Okay! Time to load up the game again and...

...okay, I did not see that coming. :P

So, this happened almost immediately. More money in my account!

There's a fire! Seems that the fire trucks can take care of everything automatically. I couldn't find a manual dispatch button. All worked out okay in the end.

Downtown is looking good, now that I've widened the road. :)

Okay, so I decided to go ahead and buy a neighboring parcel of land. I thought that would give me a new city to load and play with. Nope, it simply doubled the size of the existing city.

I widened the road down to the industrial area, which wiped out all the buildings. What I discovered this time was that zoning doesn't provide power; only buildings do that. Since I used up all my money upgrading the roads, I had to take out a loan to build some electrical towers to cover the massive blackout that happened in the other part of the city. Fortunately, industry recovered quickly and I was back in the black very quickly!

And I reached yet another new level!

I've noticed that every second level is a big one. This one provided me with lots of goodies.

The last upgrade gave me the option of buying yet another block of land. Now I'm three times bigger than I started!

The next time I play, I will be completely restructuring this on/off ramp so that the main road goes through it. I've never done such a thing before, even in SC4. Wish me luck! Results will be shown tomorrow. :)

Well, this was fast!

Good news to know that purchasing more land makes your city lot larger, without reloads, I was fearing another small city syndrome like in SC2013.

Can you buy land at any time? What if you want a farm, forest, etc. ? Is an increase in population necessary beforehand?

Great stuff! To answer your question Hellken, as I have been following let's play of CS a lot this week, as you city reaches certain population thresholds there are more availabe 2 by 2km tiles unlocked. Unmodded there are nine to unlock which are positioned directly adjacent to currently used city tiles. With a mod this number increases to 25!

Because you can pick which city tiles to buy, then you can have irregular shaped cities and not just a square mega block of buildings. Just with ten city tiles I have seen cities that feel super big, they have a Judge Dredd or Bladerunner feel about them. Zooming in close and one feels so small.

Imagine that feeling of space with 26 city tiles to use. You could create a large CBD and have plenty of space for the suburbs.

TekindusT: That is nice, isn't it? No reloading at all! I'm playing on a Mac, which has an OS that is absolutely NOT known for being gaming-friendly. So far, the game works pretty well on it, but I don't know what it's going to be like when I have a lot of city tiles under my belt.

Hellken: Ln X is right. It seems to me, so far, that you can buy a new tile at every second milestone that you reach. I'm up to my fourth milestone and have therefore purchased two. I'd like to buy myself the entirety of that lake.  :)

Ln X: I think I can surely say that 26 tiles will slow my computer down.  :P

SimCoug: Yeah, I don't get that one either. :P
