I have no idea how to use the existing features, as those features I was so familiar with have been renovated so much that I can't even find where the BAT forums are. Quite confusing.

I'm sure if Dirk wanted to, he could. But there are priorities and unfortunately that's probably far down on the list. Functionality is better than personal preference and, while it's a shame we can't have every little tidbit sorted and organized to our exact likings that's life. Learn to live with it. I'm sorry to say this but you have no idea how snobbish you sound. Coming out so... brashly, demanding that Dirk do this, Dirk do that. He's put countless hours into this, staying up until 2am or later (although that's normal for him apparantly. ) on weekdays. That's dedication to Simtropolis. It's discouraging for him to come on here and see posts like yours demanding that he do your bidding for your personal benefit. So just... be patient. The site isn't even fully up yet.quote>

AMEN!  Oh, and beebs?  Thank you sooooo much for changing your avatar...it was...disturbing. face-icon-small-tongue.gif  To those saying we shouldn't be silencing the knaves, if you'll notice, we don't just randomly say, NO CRTIZIM!!!1111  But when somebody comes along with a long list of his personal prefrences, and appearently is demanding that the maker of this FREE site change them to his liking, it kinda gets us a lil ticked, because we love dirk and the admins and don't like to see their hard FREE work bad mouthed when they themselves said that it isn't finished yet.  So, Silence, Knaves!

Wait now I don't like where this thread is heading.....

Who says we are whiners?

If I would have been warned I'd move alot of my "private" messages elsewhere, but like alot of people I thought they were safe and sound....

So I did nothing....

Anyway change is a pain, but we all grow used to it so I'll grow used to it....

but you gotta agree alot of stuff was changed without warning or any proir knowlegde....

Uhm, there was a giant notice on the old boards that asked for help for our upgrade, which also linked to a thread in which I explained that a massive upgrade and data migration was coming.

With all due respect, fellow members, I do not work around your schedules, I cannot cater to all your personal preferences, I do what I feel is the best for the site as a whole, and when the day comes that I have the opportunity to make the change (I also have a very busy life), I take that opportunity.  I cannot afford to wait around and make sure everyone understands the impact of the pending changes.

Thanks for all the support, I appreciate all the constructive criticism - in fact we have already started collecting a list of the most frequently requested changes and alteration.

However, the admins and myself have worked very hard the past few days, and I won't suffer any overblown senses of entitlement from those members who think we are here to serve them personally.

A PNG is not the end of the world.  A signature is not the end of the world.

Just.  Friggin'.  Relax.

It seems that a lot of people don't really appreciate what Dirk and the other admins have done for us.  Well, for all of the people that think that losing some PMs or the ability to use png's or having a character limit on your sig is bad, well sit tight and keep reading.

I likewise lost my PMs and my avatar, but the trade-off was a brand-new ST.  I'd make that trade any day of the week.  Keep reading, because what I lost doesn't stop there.

I'm not really going to be able to make signatures for other members anymore because of the character limit.  I really enjoyed making signatures for the other members here.  But we have a new ST, and now we aren't really going to have to worry about members having sigs that take up a quarter of the page.  But keep reading, cause it goes on.

If the new Omnibus no longer supports HTML code, all of the SHS members and admins will have to reformat the Omnibus to work with the new system.  That will mean that we will probably be learning new formatting codes.

But here is the real thing that I don't think any of the members here can claim they lost.  I wrote a tutorial that was easily 3 times the size of a normal Omnibus upload.  I wrote it so that the new members wouldn't have the same trouble that I did when I joined and had to learn how the site worked.  Because ST has undergone is massive change, the entire thing will have to be rewritten.  That is several weekends of work gone.  But I don't care that it is gone.  We have a new forum system and with it, Dirk has given me the oppurtunity to make an even better tutorial.  In fact, I'm even glad that it is gone!

I'm not going to ask any of you to feel sorry for me.  I don't want anyone to.

I would like to use the remainder of this post to say one thing.

THANK YOU DIRK!

You've given us so much of your time, your energy, your own hard earned money, and you've hardly asked for anything in return.

Remember guys, membership may have been what got ST to the position of number one SC4 fansite on planet earth, but if it hadn't been for Dirk and the admins, there wouldn't be an ST to make the number one SC4 fansite in the world.

I want to do what I can to help this site stay number one, and anyone that doesn't want to help by peaceful and constructive means should do exactly what Dirk said, and "Just...Friggin'...Relax!"

Relax!!! How? lol ... only joking! 2.gif As a relative newcomer to this site I have to say that I think, given the enormity of the task at hand, that Dirk has done a bloody marvellous job. Sure some features don't work yet, and that's the operative word ... YET! Having been through this process several times myself over the last few years on the sites I run (notice no blatant advertsising here 2.gif ), I fully appreciate just what Dirk has done, and what a damn good job he's done of it too! We all have our own personal preferences, sure, but at the end of the day, unless we are prepared to put our money where our mouth is we do not have the right to complain about what are, at the end of the day, piffling matters compared with the overall appearance and, more importantly, performance of the site. As Dirk says, a PNG or a sig is not the end of the world. The end of the world is, apparently, the four horsemen of the Apocalypse riding up from the depths of Hell at Armageddon, and on that cue, I'm a geddon outta here!!! 2.gif (OK, so that was bad, but I've only just got up and the last surviving brain cell has yet to kick in 3.gif)

I have another problem, I can't write in different characters like Greek now.

