A long time ago - back when we only had a lot editor - Baco made the Bates house and motel.

Though I have the deepest respect for Baco, yours blows that old one out of the water, onlyplace - truly spectacular.

And seeing this is one of the all time classics - and one of my personal favorites - all the better.

    Hello, OnlyPlace4.

I would like to post something eloquently grandiose that would explain how much I like your Bates Mansion and Motel.  However, I believe echoing Mr. Cinatit's words says it best:

OC, you have stepped onto a higher plane when it comes to your BATting skills.  The Bates Mansion modeling is exquisite -- absolutely breathtakingly beautiful.

Thank you for sharing this great beauty.

    ====oOo====

    Now, on to another subject.

First of all, I would like to thank you for the wonderful Wild West series you've been giving us.  I have thoroughly enjoyed it and continue to "play" with it in a test environment for the time but have great plans for its use.

Secondly, I am very pleased with your City Walls and Moats.  Again, these are just gorgeous and quite useful.  There are a number of placed I am testing them and plan to use them.

Finally, I REALLY enjoy the desert series you are introducing.  The Small Desert Fort is great -- very innovative and quite unique!  Also, your Desert Adobe Houses are absolutely wonderful!!  I have been looking for something like this for quite some time now and have so many thoughts for their use -- specifically, as ancient housing to use in a CJ I am creating.

With some of your city walls (no moats in the desert) and using the fort and adobe housing, one can create a very nice desert fortress.  I can tell you, it looks really great.

I would be quite interesting in seeing you continue your desert theme and would be VERY INTERESTED in more adobe houses -- the more variety, the better.

Thanks again, OC, for sharing your great talent with us.

    Regards,

    Vandy

In the end you will see, You is you and me is me.

Funny you should mention the desert stuff Vandy as I have just uploaded a pack with the props of the first three adobe houses and the small fort for people just like you to make their own lots using them 9.gif And I have a few more desert buildings on the drawing board so to speak ... just finding the time to get around to deal with them all ... anyone got a gizmo to stretch a day to 48 hours? lol

I am very flattered by your comments 43.gif but I get my enjoyment from the game by being able to build these models. Mind you, next to some of the, dare I say it, 'veteran' BATters, I've still a way to go ... but I'm not about to slow down or give up. Heck, that would mean I would have to get a real life!!!! lol

Guess I should 'advertise' the props now huh?

    Desert Props volume 1

At the specific request of tzotzil99, here's a pack containing props for my Small Desert Fort and the three Adobe houses I have previously released on the STEX. You can find these props ... here.

    day.jpgnight.jpg

As always, if you use the props in any files you release, please do not include the props within your release, but rather point your dependency to the file on the STEX. Thanks.

    Small Desert Outpost

Continuing my sometimes series of desert buildings, here is a small outpost fort that would have protected some far-flung corner of some long forgotten empire from the rampaging hordes of the locals! This outpost is presented here as a 2x2 Landmark Lot and a Prop for you to be able to build your own custom lots. You can find this one ... here.

    day.jpgnight.jpg

If you use the prop file in any lots you release please do not inlcude the prop with the release but instead point your dependency to the file on the STEX. Thank you.

    Merchants House

One more in my growing series of desert buildings, this is a typical Merchants House, though the merchant who would live in a house like this would certainly be one of the better off ones. This Merchants House is presented here as a 2x1 landmark lot and a prop of the building for you to use in your own custom lots. You can find the file on the STEX ... here.

    day.jpgnight.jpg

If you use the prop file in any lots you release please do not inlcude the prop with the release but instead point your dependency to the file on the STEX. Thank you.

    Growable version

At the request of alkaola I have done a R$$ growable version of the Merchants House with two lots included - R$$3 2x2 and R$$4 2x3. You can find this verion on the STEX ... here.

