This project has been in my mind for so long and now I'm finally starting it!

I'm currently developing strategies on how to BAT it the best way. It's a big and most likely not easy one, being the highest building of the world (when completed in 2008, proposed 700 meters, final height not yet decided, rumors say it could go up to 900 meters which is almost 3000 feet).

Dubai makes a dream I always had come true, now I wanna give something back to the Sim City community.

Wow, I was wondering when this tower would be built, now all we need is Millennium tower and we'll have the 5 tallest buildings in the world!

The Millenium Tower has been built already!!

I'm excited like you! I will make a scale test today to fit the right size properly since the BAT flatens buildings in the renderer.

I will have to do several renders in the end and put them together in the lot editor. Anyone has experience with that for towers?

I also heard there is a problem with the BATs camera if you have very high building, someone knows about that issue?

And again: Can a mod please change the topic name to Dubai instead of Bubai, that's so embarrassing *lol 40.gif

If you need rendering help; I'd be happy to provide you assistance.
The Burj Dubai is something I've been eager to see for a LONG time; I'll do anything I can to help ...
Rendering components and assembling in the Lot Editor is quite a pain; I'd avoid it unless really nessecary.

The resident moderator of this forum does not visit so often; however, I will point out your request.  2.gif

Yeah, it's freakin amazing, isn't it?! Never thought I'd see something high as that so soon!

And you know what guys? It is even getting better!!! They will build a second super-high one in Dubai, former The Pinnacle, supposed to be built on Palm Jumeriah, now renamed to Al Burj (The Tower) and proposed at the base of Palm Jebel. 750 meters / 2500 feet!!  And there are projects for 500m+ towers all over the world!

Busan Lotte Tower, Korea, 465m / 1524ft, 2008 under construction

    Aren't they stunning?!?!

    I'm sooooo excited!!  Yipieeh! 44.gif29.gif39.gif9.gif17.gif

For my Burj Dubai project, I've been getting familiar with the structure and the floor counts of the sections. It's pretty tricky structure until you get how it's made, is like a trick when you discover it, hehe.

Maybe after the Burj, hehe. Or someone else here, so many talented guys around here!

@equinox: Thanks alot for your offering, I appreciate it very much! 44.gif  Do you think my computer could handle to render the whole thing, I have no experience with giant structures in the BAT. My computer specs: Athlon XP 2200, 512MB DDRAM, C:Drive with 6 GB free space, much more space on other partitions (dunno if applicabel at all), Windows XP tuned and super fast running! hehe

Look at the picture of Busan Lotte Tower, just look at how big the base structure of the building is when compared to surrounding buildings. It seems huge.

Also there's no way you'll ever get me on that Ferris Wheel/'London eye' thing, no way at all.

The original proposal was like 1200m
    quote>

Seeing all THOSE buildings puts Sydney to shame. We can't build anything over 235m because of the stupid council who seem to see the skyline as a static entity.

Good thing is though that some land will come on the market within the next few years in the CBD area that will be restricted only to the 330m above sea level imposed by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (planes do fly quite close to the CBD - best introduction to a city you will ever get by flying in, BTW).

Sydney's really held back alot by the restrictive limits. I only hope we can get something monumental in that area limited only by CASA.

I'm living in Sydney at the moment, working right in the CBD as we speak, well type. I was just wondering where this land is that you mention?

I agree with what you say about Sydney being held back, but I find that it is more due to the conservative nature of the architecture used in the city. I know that 126 Phillips Street is quite an original design, but most new buildings aren't anything special.

If andisart builds this I will give him my first born. Another would be the Miglen Beitler tower that was to be built in Chicago in the early 90s. There was a thread about it but I can't seem to find it.

Altauria, wow, haven't got anythig like that yet. I would appreciate that more than you think probably. *lol But not now, let's wait, I'm not ready yet, I won't finish Burj Dubai before I'm ready to take on a newborn. Have you heard it guys, this is gonna be a veeeery long time until the release....     2.gif    *LOL   9.gif17.gif
Anyways, back to buisness, I did a scale test yesterday. This is how it looked:

    5-Einheit-Test.jpg

I figured that I did the base too thick.  Before I did a counting of the floors of each section and during that I had the idea to build the tower seperated and the base. So somehow  I was accidently taking the size of the base for the tower. The tower is gonna be thinner but this high.

I would love to see a comparison how the scale looks ingame. But my first attempts to render were damned to failure, the famus Error 6, the little nerv-gorging darling...

I will most likely have to split the rendering and put the pieces together in the LOT Editor. Anyone who has knowledge and tips about that, please let me know. I will do test with the bland mesh above.  I'm wondering about Spotlights and Omnis, are they going to affect the seperated parts for the rendering if they are in another section? I mean i.e. we have Part A with a spotlight shining up, then part B above part A, getting light from the spot. If I render part B seperated, will the spotlight in part A still have effect on it?

Servan, in my excitement I dug out a screenie of the Millenium Tower for you, the Sky700 is also on it. My Burj Dubai will be about the same height than the Millenium Tower (pictured on the left), which is, like 800 meters.  (I hope the real one will kick the 900 in the end!)

    That looks awesome so far!
512 MB RAM is not enough to render that, lol.
I dunno if my gigabyte will be able to handle it, even.
    Keep up the great work.

(Worst-case scenario I think is that I try to render it and it runs most of the render of virtual memory, which makes the render times go up exponentially ... I'd guess it'd take about 4 to 5 days.  I'd be willing to give the tower that amount of time.)
