Show us your Underwater Pedmalls!
... and closeups of your other most quirky, quixoticcurious, cool, or captivating underwater creations, too.  *:ohyes:

A recent discovery around coffee and beer has led to the creation of this brand new Show Us thread, and hey, why restrict it to pedmalls?   I don't know how popular this thread will be, but it definitely fits my reputation for the quirky and curious.  *;)

While most of my underwater decorating to date has involved draining the sea (my favourite use of for the Diagonal Bridge Enabler), just 18 hours ago came the news of a revolutionary discovery, that the NAM pedmalls can be plopped underwater, without even draining the sea ... well they can in all but one of my cities.  To top it off, the NAM pedmalls are slope conforming, providing a very easy and fascinating glimpse of the underwater world inside our shallow saltwater creeks, rivers, and bays.

If you're having trouble seeing underwater for your pedmall plopping, the Water Pollution view makes the water (almost) transparent.

BTW, yes, I confirmed just this morning, that strategically placed underwater pedmalls do get the sims into the water.  I've never been able coax them in for a swim before, but now I've got some sims swimming to work, so this truly does open up a whole new sub-branch of commuting!  *:P**:D

Any tips, techniques, tools or tutorials about underwater plopping would also be very, very welcome.

I haven't got any snapshots of sim pedestrians in the water yet, but if any of you spot 'em, please do post and share.  *:ducky:

Okay, they're not actually swimming this time, but notice the sims are taking a detour specifically to get their feet wet on the way to work.  How good is that!

( my sims' happiness is my happiness )  :ooh:

Click on the image to zoom in.  Notice, too, that the sandstone pedmalls are not only a perfect match for the Passenger Ferry texture, it's also a gorgeous look for the pier seawalls, no seawall mod required!  *;)

    ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

PS.  For those of you following my ferry and transit lot posts, you'll see there is a one tile gap between transit lots, very, very, very important, if you want sims to use both Ferry and Bus Stop, or both Ferry and Ninja Kiosk, in the one commute trip.

This is a true Ferry network, not eye candy on a bus network.

    Whoa! That's excellent. *:thumb:

Sandstone Buttressing ... yes, there is a wee little bit of sandstone underwater!  :LlamaLeap:

This bridge on the Canarsie foreshore needed a little polishing, and those Sandstone Pedmalls look strong enough for the job.  No sims allowed on these ones!

They go well with the tunnel and the electricity tower, too, don't you think?  And this is one time that squarish look under the water is an asset.  *:bunny:

Sadly, they won't plop on the tiles under the bridge, but I've been under enough bridges in my time to know that the underside is often very disreputable looking.  :ooh:

Well if it isn't quirky, it certainly is curious ... underwater machinery, and an offshore stadium, and a container ship parking bay.  Thank you for posting, @IL.!  *:ohyes:

I just have to ask ... how does the underwater pedmall allow you to do terraforming without destroying the stadium?

    Thank you

When you put a pedmall under a building it gets stuck there (as long you don't bulldoze it) you can anything you want to the terrain under it without destroying the building.

You can even put other things under it (thought you will only see they won't always look good because the building will always cover everything under it even if the one you placed under is much taller than that building).

It's been a long time since I played SC4 so try to play around with the ped malls and buildings and all.

The machinery things are underwater farms btw, they are available on Japanese SimCity 4 modding websites if you're interrested , you could use google translation to translate you key words into japanese and use google.jp or check these, there are many useful links:

Underwater Pedmalls for Fire Truck Access

Sorry, I couldn't resist trying this out in my Jamaica Bay city tile.

Those pedmalls you can see heading out under the water ... those are FLUPs pedmalls, and yep, they provide very speedy fire truck access for my underwater fire station.  *:D

The nearby Marina has a very special weekend tour in a glass bottom boat, for anyone who wants a close up view of this technological marvel.  *;)

    Very cool :D

I'm glad that you were inspired :D

Jesus H Superstar... I didn't realize this gem existed...

    It's a beginning of a brave, new (water)world!

I was aware that one can put pedmalls underwater but this...? :boggle:

Thanks for bringing this back up @IL.

    ________

EDIT: I'm still confused... How do you actually shove that pedmall under the building...? The game simply returns the standard "already occupied" message when doing so. :nyah: And trying to place the pedmall at an already existing building either destroys the building or, also, returns the "already occupied" message...

    You're welcome :)

It's been a while since I played simcity4, but I remember that it just works, you have to build the building first, then place the ped mall over it, that way the building is just there and wont get destoryed when you modify the terrain around it and you can do weird things with that

Then I believe NAM must have changed, because now there is simply no way to shove a pedmall piece under an existing building. :( It just dances all around it but can never be placed on any tile that the building occupies.
