Welcome to the onlyplace4 BAT/Lot/whatever showcase here on SimTrop. Here I will post details of BATs/Lots I am working on, and will announce their release. I have some 40 BATs/Lots on the STEX already (which can be found here. This thread, however, is for new stuff, and not stuff released prior to the start of the thread.

Wild West

I am producing a whole series of models based around the Wild West. You can find details of this series here. This thread will continue, and I will announce new stuff in that theme there, with a brief notice here, though that notice will usually be part of a general post so as not to duplicate material and waste space and time.ft>

Edit 24 March 2006: I am going to let the Wild West Thread mentioned in the highlight above die and post all relevant information in this thread.

Sawmill

I have been working for some time on a very large sawmill BAT and, as I write this, this is undergoing it's final render on my back-up PC. I hope it will be released this coming weekend (March 11/12), but this depends on many factors, one of these being the render itself. Keep your fingers crossed. Details will be posted here and in the sawmill thread which you may find here. Once the mill has been completed, any further logging projects will be posted here.

To get things started I have just posted a water tower from the sawmill as a separate ploppable that acts in the same way as a water pump .. .this is to say it produces 20,000 cu m/month rather than the standard 2,400 cu m/month the in-game tower produces. You can find this tower here. And a couple of pics to keep you going too 9.gif

    Logging/Sawmill Office

Just released on the STEX is this 1x2 Landmark Lot that is taken from the much larger sawmill project. With this you can give the logging company an office in town. I have made this a landmark lot as I think only people who download the large mill will want to use it, and as such it would be pointless making it into a growable.

You can find this lot here.

As always a couple of pics to keep you going.

    Slaytfork Mill

Well it's finished and on the STEX. This model represents 3 weeks modelling, around 500,000 polygons and a final render that took almost 17 hours! It's kinda large at 9 tiles wide by 20 tiles deep, but it looks really good located in the middle of a densely forrested area.

The Mill produces its own power and water, so you don't have to hook it up to these services. In fact the mill can even be used to supply water to neighbouring structures, thoguh for some reason it does not supply it's excess power.

Edit: Thanx to Andreas Roth for pointing out that Lot with power and water can cause problems. As a result this Lot now only powers itself. Water can, of course, be supplied from my Logging Water Tower which you can find in the STEX here.

The two train lines are both transit enabled, though when a train passes over the log dump (at the far end of the mill pond), the train will turn green as it is passing over a part of the model, and I have not yet found a way to stop this from happening.

You can find the mill on the STEX here.

Some day and night pictures for you:

Due to the fact that some of my files have disappeared into the ether off of the STEX I am going to take this opportunity to update them BEFORE I put them back (I have put SimSoft back as this is a relatively new BAT and does not need updating). Once I have updated and uploaded the revised BATs I am then going to take a look through the ones that are still on the STEX and revamp some of them as necessary. This will, of course, take a little time, so there will be very little new stuff from me for a while, but don't fret, I will be back into full modelling mode sometime next week 9.gif

Edit: Forgot the pics of Simsoft lol

    Nicely done.

I must say, from little barns and a water tower..........to a massively large scale Mill, that is quite impressive. From the pics the textures look good and I really like your choice of nightlighting (its not overdone, its just enough for good effects).

I shall have to download this from the STEX to see it at a little closer perspective.

Ok, I need to ask you guys for a little help. I am experiencing some conflicts amongst a few of my lots and wonder if anyone else is getting these or similar problems. For example, if I have my 4 gallows lot in my plugins folder I cannot plop my Wild West bank as the gallows model shows up on that lot instead. I am, of course, going to be looking at all the lots/BATs I have done over the next few days, but if you have had any similar problems I would welcome hearing about them. I am aware of the problem with one of my Wild West Alleys, and seem to have this cured (I hope).

If the parent cohort of your ploppable lot is anything but 0x00000000/0x00000000/0x00000000, that's the problem.

Hmmmmmm ... that didn't seem to help ... one of the cohorts was incorrect for the gallows, but updating it did not seem to corect the problem. Think my best alternative is to rebuild the lots I have problems with, and then compile them into dat files, and see if that fixes it. Thanx for the help though ... much appreciated 9.gif

It shouldn't matter at all whether you keep them separate or compile them to DAT files. What counts is the parent cohort and the ID of the model. If two models share the same ID, then both might appear on the lot of the other model that shares the ID, or one model suppresses the other one.

For a ploppable lot, there shouldn't be much to merge anyway since the desc file gets merged with the lot file automatically, unlike with growables.

Technically, all files are DAT files anyway - you could freely interchange the extensions .sc4model, .sc4lot, .sc4desc and .dat. In fact, you could give any extension you like - .pinkbubble, for example. It would work.

Thanks for the info T Wrecks. I'll do a thorough investigation tomorrow when I am a) more awake and b) can be bothered lol One question though ... if a ploppable lot has the desc compiled into it, is it necessary to keep the desc, or can that be discarded?

That's what I was getting at: As soon as you have a lot file for a ploppable or landmark, scrap the desc. Not only is it not required any longer, but it can can even cause confusion. Let's say you want to change some stats of the finished building. You go into the desc file and change them. However, since a copy of the old stats remains in the lot file, which ones does the game choose? Maybe the new ones, maybe the old ones... that's the problem.

