I'll answer to all the comments in the next update here, don't worry!
The upcoming Spanish elections tomorrow inspired this update that I've been planning during a long time. I've been waiting for the moment I'd be inspired enough to post it and here it is.
Politics...
Here's an small presentation of all the political parties represented in the Barnanovese Parliament. Almost all political parties in the nation are represented because it is so tiny that there are very few parties.
151 seats.
Majority: 75 seats
Partit Centrista de Barnanova - Barnanovese Centrist Party
Ideals: Secularism, Pro-Europeanism, Social liberalism, "Third-Way politics"
Brief history: The PCB is the current governing party since year 2006. It has been in the power in 10 of the 20 political terms since the establishment of the Fifth Constitution. Before the WWII, they were the Democratic Party, one of the oldest political formations in the Principality.
Current status in the Parliament: The PCB owns 50 of the 151 seats with a decrease of 8 seats since the latest term.
Alternativa Barnanovesa Cristiano-Demòcrata - Barnanovese Christian-Democrat Alternative
Ideals: Liberal conservatism, Conservatism, Christian democracy, National conservatism
Brief history: The ABCD emerged during the 90s as a union of all the minor center-right wing parties in the nation, it governed during the 1994-1998 and 2002-2006 political terms, during the known as "Age of Privatization".
Current status in the Parliament: As the second most-voted party, they are the main opposition to the Goverment, and the only right-wing influence on it.
Partit Socialista de Barnanova - Barnanovese Socialist Party
Ideals: Social democracy, Democratic socialism, Progressism
Brief history: Founded as a Worker's Party during the Industrial Revolution, it grew in the same way that all Socialist federations accross Europe. This makes the PSB a formation with a long tradition in Barnanova. It has ruled during 8 political terms since the resoration of democracy.
Current status in the Parliament: They're now the third most-voted party in the Parliament, 6 seats behind the ABCD.
Ciutadans Pel Canvi - Citizens 4 Change
Ideals: Laicism, Liberal progressism
Brief history: This party emerged during the 80, during a period the Goverment ruled the nation in a dictatorial way with a majority in the Parliament. C4C was the product of a citizen's revolution that began in the streets and the universities' classrooms.
Current status in the Parliament: Nowadays, C4C is currently in the Goverment with the PCB and own 4 departments. They are often critisized because of "the loss of the citizens' spirit".
Partit Verd de Barnanova - Barnanovese Green Party
Ideals: Ecosocialism, communism
Brief history: The "Greens" emerged during the 80s and the global concerning about nuclear power. Since then, their ideals have evolved to a sustainable development approach and anti-climate change lobby becoming an influence in the Goverment.
Current status in the Parliament: PVB's election results are always low because of the presence of EAB as the other radical left-wing party. Both parties tried placing a joint candidacy but the negotiations failed.
Aliança Catalanista - Catalanist Alliance
Ideals: Catalanism, Social democracy
Brief history: The AC is one of the oldest parties in the nation, founded with one and only principle: the integration of Barnanova in a unified nation made by the different territories where Catalan language is spoken. Almost all iniciatives regarding language and culture protection are placed by them.
Current status in the Parliament: They own 5 seats nowadays, a bad situation considering that AC was a powerful party during the 30s and the 40s. Nevertheless, it is a party with a truly active base.
Esquerra Alternativa de Barnanova - Barnanovese Alternative Left
Ideals: Anticapitalism, communism
Brief history: EAB was born as an excision of the PSB, made by affiliates who felt the PSB had lost its left-wing values during the 70s. The internal debate between troskists, maoists, leninism and stalinists is a constant since its creation.
Current status in the Parliament: Owning 3 seats, they claim being the only truly left-wing formation in Barnanova.
Unió Feminista - Feminist Union
Ideals: Radical feminism
Brief history: Created in the 60s, the only im of the UF is the defense of women policies in the Parliament. They have lobbied hard for 40 years to shape their ideals in the nation.
Current status in the Parliament: With 2 seats, they don't have an influence on the Goverment, but all laws passed are reviewed with a feminist approach.
Moviment Nacional Barnanovès - Barnanovese National Movement
Ideals: Fascism, Right-wing populism, Euroscepticism
Brief history: The MNB was the one and only legal political party in Barnanova during The Dictatorship (1947-1958). Nowadays, the MNB is all that remains of the ideals of The Dictatorship, still with enough support to be represented in the Parliament.
Current status in the Parliament: With 1 seat, they are totally isolated and take more attention from the media because of their proposals rather than their true activity.
