Hi all,

I'm goning on a trip soon, and as there will be a couple of 9-hour car rides involved, I wanted to know if it was possible to hook a GameCube system up to a car's DVD player somehow. I'd also like to know if there are any items I'd need to do that, and where I could get them. Thanks!

It depends on what kind of system is in the car.

Check to see if there is a place for aux input.

Do your parents still have the manuals that came with the car?    (It might be in a supplemental manual on the DVD system.)  It should have instructions on what to do and what cables you need and if it's possible at all.

We can inspire others through witness so that one grows together in communicating. But the worst thing of all is religious proselytism, which paralyzes: “I am talking with you in order to persuade you.” No. Each person dialogues, starting with his and her own identity. The church grows by attraction, not proselytizing.    - Pope Francis

I think that many of the more recent premium models (minivans, SUVs, some passenger cars) allow for that option. (I personally would much rather stick to a handheld, because I would find the console cumbersome, but hey, to each their own).

My friends do it all the time... I think they plug it into where they plug in the cell phone, but please check the car manual!!!! I don't want to ruin your car.

It's possible. Check to see if the cars DVD player has a composite input (3 prong: white, yellow, red). Next, you need to purchase a power inverter. This will allow you to connect the GC to the cars power source.

Some luxury cars come with power outlets.  I'm pretty sure the Lincoln Mark LT does, the Yukon Denali does, and, if my memory is correct, the Lexus GX 470 does also.

If you have some money, Im sure you will be able to play some vido games in your car.. you just have to go to some special shops, or sth like this, and they will tell you everything about it... 22.gif

You can do it...but the wires get pretty messy imo...If you have connection for an A/V cable to the DVD player you can connect it there...and then you can purchase a power inverter ($30-50) to provide electricity for the device...make sure you get enough wattage, etc.

In my opinion, it's not worth the trouble...handheld would be better...or even better than that...do my favorite long car ride pastime...sleep.

Haha! I'd rather bring a book or something (apparently I'm the only person on earth that doesn't get nausea while reading in a moving vehicle) considering our car (well, my grandma's) doesnt even have a CD player, let alone a dvd/tv system. Besides, all the bouncing on the highway would probably ruin the game play. If you HAVE to play games bring a handheld instead.

I've had to endure the 9 hour drive from Thunder Bay to Sault Ste Marie 6 times in my life, and not once have I spoiled the moment with a video game. 4.gif

Well, with the power, if you have a 12 V socket in your car (most cars have these), it'll be a bit hard. But if you have a normal socket (220-240V, two round pins in Europe), you shouldn't have much problems, just check how many watts (W) can your socket take and at how many does your GC operate.

The connection should otherwise be possible if you have an RGB input on your DVD player.

I don't think you'd need the PS2 to make your friends envious...

People also tell me..."how can you read in the car without getting carsick", and it seems like people were even more amazed when I was reading while walking on the trail at my local park.

But anyways...I've also used the computer in the car a good many times...It seems boring without internet though....

I get carsick way too easily. I can't read or even look at a map for more than about 30 seconds. I usually end up driving whenever I go somewhere because I won't get bored. Though, I've never been bored at looking out the window. So much to see.

My sister is the exact opposite. She has ridden the the back of my family's station wagon driven by a 15 year old permit driver, facing backwards, with headphones on, and learning how to knit with a knitting book. She's never been carsick in her life.

I only got carsick once, and it was actually because I was dehydrated. 3.gif Really hot summer day. It was horrible.

Vid: You're not the only one who can read without getting carsick. Give me a book on programming and I can sit forever without getting bored or stopping (with is really odd as I get sore after 100 miles of riding).