    Flags of the USA (props)

Following on from the interest shown in the confederate and union flags I released for my Wild West series, here is a prop pack containing 52 flags of the USA, these being the 50 states plus the District of Columbia and the USA flag itself. Each flag can be found in the Lot Editor with the prefix Flag_US, so for Texas you would need Flag_US Texas. I have done this as I intend to do more flags, and they will all have a similar prefix (i.e. Flag_UK) so you can easily identify them within the lot editor. You can find this prop pack on the STEX ... here.

    flags.jpg

If you use any of these flags in lots you release please do not include this file with your release without my permission, but instead please point your dependency to the file on the STEX. Thank you.

    Flags of Canada (props)

Well I had to didn't I? lol You can find this file on the STEX ... here.

The flags contained in this prop file are:

    Canadian National Flag

    Acadia

    Alberta

    British Columbia

    Manitoba

    New Brunswick

    Newfoundland

    Northwest Territories

    Nova Scotia

    Nunavut

    Ontario

    Prince Edward Island

    Quebec

    Saskatchewan

    Yukon

They are all prefixed Flag_Canada in the Lot Editor so they should be easy to find!

Usual comments regarding the use of props. Thanx.

    Pasha Ali's Palace

Continuing my series of desert inspired models we have here a 4x4 Landmark lot of Pasha Ali's Palace, a regal adobe palace fit for, well, a Pasha named Ali! For those who are thinking "What's a Pasha?", Wikipedia says:

    Pasha (or
    pascha
    ,
    bashaw
    ; Turkish:
    pa?a
    ) originally from Persian
    padshah
    or
    padeshah
meaning "king") was a high rank in the Ottoman Empire political system, typically granted to governors and generals. As an honorary title, "Pasha" is roughly equivalent to "Sir". Pashas ranked above beys and Aghas, but below khedives and viziers.

You can find this on the STEX ... here.

    day.jpgnight.jpg

PS: You've probably noticed that the last few of my releases have had custom icons ... next on the list to learn, custon queries!

making custom queries isn't hard to learn, I recommend using EQ's custom query toturial. It took me an hour to learn it

That Bates mansion is amazing!  Reminds me of all the old captians mansions from the shipping era in the Great Lakes.

Although the desert theme is not my personal preference, I must say they look great.  I love the lighting!

If you need any help with queries, PM and let me know... rumor has it, I'm getting fairly good at that stuff.

Some neat stuff here. The desert series, the wildwest and the bates house/motel? All unique ideas. Well done. One thought on the desert series, often desert settlements were built around a source of water. Any thought of doing a desert well?

    Flags of Canada Provincial (props)

This is a prop file containing 31 provincial flags of Canada as listed below. Each flag can be found in the Lot Editor with the prefix Flag_Canada, so for Ottawa you would need Flag_Canada Ottawa. This set of flags has been made at the specific request of spa, 1ajs and samjam (to name but three). You can this file on the STEX ... here.

The flags contained in this prop file are:

    Calgary, Alberta

onlyplace4, in the "Worst Building" thread, you said you were going to BAT the ugly OCAD building, and I was just wondering if that was a serious statement or not, and I figured this was a more appropriate place to ask/bring it up than in that thread.

I am seriously considerig it, yes. I am collecting a load of images at the moment, but what seems to be in short supply is any detail of the building beneath the OCAD as this would need to be modelled too. But, yes, I will be modelling it, though I need more info on the 'base' buidling before I can.

    Wild West Upper School

As the children grew older and the town continued to grow, a new school was built to cater for the older children so they could learn useful things like: how to avoid posse duty; how to drink two fingers of red-eye without gagging or coughing; how to rustle steers; and all those aspects vital to the education of a young CowSim.

This 3x3 lot has the same effect as a normal high school. You can find this one on the STEX ... here.

    day.jpgnight.jpg

No prop with this one ... sorry ... that will come in a mega pack I am currently putting together for release in the next week (or so).

I am planning two quite individual BATs. One is the OCAD simply because it is so darn UGLY! The other is the Turning Torso tower in Malmo. I hope that the latter will become my 100th release 9.gif If you want to see what this building looks like go here.

onlyplace4: I think these pages/images might help with some of that...

