Welcome to the Jacques D'Arvor / L'Acre International Airport!

This magnificent and large airport serves the city of L'Acre, the largest metropolitan area in the Republic. With an abundance or airlines serving destinations all over Europe and all six inhabited continents, there is virtually no destination that cannot be reached through this airport. As such, it is the main international gateway into the Republic.

The airport saw 44,673,116 passengers through its terminals in the FY2012, making it the 22nd busiest airport in terms of passenger volume in the world, in line with San Francisco International Airport (23rd) and the Shanghai Pudong International Airport (21st).

In terms of Cargo Handling, the airport moved 2,063,485 tons of cargo in the FY2012, putting it just behind Frankfurt Airport and ahead of Tokyo Narita International Airport for the 10th spot in the world - making the airport the southern gateway in Europe for air cargo exports/imports.

In terms of total aircraft movements, the airport saw 482,328 movements, putting it ahead of London Heathrow International Airport and behind Frankfurt Airport for the 12th spot in the world.

The airport is located in the state of Astapôr, just 35km south of the city of L'Acre, on the coast.

Here is a map of the terminal:

The terminal is serviced by a high speed train and rapid bus transit, as well as public access for cars/taxis with ample parking provided. There are three terminals, and 8 concourses.

Terminal 1, 3 - Domestic/European

Terminal 2 - International (non-European)

Concourse(s) A, G - Domestic (destinations in the Republic)

Concourse(s) B, E, F (European Continental destinations)

Concourse(s) H- Regional

Concourse(s) C, D - International (non-European/republic)

The airport is serviced by 6 runways, 3 E/W orientation, 3 N/S orientation in a fan-spread design around the airport which can allow for up to 3 simultaneous departures and up to 2 simultaneous arrivals or aircraft without worry of turbulence due to the spread of the planes.

Being on the coast allows for one of the runways, 36 R to extend in to the Mediterranean Sea.

Overall a good airport. If you want helpful criticism, in my opinion, some of the problems would include:

1.) Runway length (these are rather short runways)-To accommodate an A340-600, which I see is the largest plane in the airport by that Iberia A340-600 on the taxiway, the airport runway length would need to be a minimum of 194 tiles to allow that plane to take off. Also, runways aren't one direction, so you should have equal amounts of markings/lighting/approach systems on both sides.

2.) Terraforming (I notice that runway 9 is sort of uneven)

3.) Runway Designations, the runway numbers are based on the heading of a compass. The runway number 36 for example would indicate that a runway is facing North, 18 for South, 9 for East, and 27 for West. In this airport, 17 is at a right angle with Runway 36, and Runway 9 is parallel to Runway 36. I realize that may be a bit stupid to point that out, but you did ask for criticism :P. For pilots, that's kind of like dividing by zero lol.

4.) The water runway has barriers on the seawalls that look like they may be a hazard to planes. I realize there's nothing you can really do about that, but this is criticism after all.

Anyways, I'm just being an a-hole James. Take my criticism with a grain of salt. :P This is a very beautiful and scenic airport, and you definitely look like you've put a lot of time and effort into it. The terminal layout is rather creative, and I like how everything isn't orthogonal. Nicely done and 5/5 from me! :thumb: Btw, awesome to have Valencia back!

Nice airport! Ace has given some good pointers for future airports! :) I look forward to seeing more of Valencia! :D

You've got a serious work here! I like very much the overall layout. Ace has raised the same criticism points I was going to raise so there's no need to do that now.

BTW, did you know that, in real life, the territory where your capital district stands is a wetland? Perhaps not the best place to construct capitols or monuments... But who cares, it's SimCity!

A tremendous airport elegantly planned and built...which is awesome. Yet in my own thinking, I somehow feel the runway and taxiways built on the water are too narrow in width to accommodate those largest airplanes, one more blank tile on both side of the runway would be better :)

You are right, I do want criticism, otherwise I cannot improve :) I will definitely try to include these improvements. I thought runways might go both ways, but I was not sure. And the numbering system will have to be fixed. Lastly, I used the sea walls because they looked cool, but I hope in real life that those particular ones are never used because they might hit the sea walls!! As far as the really uneven ground in the upper right hand corner, that was unavoidable- for some reason the game kept crashing if I tried to flatten that area or the area of land in the bottom left as well. So that I had to pretend it was just flat.. Thanks guys!

Painful probably compared to anything out there, but its all I know. Also- I live in Colorado and basically live at airports around the world. The thinking behind this airport is the runways on the water like SFO and the curvature terminal design similar to Newark.
may i have the links to the airliners omg
Yes! But I will have to search for them when I get back on my computer- I'm on my iPad ;). Anyway for now try to search for ACB VLT series, search around bripizza.net (Japanese sight) and Taibo's sets. The airline models you see in the pictures are B737s, B747-4s, A380-8, one B787-8, A340-6 and A340-5, as well as A330 and A320

Heh - from what I can see that looks pretty awesomesauce! Shame your poor ol' Photobucket account has run out of bandwidth :(

I may have to rummage around in the STEX/LEX to see what sort of airport mods there are now, the Maxis ones seem really limited now that I've seen this :)

either you use different sea-walls, there's plenty options. also, with the setsealevel cheat, you can use a lot more stuff (e.g. jeronij's highway walls) as seawalls.

or you increase the width of the islands both around the taxiways and the runway so the height of the walls doesn't affect safety. plus it would add an extra margin for ruined landings (thinking of the recent crash landing at KSFO) for the planes wouldn't crash into the wall or slide off into the water immediately...

but you should definitely leave photobucket. nothing worse to host forum-going pictures on than photobucket.
