental agency allows for nature lovers to float down the river all the way to Schulmanukau if they wish. Many enjoy the scenery along the shoreline. But, today, Jon and his guests were distracted by something odd...

CASE 4

Outside of Tanagiers, the district capital, René Glücksieben has built a fine estate for Princess Katherine. As he surveyed the surroundings from a third story window, something odd struck his eye.

CASE 5

In central New Atkinos, pedestrians watched as the clouds started to form right in front of their eyes. Truly a remarkable phenomenon.

CASE 6

This weather phenomenon has mystified the meteorologists and perplexed the prognosticators. Even the academics are astounded and our furry friends flabbergasted. [/alliteration lesson... + bonus points for extended synonyms for "mystified"] Pundits and wordsmiths have come up with monikers for the novel phenomenon: "string clouds", "bird trails" and the catchiest one, "skywriting." But, back at the national capitol in Wirt, Admiral Hestorb is not so amused. She doesn't see whimsy in the sky - she sees trouble.
