california is so cool because on Winter you can ski at the mountains (Big Bear, Lake Arrowhead  or Reno) and in the summer go to the beach!

Same here in Santiago, you've got beaches 1 1/2 hrs away and 3 ski resorts only 45 mins away!

Heh, here, you can be at the beach in 40 minutes from my area and in 45-60 minutes at the nearest larger ski resort.. Or, if you like ski trails for babies, you can be at the nearest ski resort in 15 minutes. You can also be at the biggest caves in Europe in 30 minutes from my home and in the biggest underground canyon in Europe in 45 minutes... So yeah, it's a pretty mixed area here..

Well, the beaches are only one hour away from here, but the season is over soon,
the water temperatures are already getting colder.
Three hours south of me, we have the Harz Mountains, they are not really high (the peaks are only around 800 to 1000 meters) but they get enough snow in winter to go skiing.

Mid-May to mid-October the beaches are sandy, except in remote lakes, which usually have pebbles or in some cases, rock. You can swim from late April to mid-november in ?Superior, since the lake is relatively warm in the winter. People actually swim in it all year round, although in the winter they go nakjed and it lasts 20 seconds

And for attractions.. 2 minutes from town is a swamp, 5 minutes from town is a volcanic mesa, 0 seconds from town is the largest freshwater lake in the world, 20 minutes from town is a huge canyon, our highest peaks are around 800m, but I don't know if we have any caves.. Huge chunks of agate, amethyst, gold, platimun, and copper have been found here, and they have a lot of things you can visit. In the late 1800s, we built skyscrapers on a sandbar, and mined all the silver out of it. Then there was as torm, and.. it's gone now
