Wow! I spent about a week going through the whole journal. I never thought it would be this long. But well enjoyed time though.

Yep sometimes we do! but we're already at 2.10 meters (that's almost 7 feet!) right now, I think that we could use a break right now, at least for a couple of weeks!

    Happy new year to you!

    PhilsCafe

    Bonjour Phil,

C'est vraiment bien de te lire!

Good to see you my friend!

Well RL is always first in my book too! I hope all your exams went well and that you are fine.

As for not playing in a while, look no further, after the mosaics I didn't do NOTHING, except play the guitar of course, and going to a concert on my christmas vacations in Florida far from the snow... See the pic below...

Phil je te souhaite une très bonne année 2008 et puisse tu obtenir tout le succès que tu mérite!

    Take care my friend

    -John

    taka2K

    Hi taka2K

I'm honored that you chose to make your first post in AVR.

And if you are interested in terraforming, you should also look for Jeroni's, David (dedgren) and Jacqulina's work, they really are great! I mention those three, but you have a lot of others who are doing a fantastic job on that topic. Just look around and you'l find!

    Happy new year!

    Yoman3

    Hey Owen,

Thanks for the good wishes, allow me to raise a glass of Bowmore to your health for the comming year! May it be good for you!

    Hi Phil,

Thanks for your good wishes my friend.

I certainly hope that you had a great holliday period, and I wish you the very best for 2008!

As you can see, I spent some time away from the snow on the hollidays, first time in my life.... and I liked it! That picture was taken in front of the House of Blues in Downtown Disney in Orlando Florida, it was 84 degree farenheit (far from the minus 18 celcius when we left...) it was simply great, exhausting.... but great.

To each and every one of you I wish the best there is for 2008!

Take care and enjoy life! 10.gif

LOL! Great pic, John! I hope you enjoyed Florida! I spent time away from the snow, but not the cold. I went to DC, and it was a lot warmer, but not 83F!

    Hey John,

Yes, my holidays went very well this (well technically last) year. It was one of the better ones in recent memory, probably since I got to enjoy more free time than I usually do over the vacation. 9.gif Nice picture too, I bet the warm weather took a while to get used to! I'm used to hot and cold temperatures, I get them both where I live. Anyway I hope you had an awesome time over in Florida, and that 2008 is a great year for you.

    John, hey.

...I thought I'd wait a week or so to see if this AVR was just a passing fad or something...

    * * *

Well, so here you are in 2008.  I find myself coming back every week or so, like that poor dog in Pavlov's lab, lookin' for that Friday fix of new stuff.  We are just going to have to find something for you to do.

...wonder what that might be?  Heh!

Have a great new year, my friend!

    David

    Hey Nicks,

Well... more cold than snow these days,

going from minus 15 to minus 32 almost every day.

Though we do have small snowfalls, 15 centimeters tuesday, I even damaged the auger gearbox on my snowblower, the impeller caught a small rock and send it flying onto the gearbox case, wich cracked and lost its oil... before I knew it, the bearing overheated and froze solid! SHEESH.... Another repair bill to pay!

Oh well... the florida sun is only a memory...

    Take care

    -John

    The Big Z

Yep We really did enjoy our Florida vacations, the only drawback, is having to live with the cold weather now.... sigh...

    -John

    ky72x

    Hi Kyle

Hehehe.... I'd have to say that the reverse is true, it took a while to get used to the cold weather when we came back... cold to hot weather is quite easy, but the reverse.... well....

Thanks for your good wishes, and I may you also have a great year!

    -John

    superchad

    Hi Superchad,

well, technically AVR's now finished, just kept it open to answer reader's questions if any. And perhaps once in a while posting some pics of ongoing experiments...

    See you

    dedgren

    David,

A fad... well I guess you're right, look at all the new content in Simtrop... And good one too...

Being on a slower track though have some fringe benefits! I have a more "relaxed" life right now, no "update pressure" and no "blank page" syndrome... for now...

As for Pavlov's dog, last time I've heard he was doing good, save the fact that, like old boxing champs, he's always hearing bells... go figure...

Something to do you say! Hummm....

I guess we'll see that this year, won't we....

Wishing you the best for the new year

    Take care my friend.

    -John

    sobol

    Hey Sobol,

I'll be back somewhere in the future, when? I still don't know.

But I'll be playing the game again don't worry.

I do have some ideas, I'm just not ready yet.

I do need a prolonged break from CJ'ing after those 34 months of taking care of AVR.

What I miss most is the interaction with the readers.

    Have a great year 2008

    Take care

Nothing new on the SC4 front, haven't played for a while, if I do I'll post some pics...

    Have a great week everyone.

    In the meantime,

Take care and enjoy life 10.gif

    Hey Darmok,

    Glad to hear from you.

Funny thing I realized the other day. While following AVR, I played alot of SC4RH.... But now I am back to Playing DoW and SM's Pirates (two favorites of mine). As soon as you return and inspire us again, I am sure I will pick up SC4RH.

Until then though I will watching for my subscription update to this thread.

    Sincerely,

    -Sobol

    sobol

    Hi sobol,

Variety in games is a good thing, sometimes our best SC4 ideas come from other sources! I know I picked some of mine just by paying attention to my surroundings while traveling...

You went through AVR all over again! Man! You're really patient!

    Take care buddy!

    John

    bbfan02

    Hi bbfan,

Sorry to say that there's still no new pictures... though I must say that I did play for about an hour or so the other day, but nothing good came out of it, I was checking some ideas for some rural road, I guess I was not really in the mood...

    See you!

    Benedict

Hey Benedict, you know something, an acquired taste is very often something you'll appreciate for a very long time compared to something that is an instant success.

