Status Update

Before the the actual update I'd like to apologize that this took so long to get out, these last couple of weeks have been a bit rough with several different personal/family issues coming up at the same time and I got hit with another dose of bad news today. I'll try to be a bit more regular with this from now on.

If this is your first time reading Progress I recommend you go back to the first update (I call it Update Zero), which includes some important information about how this works. There is a link to it on the right sidebar.

The members of the wagon train have agreed to settle at the site where a creek enters a larger river. The surrounding region is hilly and the site is heavily wooded, but the travelers decided that looking for a site with less timber to clear was more risky with Winter approaching. The settlers have cleared a portion wooded area, and most people have decided to set up camp in the manmade clearing. The wood they have collected so far will be useful as they start to build more permanent dwellings.

Another smaller group decided to set up a camp near the river and try their hand at fishing the waters. The settlers here found evidence of Native American activity in the area.

The settlers held a meeting yesterday to decide how they would divide up the land in their new town. They decided to draw up a plat of the planned town. The current settlements are shown in the lighter lines under the lot markings.

They all agreed that the lots would be claimed on a first-come-first-served basis. They decided that settlers could choose to live outside the town itself and establish farms, hunting lodges, etc., but that they would have to clear the land on their own.

Join Action: You cannot join Progress in this update.

Character Action: There are two possible actions for characters in this update.

Action 1: Pick a lot and settle in the town or clear your land outside of town.

Action 2: Build a home or shop on the land you selected. (Only houses can be built outside of town.)

To perform a character action reply in the comments using the form "Character name selects lot x and builds a shop.

Community Poll: Decide on the first community structure to build.

The next entry will catch up with the settlers after their first Winter in Spring of 1859.

John Rothbard builds a shop with a spacious backroom which might be usefull when the docks are complete, on lot 37 and cleares a land just outside of town for a house.

He plans, his bussiness and entire town will be prosperous if the market is already created before the docks.

Arne Katherfaer chooses lot 33 and builds a home. He cleares land outside the town for farming. The lumber gathered from the clearing will be sold/given to the community.

Willard Smithers chooses lot 3 and builds an imports shop for taking in goods from the docks and selling them at excellent prices. The Smithers family also clears land outside the town for a home, and all lumber from the clearing is donated to the town supply.

Alan Travin & Co. select Lot 16 and builds a pair of houses.

Please, correct my character's name, it's Alan Travin, not Tralin.

Without a market your population wont trade and get food, wood etc... It would be a really useful investment

Anyone else see that? Someone named John Booth, 3 years before Abe Lincoln's death.

Smells suspicous.

I know we don't know that he will kill Abe, but can we kill him for alternative reality purposes?

Or it could be a vote, but he could make a new character.

Chester Proudfoot selects lot 29 and builds a home.

I vote for building a market to make sure everyone has food for the winter...

John Harding selects lot 34 and builds a home

Lot 34 has already been chosen. I also don't have you down as having a Character.

---

Now for a couple general announcements:

If you do not pick an option your character will build a house on a random lot. If you choose a building but pick a lot that's taken you'll get a random lot.

Also, I'm not going to allow a character to build something inappropriate like a Brothel, if you do that you just get a house.

You can only do one of each action per turn. In all these cases I will perform the first action you list and your second action will be carried out next update.

Antoine Bélisle selects lot 27 (if not already used) and builds a home.

I believe Town Hall would be the best community building, but it seems you guys chose the market.
