cities skylines 24. New City Tower
Alpine City's new city development has officially begun. Let's take a look at the latest development in New City.
The first stop is at the tip of the city, where a new landmark is built - Alpine City Tower. It is a tourist attraction, and easily dwarfs any building in the old town and even Newgrounds. It contains an observatory floor near the top.
Even in New City, this tower is very noticeable, and is currently the tallest structure of the city. However, it is very likely that some new buildings could be taller than the Alpine City Tower in the future.
Going a bit further away from the tower, let's take a look at the grand roundabout in the middle of New City.
It has become the road traffic node for New City. Turns out, citizens travelling between sectors do heavily rely on this roundabout. To avoid pedestrian crossing road traffic, a foot bridge is built along the outer edge of the roundabout. Due to the open-ness of the roundabout, this ring bridge accidentially created a very scenic walk for tourists.
The roundabout connects to 4 green belts that separate the 4 sectors. Originally the city council planned to plant trees here. But later on, it was preferred to keep the sight line clear for all green belts. It is therefore changed to hard lanscape design with randomly crossing pedestrian paths.
The shoreline are all provided with parks. Trees are allowed here, and park facilities will be built as the city developes.
Apart from the above green space, the city sectors in themselves also has some green, open space, although in a smaller scale.
As learned from the old town, the city layout should encourage the use of public transport for as much as possible, and as few car as possible. Therefore, some of the New City's roads are allocated for pedestrian paths, and with a road-level tram system.
Trams and bus are then connected to the train stations, allowing rapid access to Newgrounds and Rosewood, and by extension, the airport.
New City's development is still at its early stage. For now, the view from the Summit Castle towards New City hasn't changed much yet. But it won't stay unchanged for long.
Below are some aerial view of the city at night and the latest city map.