By the way, what does the 'ICQ #' do?

If you have ICQ you simply put your ICQ ID number here and that will show up on your profile so that other people can contact you using ICQ.

If it will ease some of you, sig limits will be increased... 2.gif  And yes, there may be a better message editor, to boot.  But what we have right now is out-of-th-box for the most part and it works.  We can improve it when everything else is back online.

And Voar, we'll talk about reworking your massive tutorial, it's going to be needed for sure...

Thanks everyone, I might have been just a wee bit cranky at the time of my last post, but I'm over all really pleased how things are turning out... Again, just stick around, and let me get used to this new forum and I'll start modding it to pieces.  (that may or may not be a good thing 3.gif )

I made this!bzt.gif

The only thing I currently don't like right now is when you edit a post, it says so.

Well said Voar Tok. Your not the only one who is going to have to do that, there is a lot of stuff in the Omnibus which needs matienance but in the longrun a few inconvinces will be a low price to pay. Thank you dirk for the work you have done so far and I will continue donating!

Lol...same here.  And your avatar was some dude moving his ares in a rather rapid, disturbing mannor. lol.  Dirk, I LOVE THE NEW ST, IT ROCKS!!!  I'll be happy with it the way it is even if the chat and STEX never are up, lol.  (I rarely use 'em)

This is forum software created by FuseTalk. Computer website Anandtech.com uses this same software, and actually it is quite user friendly and capable when it is all said and done with. This is probably my most favorite forum software out there. It will grow on you, I promise. Though why they got the CFM and not the ASP.Net version is something I do not understand... but I suppose to each his own...

Well, I was going to ask if we can still sbscribe but oh look at the bottom of the post editor... 'Subscribe to this topic'.

Shameful, shameful, I can wait veeeery patiently for ST to restart the STEX and omnibus, so no big rush required over here...

First of all, thank you Dirk and all of the Admins who have been slogging away at this upgrade. If I lived closer, I would surely have offered to help.

I can't wait for the rest of the site to be operational, but just having the forums is a big improvement over no ST at all. Eventually we'll all get used to this just like the last one.

By the way, if you click on "Topic Tools" you will see options like "Subscribe to this Topic" among others.

P.S. I would love to have HTML back in the sigs again.

I not only thank dirk and the admins for the hard work, and personal time (they have lives too...busy ones at that) they have put in to this upgrade...but I also thank them for having the strength to take all these demands and complaints... I remember ST 4.0...I hated it...it hurt my eyes...and I LOVED 3.0...did I get over it? Indeed...I fell in love with 4.0...now 5.0 has come around...do I really like it? Not really...I've always been a fan of Idealbb, so it was hard to let it go...but speed is much more important... The difference between me and others is that I realize this is a freaking FREE site...I've donated, and so have others, but that isn't required...it is still FREE...If you won a door prize iPod...would you complain that it is black and not white? Your complaint would be stupid, worthless, and immature. When something is given to you for free you need to take it or leave it. Plus...this is just temporary...it was decided it would be best to get the community rolling again instead of waiting another few weeks. Thanks for doing this. Everything will come around, and we will all get used to it...get over your personal comforts and if you want your subscriptions to send you updates every millisecond to your e-mail address while outlining all of the current alignments of the stars...then make your own website and do it yourself. And dirk...I don't blame you for getting mad in your posts...I think you really need to...it pisses me off to see people whining about this...and I'm sure you feel the same.

I'm quite pleased with this upgrade overall and I think it's just going to get better as the rest of the site opens up. The only thing that I don't like is the thread page numbers are too narrow now. It's not a big deal for most threads but if you're clicking through some beasty 80 pager looking for something specific it can be tough going advancing at two a click. Besides that though I'm quite pleased. Thanks for all the charity hours Dirk and the admins put in.

dirk & admins

I am sure you are very busy getting the site back up and running, I, for one, want to say thank you for all you do.

Also, i would like to make note of a little problem i noticed - on my profite when i am editing it my email address it looks correct.

But if i click on my icon in a thread then my email address is displayed incorrectly.  there are letters added in the middle of the numbers.

Not sure if this has been reported by others or if i am the only one with the problem. And i know you are busy getting things running, i just wanted to mention it in case it was a bigger issue and i just wasn't sure were a comment like this went or to whom.  anyway thanks again for this great place and all that you do.

seems that i get notifs for most or every reply now, thanks dirk, or the server decided to do it, lol, but if it is possible maybe you could reimport all the pms

EDIT: the topic reply notifs need the topic name in the subject, some say the topic name is reply, and remove the secret question, i dont have any secret questions that are private, most are known to people, and others like high school i cant use because i am homeschooled
