I like the subforums, BUT I'd like them all to be available from the start, listed under the forum they belong to. It's pretty annoying to have to go into a forum and then choose subforum.

Who knows, maybe Dirk can set that as the default option or something. Maybe the new thing will be putting a disclaimer in the thread saying which page view setting it's best viewed at. Stupid, but it would work.

At this point, think of it like moving into a new house. The furniture isn't all here yet. The curtains aren't up. The cable guy hasn't shown up yet.

There is more coming (like getting the member labels back, the chat, the STEX, to name some obvious ones). But we'll get there.

You know, rather than b*tching about the problems, I'll just list them so Dirk can see if he can fix them...

- Line breaks don't work properly. Press Enter once, and it doesn't work. [the - should tell you where each line begins.] [sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't]

- Emoticons. Not too bad, but I kind of miss the old ones. Traditionalist here.

- Fix up the page markers so they show properly in forum indexes. [right now, it only shows [1] [2] [Last]]

- Fix up the no. of post replies so it is the standard 30, not 20/25.

- Maybe add a little text box at the bottom where you can just type in what page you want to jump to? Or a little drop down box with all the pages in it, like what the STEX had?

- Non-standard BB-coding [it's a problem with the forum, can't be fixed.]

- Move the four command buttons further away from the text box window in the Reply Pop Up [which, incidentally, is in fact quite useful, though I despise it...]

- Add HTML

- Remove sig limit [you can't even put links in without going over!]

- Allow avatars to be hosted offsite

- Eliminate scrollbar and empty space at bottom of reply pop up window - they're not needed. [unless you can't]

- Fix up stickies. Define them from the other lowly topics.

- Locked topics need to be differieanted from normal topics, and stickied topics.

- It is unnecessary to have a print button in every post. Maybe move PM user to under user avatar? It is also unnecessary to have User Profile in the top left of every post especially since we can just click on the avatar to go there.

- Personally, I'd prefer to see previews of the emoticons.

- It looks a little bright. But that's okay.

- Make the topic branches somewhat longer in characters, so it doesn't get cut off suddenly. It makes it easier to see what topic it is. [example: FORUMS arrow Simtropoli... arrow Simtropoli... arrow Welcome ba...]

Other than these small problems, the forums are okay.

What I like:

- The category window

- Fast loading times of both reply box and forum topics now that they've been seperated.

- The ability to search specific categories.

- The sidebar [if I remember, ST3 had this feature as well]

- Announcements on the side.

- RSS Feeds. Damn useful.

Oh, and the date is wrong in the announcement. It's March 3, not Feb 3.

And please, PLEASE get rid of the Edited by... bylines. I hate them.

Oh, I found Simtropolis Related at last...

Well, I must say that I really really dont like this forum software. (for starters I hate the colours, it hurts my eyes, I loved the light greys of Simtropolis 4.0)

And this new layout is just totally confusing. Oh! and another thing, I liked the navigation bar at the side. It was easier to use.

There are several styles to choose from in your options. But I'm not sure if their manu settings are correct, looked like they were all stacked in a weird way when I changed before.

And you'll get used to the new layout.

I just noticed that all the subforums are listed under the forum they're under. But it looks like a mess, looks like some regular text jammed in under there. If every subforum could get its own line.

Nice to have ST back! The new look and feel will, as always, take a little getting used to, but hopefully the fact that there are multiple themes available will shut up those who want to whinge about colours.

I like the fact that you can hide the side bar ... it's always good to be able to maximise the space available for the main window, especially when viewing CJs.

So, looking good so far. I'll be interested to see what the updated STEX looks like.

Great job guys As a realtive newcomer to the site I had only just got used to the old forums, but this is cleaner and with the ability to set your own style it truly becomes 'your site' ... neat! Always are a lot of teething problems with a new forum, and bound to be people who love it or hate it. After all, they do say, you can please some of the people all of the time, but cannot please all of the people all of the time. Sure some of the old features might be missing, but I for one will willingly forego a few features in return for speed, so you have a round of drinks on me

A lot of people here have noticed how ST has gotten faster, but for me, any potential gain in speed is overridden by the loss due to slow page loading times graphics-wise.

Sites that load up their backgrounds (in this case, dark grey) from the bottom up (or vice versa) really slowly annoy the **** out of me. Is there a way to rectify this?? Perhaps my graphics settings??

It's 3:30 AM and I just checked ST before going to bed, just in-0case it would be back (well, I spent the last 4 days randomly checking if the site was working lol just in-case).

What I surprise when I saw it was loading, finally!

So I will take the time to explore everything later (I'm going to bedf now!), I'm kinda lost with all this new stuff, but I don'T fear I'll get used to it!
