I decided to put Absolom on hold for now because I couldn't do what I wanted to do with it, but I liked the direction it was going. I'm sure I'll revisit it, but for now, I present Abbey Dell!

I couldn't do sunken highways with Absolom like I can with Abbey Dell, which is why Absolom is on hold for the time being. This is my first attempt at a sunken highway since SC4, and even though it took several hours to get a decent stretch of highway completed, I think it was worth the time.

I searched youtube for tutorial videos to help me with my sunken highway project, and I found a really good one! Unfortunately, it was in French, so I couldn't understand what he was saying, but as we know, city-building transcends language, and I got the basic idea what he was describing. Well, toward the end of the video, he shows one of his cities that I thought had alleys. I thought that was a pretty cool idea, so I tried to do them with the wide pedestrian paths and then some parking lots from the Workshop. I found out after watching the video again, however, that what I thought were alleys were just streets, but I liked the idea, so I still went with it. What do you think so far?

Here's the beginning (or end depending on the direction) of the sunken highway that goes through what is currently the heart of the city.

A random close-up shot. My only qualm with this shot is how blurry the foreground is and how clear the background is by comparison. Does anyone have any suggestions to fix this? I'd appreciate any ideas.

Thanks! I hope you enjoyed your first taste of Abbey Dell! Please feel free to comment, like, and/or rate!

For close up screenshots you can turn off or change the "depth of field" option in graphics settings. That's what setting tells the game's "camera" to focus differently based on how far apart you want the closest and farthest object in focus to be from each other. When you are far away building stuff, most objects are a more similar distance from one another; when you are down at street level, the closest objet is very close and the farthest is very far, so you want to have a different depth of field setting. http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/fototech/htmls/depth.html

Turning down the film grain effect will make it a bit clearer as well. You can also take a 4x size screenshot if you aren't doing that already. That will momentarily pause the simulation, render a frame at 4x and save it, then go back to whatever the game was doing. Helps the edges and corners look better.

The sunken highway looks great! I've never tried one with walls, only with natural slopes on the sides so far.

That's a great tip, matthewscott6615.  I've had the same issue and just never took the time to monkey with it.

I agree about the sunken highway, too.  You'll recall that it took a couple of years before sunken highway custom content was available in SC4 (or maybe not, depending on when you started playing the game).  The fact that you can create something like what's shown in your images in less than a year after C:S was first published says volumes about the potential there.

Thank you so much! I'll try that out for my next post!

Yeah, I remember it taking quite some time. I played for the quite a few years from its release, but slowly stopped when the amount of add-ons and tracking them and all that got to be too much. I like how the Workshop keeps things organized for me. lol

Me too. No more having to check manually for updates. :D

Your CJ is really cool, btw! Exactly how I hope my city looks when it's a bit bigger.
