    lol Don't feel too bad...! As I already said, this won't be the ONLY possible means of transportation in the whole city. When needed we can still use subway stations - especially since they are so easy to combine with an EL-train network...

    STIMULATING GROWTH

    The building of a new high-capacity bridge over the river was the primary target of the fourth Local Urbanization Plan. The construction was no major problem and was achieved without much delay. The immediate effect of its completion was of course a commercial boom around what had become the main axis of communication across the city.

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//AQ101BR.JPG align=baseline>

    As expected though, the rapid expansion of Ashby Quays led the local government to think that it would take more than a bridge to solve the transit issues getting worse and worse across the city. It was then decided that a mass transit system was absolutely necessary to maintain growth in the area.

    After consulting the local population, the council decided to start building an elevated railway connecting the central area along the canal to the port (westwards) and to the main commercial district (southwards). The first station was quickly built and the first line opened to the public shortly before the 100th anniversary of the foundation of Ashby Quays.

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//AQ10EL.JPG align=baseline>

    On the course of regular development, the news that the railway line would come close provoked a sudden upsurge in land prices on the area facing the university south of the canal. It has now become THE most expensive area in Ashby Quays, and the new trend for corporate offices to establish their luxurious headquarters in the area is not likely to slow down this tremendous success.

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//AQ102.JPG align=baseline>

    As much as this is good news for the local economy, the council started to worry that smaller businesses would not be able to compete with multinationals and that they might not bear the pressure of extremely high prices.
    As a counter measure, the council started developing specifically designated areas where the existing historical buildings could not be destroyed without special authorization, and where all transactions regarding lan ownership would have to be approved by an appointed commission.
    The purpose was to protect old areas of the city retaining a peaceful atmosphere such as this one:
    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//AQ103CV.JPG align=baseline>

     (NOTE: these aren't plopped, at some point - a while ago - they just grew there all at the same time... and I made them historical)

    However not everything is perfect yet in AQ, especially regarding the density of some areas where appropriate measures absolutely must be enforced. For example:
    AQ10BE.JPG

    This area will be the prime target for the next plan, as well as the extension of the railway lines to link more areas into one consistent and effective network.

    Because AQ has reached a population of 100,000 souls, and because it will soon celebrate the 100th anniversary of the foundation of the city, the City has decided to offer the population two brand-new facilities.

    What new facilities should the Council offer to Ashby Quays?
    1. A stadium
    2. A zoo
    3. An airport
    4. A great park
    5. A ringroad (highway)
    6. A new townhall

    The poll is as always accesible via www.langlaufen.nl/poll1.htm  . Because this time there are 6 options to vote, and one poll can only handle 4, I've made 2 polls at the same site. Please vote for both of the polls. Thank you!

    I think a city of 100,000 really needs an airport and a Town Hall is a must.  10.gif

    The airport is vital for securing commercial growth, while the townhall is practically necessary, a town of this size can't get away with not having one. With a large commercial base in the city, we'll be able to get the other facilities in time without much problem.

    Airport and city hall. A city that big desperately needs an airport, and like they said in SC3000, you can't hold city council meetings in the mayor's garage anymore, so city hall.

    Yeah, a city of 100,000 definitely deserves an airport.  And no significant city goes without a great park.

    City hall?  Put them in a portable, they can wait.

    Ashby Quays is going through an unprecedented phase of development - so there is the BIGGEST update so far planned for release tomorrow (20+ pics) as the construction of the el-train network had some pretty amazing (and unexpected) effects...

    I'm surprised that the ringroad got through, but I presume that those two won because of being on their own in a poll...

    ...still, they'll both benefit the city. I expect an airport and stadium to be next but we'll see.

    you are right. This is a bit unfair. I will do following: the winner of each poll will be one of the two winners.

    The final winners are.... the ringroad and the stadium! congratulations!

    Oh wait I have to say that, if you want a kind of fair result next time, please let more people vote. 44.gif

    Good solution. I'd recommend www.freepolls.com for future use, if it weren't for the fact that I tried registering and found that it wouldn't work in that every name, no matter how obscure, was taken... and therefore I'm under the assumption it's no longer taking new free accounts.

    Just found this cj and it really is one of the best around.

    P.S how about an surburban area with heaps of houses(lots). This area should be the suburbs of the city and make it more realistic. Should have a connection with the ringroad and there should be little med commercial on the intersection of the main roads.

    Also, do visit my Cj, Monavale, the boringest place on Earth
