Q&A

Here we go:

  1. Q: What's your journey of playing SC4?
A: I first heard SC4 in 2015 (age 11) from a SimCity 4 thread (equivalent to topics here) on Kaskus, an Indonesian forum site for everything. SimCity 4 teaches me about city planning, which is a departure from racing games and soccer (or football in the rest of the world). Then, I moved to Minecraft and hadn’t touched SC4 ever since. I seriously playing the game in 2017, when I had a trouble with a server which I don’t want to discuss here since discussing that is illegal here. I have been learning SC4 since then. I spent 4 years from plain beginner to reasonably skilled player.
  2. Q: Why your plan is so basic at first?
A: Because I want to get started as quickly as possible.
Making the plan perfect at the start is like wasting time on blinking cursor on Word. I mean, seriously. I was experiencing such perfectionism in the past 4 years and it’s not ideal to my mind. Only since second half of 2020, I can stop seeking for perfection too much. Feedback is more important than “I have the most perfect start in history of SimCity 4.”
  3. Q: Do you have any plans to expand on YouTube for instance?
    A:
Yes, I do. YouTube is an incredible platform especially for CJs. That’s because CJs are stories and stories are better presented in video. I may also expand to TikTok but I personally don’t use it so I can’t speak about the app.
  4. Q: What are your weakness of SimCity 4?
    A:
Flora and deeper breath of NAM. Flora is so exhausting that if I have to do flora myself, it’s quite a stressful task for me. So, I will be hiring a flora master to assist myself. Deeper breath of NAM means RealHighway, RealRailway, and to some extent, traffic sim.
  5. Q: Why do you prefer feedback instead of being a perfectionist?
    A:
Perfectionism is really a killer of progress. Why? Because it procrastinates you to stare on “blinking cursor on Word.” Don’t get me wrong, I do want high standards. But, I don’t force myself to achieve such standards. I’m instead only achieve standards just little bit higher from my existing standards. Life is a flow. Everyone has his/her pace. Don’t force yourself to go beyond your pace. I know this because as discussed above, I experienced perfectionism for a quite long time. To achieve perfection, instead of innate feeling of “I must be perfect”, seek feedback instead. Feedback is a great tool to know your weaknesses and helps fixing the weaknesses. Even the pros who famously known for their perfectionism are still considers feedbacks to be important. Because without feedbacks, cities made by pros would be all grids and only due to geographics, they curved for instance, not reasonably gridless.
  6. Q: Why do you end this city?
A: I don't get much feedback. It's not like, even featured in the community independently. It's like making a YouTube video with no people to watch. Sure the video quality is cinema-standard and the content is just top notch. But if no people, literally no people even after certain days or months or years, I'm just wasting my time. If my purpose is just for personal collection, I'll be fine and even better since I have a cinematic high-quality video of mine. But if the purpose to build a solid fanbase, not gonna happen except if in the future somehow my content is discovered. I also didn't put a lot of time in my CJ, hence the quality produced. So, I decided to leave this CJ. It doesn't mean that I'll get out from CJ or even SimCity 4 altogether or removing the city from my computer or this CJ is completely useless. I'll still here in Simtropolis and making better contents than this. I may still playing the city. I may revisit this CJ again if there's some feedback in it. I may even change my mind and start the CJ again. But for now, I won't work on this CJ. I'm so sorry.

That's my Q&A for now. Thank you for your attention.

Please excuse me for being blunt but...

It seems you are more preocupied with getting feedback and recognition rather than really creating a nice, quality CJ.

I'm sorry to say this, but your CJ is filled with complaints. It has little to do with the city building.

One of the things that I really find unsettling is that you take an issue with your journal not being there on the front page in the featured section.

There are many CJs like this here on this page. Everyone does their own stuff out of devotion to SC4. What makes you think your CJ should be better and promoted to a "featured" status? It's just not fair.

Nobody buys, nor negotiates their way into Simtropolis. Everyone is equally important like Cyclone said. Doesn't matter whether they make a single post per month or a dozen daily.
