Now, I'm sure this question has probably been asked multiple times in the forums, but is there any way to get rid of landfills that are alrady being used? Any response would be appreciated. Thanks

hi vanquish, welcome to simtropolis!

If you want to get rid of landfills, you should build some things like those garbage-to-power plants, that can handle the entire garbage capacity. In time, you will see your landfills getting empty. and at a certain moment, you can dezone the empty landfills. However, it takes some time for landfills to get empty.

oh, and trying to demolish them with a meteor doesn't work. Believe me, I've tried 2.gif

If you have one landfill it would also be good to remove road access, so that your landfill gets decomissioned. It won't get any garbage, so it will be ready for rezoning earlier.
If however, you have more than one landfills, don't bulldoze the roads, just make the garbage processing capacity (utilities + deals) somewhat higher than the city's needs. Incinerators won't burn the garbage already in the landfills, but as the garbage quantity starts dwindling, the game will start moving the rest of the garbage to a single landfill, ie you will have one full landfill and the others will start getting empty. The game always tries to accumulate all garbage to as little space as possible. When a landfill is emptied, dezone it, and when finally you have a single landfill, remove road access too.
In both cases you will end up with a small 2x2 landfill with some little garbage, this may take decades to get really empty (so that it's possible to dezone it), in some cases it may prove too persistent, but finally it is always emptied.
Try my Incinerator lot (on the STEX) it's a non-power-generating incinerator, and the pack also contains a modified version of the GraphMod, so that you can plan your garbage processing better.

Are you sure about the incinerator Cogeo or am I just misreading what you mean? I get the feeling that, especially after what you said, that the garbage lots that are filled correspond to the rate at which garbage is made in the city. Is this correct? So introducing an incinerator doesn't burn garbage there but reduces the rate? I'm not sure. I just know that my landfills are reduced to pretty much nothing (coinciding with this consolidation of garbage as you suggest) after bringing in a plant. Cheers, X

I didn't say that, just that incinerators don't burn the garbage already sent to landfills. Landfills decay the garbage at a set rate (and of course this is not affected by incinerators). If you have incinerator + recycling + deals capacity equal to or greater than the city's garbage production rate, no garbage will ender the landfills and will thus get empty earlier (bulldoze roads to ensure that this won't happen anyway). As for the accumulation of garbage to the smallest possible are, make some tests and you will see.

Ah, you're right. All the landfills were reduced to a 2x2 block of garbage, never any less I could find.
