Belize & Guatemala - 2014 Schulmania State Visit

A delegation from the Bureau of Feline Affairs, headed by Princess Ava, recently returned to The Wirdleplex from a State Visit to Belize and Guatemala. Today, we will look at some of the results of the trip from western Belize. Other than the National Assembly building in Belmopan, the other pictures are all in the Cayo District, not far from San Ignacio. There are also a few peeks at the new Prehistoric Mesoamerica inspired SimCity creation due to be released in Harar after a while. Why would the BFA want to go to Belize (other than the fact that it totally rocks, of course!) is that Belize is home to five wildcat species. And who in Schulmania would not want to see that??!! They are:

Jaguar

Jaguarundi

Margay

Pumas

Ocelot
And now, let's celebrate Belize!
CAHAL PECH, Cayo District

XUNANTUNICH, Cayo District

And a few bonus critter pix:

Iguana on the side of the big pyramid temple
BELMOPAN, National Capital

The design of the National Assembly building is inspired by Mayan designs
Lest we forget, Guatemala is also one of the original birthplaces of CHOCOLATE!!!
And now, let's celebrate Guatemala!
TIKAL, GUATEMALA

The base of a massive ceiba tree... so tall it needs to be buttressed to stay upright!

The crown of the aforementioned ceiba tree... way way way up there!

A simian friend was "hanging out" with us... you have to watch out if they are overhead because they like to fling "certain organic materials" at you

This blurry "Bigfoot" style picture is the coatimundi... wouldn't you know the only time it finally came out in the open I could not get a better picture than this...

A pyramid temple. The upright stones are stelae and the flat round stone discs are altars.

A pyramid pokes through the jungle canopy as viewed from atop the massive Temple IV

The grand plaza's pyramids poking up through the jungle, again viewed from Temple IV's summit

One of the distinctive temples in the grand plaza of Tikal

Countess Katherine II has gotten into the Guatemalan Maya spirit as well. See her spot-on impression of a Tikal pyramid:

PART 3: SOME COOL NATURE PIX!

The cool hanging nests of the oropendola birds...

Termite mound in a tree

Ant nests in trees... a first for me to see!

Never hug a ceiba tree!

Ricky caught an owl butterfly. You can see how it got its name...