Glad to be of some help once in a while... since BATting myself is not an option for me, I gotta find other ways to give something back to the community I take so much enjoyment from. 2.gif

Well I'll tell you, the amount of enjoyment I have derived since I became a member is immeasurable, and if I had the money I would have bought Dirk the upgrade hardware myself ... and even then I would have been getting the better deal!

BATting not an option? 47.gif dayum ... you know so much about all the background stuff I feel sure any BATs you produced would be mind-boggling! If you ever have a BAT idea you want to see become reality please give me a holla and I'll be only too happy to see what I can come up with. 9.gif

A new pack of props has just been uploaded to the STEX made from all the junk I modelled for my Slaytfork Mill BAT. I'll edit this to show the URL of the props pack when it appears on the STEX.

    New BAT on the STEX

    Wild West Shotgun House

A low wealth residential unit that is available in six versions as 1x2 Landmark Lots (growables of all the houses will follow real soon). These houses were quick to build and so-called as it was perceived that if you fired a shotgun at the front door, it would pass straight through the house and out the back!

Fantastic textures OnlyPlace! We call the straight shooters, shotgun houses. That would be the Appalachian area of Ohio.
Erie canal ran through here and early citizens built them. lining the canal blocks on very narrow lots.

I like the weathered wood; very realistic and needed in SC4. Adds a bit of spice/variety.

First Pack of Wild West Growables on the STEX

Yep, you read it right, there are now growable versions of the first three house types uploaded to the STEX and available for you all to download! 9.gif

    The three house types are:

    Wild West House 1 - in two variants, a 1x3 R$2 and 2x3 R$4

Wild West Shingle Clad House - a single 2x2 R$1 variant

Wild West Shotgun House - in six 1x2 R$1 variants

That all important link to the STEX ... click here

Please be aware that having 6 variants, the Shotgun House can spawn at an incredible rate in a new city, and you could well end up with whole tracts of these houses. Each variant comes as it's own unique .dat file, so you can pick and chose which ones you want to spawn.

    Links to the ploppable versions:

    Two answers:

    1. Yep, the houses are up and on the STEX.

    2. The roofs are rusted corrugated steel on the Shotgun Houses.

There will be new versions of the four growables on the STEX in the next few days, rescaled so that they conform better to the Maxis scale, and not the scale of the ploppables.

    Island Cottage

Now available on the STEX for you to download is Island Cottage which comes as a 2x3 Landmark Lot and a 2x3 R$$ growable. As a bonus, so that you can built your own lots with this lovely little building I have included a Prop file in the zip too 9.gif

Island Cottage is based on a design by the architect Micale R McLeod. Deatils of this cottage can be found at: http://www.southerncottages.com/island.html.

    day.jpgnight.jpg

I am going to find myself a nice plot of land somewhere and then order these plans.

Over the next few days I will be modelling the alternative form of this house which has a garage beneath the house.

You can find this BAT on the STEX at: https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?id=15286.

    Scaling

Over the next week or so I am going to be busy rescaling all my previous lots so that they better conform to the Maxis sense of scale, and not the true scale they were made in. This will also give me the opportunity to update a few of the textures etc. I will not be rescaling the Slaytfork Mill lot, or the associated props packs as this mill seems to work. However, the mill office and water tower, which were released as stand-alone BATs will be rescaled, as will all the Wild West series. All future models will be built only in 'Maxis' scale.

Sorry if this means that some of you will have to download stuff twice, but I think it is necessary so that the stuff I make fits into the overall feel of the game.

Re-scaled Wild West House Type 1

The first of my mammoth re-scaling job has been completed and now conform to 'Maxis scale'. This is the Type 1 House from the Wild West Series and it is now available as a 1x2 R$$4 Lot and three, yes three 1x3 R$$3 Lots. As a special bonus there is also a Prop file of the house included in the zip file so you can make your own lots with this House, though if you do please do not include the Prop file with any upload, but rather point people to the file on the STEX.

The new version of this house can be found on the STEX at: https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?id=15299

    day.jpgnight.jpg

As far as the re-scaling of my other lots goes, I am going to re-scale all the growables, then look at what could or could not be offered as a growable. Those that could will be re-scaled, those that can't, won't. If you have any particular requests for rescaled versions of any of my lots (excludig the Slaytfork Mill), please either add them to this thead, or PM me.

Wild West Shotgun House - Growable

Originally released in a larger scale as a ploppable Landmark for the Wild West Series, this model of a typical Shotgun house has been scaled down to better match the scaling of other growable buildings with SC4. It is now available on the STEX as six R$ 1x2 Lots (one per version of the house), three R$ 1x3 Lots (each containing two houses), and six props for you to build your own lots using this building. Please note that you will need to make sure that the Prop file is installed in order for the R$ 1x3 Lots to work correctly.

If you use the Props within your own Lots that you then release, please DO NOT include the Prop file with your release, but instead point users to the file on the STEX. Thank you.

Okay you have sold me OnlyPlace4. I need to get this entire Western series for myself! These are absolute coolness!

I am tempted to give you my 6pack of worn painted weathered wood fence, to play around with.

The white wash color on them, is perfect for the old West era.
Besides nobody is buying them at TS. Which did not surprise me much.

Tell me your e-mail, if it is not in your profile and I will let you do whatever you want with them?