And in any case as far as I'm concerned, Ellis Valley is a classic amongst classics!

    Take care

    John

    Nardo69

    Bernhard!

Glad to hear from you man!

As I said in the last mail call, what I miss more, is the weekly interaction with the readers, AVR in itself as lived it's life and I'm not sorry it's finished, I'll have to tackle something new in a near future... when those new ideas will mature... if ever... hehehe...

Hoping that all is well in your corner of the world.

Warmest regards to you and your wife.

    Take care

    -John

    Silur

    Hi Nicks

Well, no update but a simple mail call, as I said to bbfan, I did play the game for an hour or so but nothing to show for it. It really was early experimentation and not very pretty, just trying to build on rather flat land... which is not my forte.... I really was not pleased with the result so I flushed everything.

Don't worry, as soon as I've got something that I fell is OK I'll post some pictures.

    Have a great week

    John

In the meantime, while I don't have SC4 pics, here's one of our small blues band, in our studio, hummm a basement really!...

remember this, perhaps one day we'll be famous! hehehe.... Yeah that'll be the day!

    gnutslivebsmt800eg9.jpg

    Don't laugh too hard!

    In the meantime,

Wow lol, very cool this thing finally got finished. I haven't been around for awhile but the last 140 pages or so (lol) that I missed were impressive. I remember it when it started 2 or 3 years ago (I have a post on the first page lol).

Cool picture of the buried car to. We're getting pounded over in the west too. There's about 3 or 4 feet on my back porch-very good for hittin up some skiing lol.

I look forward to your next project...

Hi, I dont know how to use the diagonal filler. I put the files in the pluggins folder, and I have the fillers in the plazas and parks menu, but I cannot place them on top of the diagonal avenues. Can you please help me? Thanks,

John- Congrats on three years a few days ago (the 4th) of the best CJ ever.  I'm over here every few days continuing to strip-mine your ideas doing more research, and I'm always rewarded with some detail I didn't run off with notice before.

Who's that guy with the guitar at the end?  Didn't he teach Hendrix his licks or something?

    Later, my friend.

    Voulpiotis

    Hi Constantinos,

    Thanks for stoppin' by.

Rest assured that I'll keep everyone informed as to when I'll start something new...

    See you

    bobinator

    I just can't believe it!

    Bob...

Indeed you were one of the early posters in AVR, it really is a long time since I last read you.

Hehehe... the snow is still comming down here, since friday we recieved another 40 to 50 centimeters (14 to 16 inches) more than we already had... we're on the verge to break a 25 year old record!

And yes the skiers here are in snow heaven! As for the rest of us poor slobs.... we shovel and wish for it to go away!

Good seeing you Bob, take care!

    j.silva.soares

Welcome to AVR Mr Soares, that's a Portuguese name isn't it?

Well, those pieces  are not made to go "on top" of the avenue (or road for that matter) pieces, but rather, they are created to "fill in" the "sawtooth" pattern left whe we create diagonales avenues or road...

And you can also use the straight pieces to create larger walkways along the avenues...

Look at the picture below, perhaps it'll help you... if not just tell me I'll try to do a more complete tutorial about them... but they really are quite easy to work with they are very simple lots.

    Here's the pic

    fillerbxi6.jpg

    Silur

    Hi Nicks,

I've been experimenting with the new rural highway this weekend, between two snow shoveling and snow blowing sessions... hehehe... but the results are not what I expected, so no pictures yet, I still have to learn to connect in a good way with the new exit pieces, which by the way are really great looking, I just can't get a good looking transition between them ant either road and streets... oh well back to the drawing board.

As for links to our music... we are currently working on one "original", (yeah I guess that "original" is the right word), piece, and as soon as we'll record an acceptable version I'll let you know. Mostly we're trying several genre, not only blues, but rock and sometimes heavy rock... (yeah heavy it is...) hehehe...

    Take care

    sobol

    Hi sobol,

what are those missing files you're talking about?

Are there any broken links in AVR? If so give me the page number and I'll see what I can do, I have kept all pictures.

    See you

    dedgren

    David,

thanks for the reminder about the anniversary, it slipped my mind.

Hey, strip mine as much as you like... I know I do...where do you think I get my best ideas for terraforming rivers??? Hehehe... I know a great CJ where you can get a lot of great ideas.

The guy with the guitar is an old coot who think he can play music... yeah well... no wonder his band mates are calling him "Old venerable", I guess they want to be kind to him. As for teaching Hendrix a few tricks... Don't I wish.

Take care and regards to the family.

    -John

    bbfan02

    Hi Kyle,

Glad you like the banner, I made it as a prototype for our future band website... (if ever).

Those pictures were really taken in a basement, which is a music real studio btw.

Are we good... some nights we are, the rest of the time... well... let's say that you never go wrong when you play "your" music... hehehe..

    Thanks for asking

    Take care

    Benedict

    Hey Ben,

You know something, when you get down to a good definition of what a City Journal is supposed to be, yours and all the story driven CJ are the best, the rest, as good as they may be, mine included, are more pictures galleries than CJ's, don't get me wrong though, I really like those as well not having the time (sadly) to read all the good story CJ's I'm mostly looking at pictures that reading, save some exceptions.

    As for the support, how

    Hello John,

I like the banner of your band! Very cool. Music is a great thing to be involved it, whether it be a school band (like me) or garage/basement bands (like you). It's really tons of fun, I'm sure you'd agree!

.. is it coincidence that my friend John is posting in AVR not on a friday but a monday ...

... not on an ordinary monday but the day my wife gave birth to my son ...

    Take care my friend! 44.gif
