12. Flattop Hill

Area: Crater Lake

Tile: Flattop Hill

Welcome to another update of the Ring of Fire. Today we leave Mt. Fuji and the Bluewater River behind and head north towards Crater Lake on the back road from Fuji Fields. Flattop Hill is just a high bump on one of the arms that make up the former Mt. Mazama (the volcano that became crater lake). There is just a few large farms here with a small community clustered along the road through.

1. Encountering the first farms.

2. More farms on the road up. Houses start to appear.

3. The handful of businesses along the road that constitutes 'town'

4. To the right of the road, the hillside starts falling away.

5. A line of houses was built here for the nice view over the valley below, as well as farmer Bob's land (we'll get to him in the future).

6. As the road exits out of town is curves around the backside of the hill. We're now high enough that lodgepole pine and aspen start to grow.

7. In fall the town takes on some new colors.

(I've recently discovered lowkee's seasonal version of cp's flora. I never bothered with it before because i thought it was the same as some 'seasonal' stuff i was using where the seasons were a cycle of 4 clicks then permanent on placement. Boy was I wrong: lowkee's stuff is awesome, and we will be abusing it thoroughly icon_biggrin.gif )

8. The scraggly deciduous trees that have grown up in the previously cleared land contrast with the green forests surrounding the town.

9. Fall along the road. Some of the vegetation takes on a dead look.

10. And finally an overview of town. Farmer bob's family compound is on the right. That will be the focus of our next update.

I hope you all liked the introduction to the backroads of the Crater Lake area.

Feel free to rate, +1 and leave your thoughts below if you want to.

Enjoy the weekend everyone.
