Brisbane CBD
Brisbane's central business district, known as 'Brisbane' or rarely 'the city' due to the multi-focal nature of the region's urban structure, has been the traditional centre of business within the urban area. Home to a mix of older and newer architectural styles, its skyline has slowly grown to incorporate neighbouring Edmonton and Petrie in the neighbouring tiles. Significant residential and some office developments have also occurred south of the Brisbane River inlet in South Brisbane, owing to its proximity and rapid transit links. A major stadium, completed in 2000 on reclaimed land, has become an international landmark.
Brisbane's core is fed by several major rail stations, which are serviced by nearly a dozen commuter train lines (C-Train, for commuter), several high-speed lines (R-Train, for rapid), a number of light rail services (L-Train, L-Tram or just Tram, for light), and half a dozen rapid-transit underground lines (U-Train, for underground). These services radiate out through a number of tiles and ferry hundreds of thousands of workers to and from work daily. In addition to the C, U, R and L-Train lines (operated by Brisbane Transport), interstate and international high speed rail services operated by InterCity Trains (ICT) run to East Brisbane. Bus connections are found at most stations, however North Brisbane is the major hub for most intercity, interstate and local bus lines.
(There are of course a number of other stations not shown on the below map.)
Below is a closer look at Brisbane Central, which is a major terminus station for C-Train lines 1a, 1b, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8 and 9. The C6 was abolished due to poor ridership. The C1a and C1b are near identical (both run from Brisbane Central to Somerset), however deviate for a small number of minor stations along their route. Most C-Train lines run every 10 minutes off-peak (C1a and C1b run 20 minutes each), with peak-time frequencies of between every 10 and every 3 minutes, depending on line. Brisbane Central also has six L-Train platforms and 12 underground U-Train platforms.
Stay tuned for more, there'll hopefully be a map of the train lines soon, as well as a look at two other major centres and also some suburbia.
