Canarsie, East New York: Neighbour Connections for an Island Bedroom Community
Canarsie: Neighbour Connections for an Island Bedroom Community
This is just a little post, short and sweet, to update y'all on my city startup planning for Carnarsie Pol, East New York, my island city and bedroom community. You can spot my Canarsie large city tile just north of Jamaica Bay, spotlighted in the centre of my East New York region map below:
That little island will be the focus of my initial development. Not too little, mind ... that one island is literally the size of a small city tile, and will sport three Ferries, with two OWR-4 ferry loops, and one Fly-swat ferry loop, as the centres of a quiet little spot of tourism, in addition to housing the local supermarket and liquor store. Being a bedroom community, the island itself will only have a wee little bit of C$$ commercial around the ferry terminals, and a tiny smattering of manufacturing (I-M) to attract R$ tourists, too. It's super funny that the R$ tourists come only to see the local manufacturing plants (I-M), passing up the opportunities to go kayaking, sailing, bird-watching or bushwalking, but there it is.
If the R$ tourists only want to see manufacturing plants (I-M), I'd best get me some!
To see why I'm so keen on careful placement of road neighbour connections, and ferries, this Neighbour Connection Strategy with a C$$$ Tourism Focus post of mine explains. The reasons are economic ... C$$$ economic, to be precise. Neighbour Connections are the most powerful tools in the game for driving commercial growth, and ferries are essentially ploppable Neighbour Connections!
Here's the real life East New York location for Carnarsie Pol, East New York, an undeveloped island next door to my C$$$ tourism powerhouse, Jamaica Bay, it's immediate southward city neighbour. My city mayor, Rosa Parks, has been given the responsibility for developing this natural paradise as a bedroom community, while preserving it's most beautiful natural features. The surrounding islands to the east will remain as pristine nature reserves.
Sadly, my regional Neighbour Connection strategy demands that I divert the south end of Belt Pkwy across through Old Mill Basin, rather than continuing on to the RHW interchange at the Marine Park Golf Course. In lieu of that road connection to Jamaica Bay, I'll place a Car Ferry on that little southern peninsula near Bergen Beach, with an OWR-4 ferry loop, of course!
Just one more little ferry (with a Fly-swat ferry loop), near the roundabout interchange on that Google Satellite screenshot. I'm totally gonna do that weird offset roundabout interchange, too. Love it!
I'll eventually develop the three road neighbour connections on the mainland, but the island itself will have no car access off the island, only ferries!
There will be a secret underwater road tunnel from the island to the mainland, but that will only be for trucks, to solve the sticky problem of trash disposal. Shhhh! That road tunnel will be very secret ... no sims allowed!