This one is a pre-construction design plan (the final building atleast does not have the brutally ugly OCAD sign on it, phew). This image is easy to find, but these are almost all really small...

This site also has some pictures although they are not done landscaping underneath yet...

This site has some too, nice shots from underneath...

Here is one that sort of shows the site plan:

Thank you for the kind comments Cobb. You're stuff is truly great and original too. I love the underground complex. When I saw the word Troglodyte I was immediately reminded that that was what my late mother used to call my brother who never came out of his pit ... I mean ... room! 9.gif

    Wild West Wells Fargo

Continuing the burgeoning Wild West series, here is a small Wells Fargo stop that, naturally enough, acts like a buss stop in game. This 1x1 lot handles half the traffic of a normal bus stop, after all, just how many poeple can you cram into a stage coach? You will naturally enough find this one in your transport menus. You can find this one on the STEX ... here.

    day.jpgnight.jpg

    Wild West Power House

Every town needs a power source, and this model (a remodelled and reworked version of the power plant from my Slaytfork Mill BAT) serves the purpose adequately. As a wood burner this plant produces just 2,500 MWh, and consequently doesn't pollute as much as a coal burning power plant. When the power plant has reached the end of it's life it won't explode, but it's still best to place it a little way away from your Sims! Power plants of this nature were common towards the end of the 19th century, and continue in use in remote areas to this day. You will find this lot in your power menu. You will find this one on the STEX ... here.

OnlyPlace4: You do know that a comment of any kind from Vandy, is like a rare thing. He only speaks when something wise and useful can be said.

You are turning into a Simtrop Celeb, eh OP?

The desert props and textures are very well detailed. They could go nicely with your WildWest Series, which is still my favorite. hehee.

Been rating and commenting on your STEX uploads too. Check it out, when you have some fre time.

a WW Power House! Absolutely convincing OP4!!! Good colors for a nice swath of variety!

Thank you, thank you, thank you. It's comments like these that make it all the more worthwhile. For my 100th upload I am reworking, remodelling and retexturing my Slaytfork Mill model, this time to be an overhanging lot that you can plop next to ingame water 9.gif The final render is going on as we speak, and I already have the lot designed. However, I will still need to test the power generation of the lot, do the custom icon (about 3 minutes) and I may have a look at adding jobs (even though it will be a Landmark lot) and a custom GUI. I hope to have the upload ready sometime tomorrow 9.gif

Once again many thanks for all your kind comments. They are greatly appreciated.

If only I knew how to BAT like that. I love how the lighting goes out through the windows, and I can't believe you're going to do the OCAD building in Toronto. It would be interesting to see the comments on the STEX. Great work, as usual.

I am in the process of writing a complete guide to gmax and the BAT which I will probably host on one of my own sites to saves ST bandwidth. This will be as complete as I can make it, taking you from the very first steps of installation, right up to complex modelling using splines. It will also deal with texturing, lighting, exporting etc., and will, I hope, be as complete a guide as anyone has ever produced, and along the lines of the type of guide Maxis should have provided users with anyway! If there is enough demand I will compile the html pages (though the site will be php run) into a stand alone executable that people can download and run on their PCs.

However, don't hold your breath. This is a long project and I don't foresee it seeing the light of day before the end of June (at the earliest).

I have started on the OCAD building now that I have gathered enough reference material, but I am still missing a shot that shows the roof in detail, so if anyone has one I would be more than grateful! I will keep you posted on progress 9.gif

Here's an aerial view I found on emporis... Couldn't find any others on google or Yahoo. I think this will be good though:

edit: the first time I tried a direct link to emporis, I guess they don't allow that. So here is the image I tried to post.

    276767.jpg276767.jpg

What may also be helpful is to google a satellite image map... search "115 mccaul toronto"... It zooms in enough to see the basic layout from overhead, and the relative positioning with respect to the ground level main building. You get something like this at the closest zoom:

    ugly1.jpg

Do you need pictures of the main building as well, ie: the building that it is halfway over top of? Hope this helps.
