Whoa! 10 replies, a post from Joerg, and a new page!

ChicAgo, Your address here, Mikeaut, jacqulina, GingerBlokey, and RadioheadFan: Thanks for the comments guys! I really appreciate it!

Yajimari: Yes, there is going to be an industrial port, along with a naval port. I just have to pick a location. Also, thanks for the tip on the airport update. I will look for it after I finish typing this.19.gif

Joerg: First of all, thanks for posting. When I first started building sim cities, before I had ever made a post here, I looked at your cj Trinity every day. I still remember it, and I still love it. My first post was in your cj, and you are where I got the inspiration from to try to build realistic cities. Thanks for that. While it is not my goal to use every building on the STEX, I will admit that I try to incorpirate every new building. I may start a streetwall project, which would mean tearing down several skyscrapers and letting chicago style and new york style buildings grow in their place. I will see how my city looks without the seasonal trees, but if I like them better they are going to stay. I agree with you that, while my downtown looks great, it has very little character. I am constantly trying to fix this, but that is one area I have not yet mastered in SC4. About the water front: I will do what I can, and I already have some plans in the works, but I don't have enough room for anything huge. Thanks for taking the time to make such a complete reply!

Cjah: Ahh, The C.J.'s is good as is... I am trying for somthing better than good. Glad you like it, but everything I make here is subject to change. About my computer, lol no. I have an XP home edition with 250mb ram and 16gb of free hard disk space. Definately not a game computer, and nowhere near a SC4 computer, but it is good enough for me.

Maranello: No, the buildings did not all grow by themselves. I have about 20 or so ploppables in my city, though most of them did grow thanks to my super demand modd.

Thanks for the comments everyone! I appreciate it!

MayorTim, let me first say I really like all of your city journals, you always do amazing work. I have gained a lot of knowledge and inspiration from you and Joerg both. I kind of agree with Joerg however, you should take out SOME (but not all) of the seasonal lots. What I did in my current region is used the seasonal lots with the pine lots and the natural in-game trees, and it works and looks great! As for your waterfront I have found it extremly hard to have a nice waterfront that spans a long distance without it becoming monotenous. It's hard work! One thing you might want to consider are some naval piers, and/ or other types of piers just to break up the shore line. Well that's all for now, I hope you like my ideas. Thanks again for so many great city journals over the years.

If you guys are talking about putting naval bases and things like that in front of my downtown, it's not going to happen. Not because it wouldn't look cool (I would like some piers and stuff) but because I don't have enough room. My waterway is not large enough to support a major dock, and it would end up looking ugly.

No, I mean like anywhere. Maybe create a high-tech industrial town with a naval complex included? Granted, you would need a city on the coast with enough room to create this, and a large city nearby so that the industry could develop.

RadioHeadFan is right on that one...

Because all you need is alittle industry and a cool port...

Also try to tie in some form of mass transit like a freeway or monorail...

Yes, like have a monorail system linking the suburbs to the CBD to the industrial district. By the way, thanks for the mention Cjah.

It's the superdemand mod. I know because I use it as well. Also, I think that MayorTim has mentioned it a couple of times before-look a few pages back.

Yes, I do have several large plans for ports/shipyards/naval bases for this region, since it is, after all, a delta.

Thanks RadioheadFan for answering Brentford Rock's question for me, I do use the super demand modd.

Time for an update, which I think you all will like.

    p15hw.jpg

This update is, again, on Anoka Point. Klondike City and Anoka point are finally connected by development. A thin strand of suburbs is now reaching from the outer limits of Klondike city and snaking its way up to Anoka Point.

    p28py.jpg

Do these woods look better than my Seasonal Woods?

    p31sm.jpg

Here are the suburbs on the Anoka Point side. They are gridded, because I wanted to make the impression that this area was built up before WWII.

    p46rz.jpg

This picture is basically the same as the picture above, except you can see the newer Klondike City suburbs at the very far right.

    p51xi.jpg

And straight out of the 1970's, here is the Anoka Museum of Modern Art, built in the brutalist style.

    p64lw.jpg

Since you all liked the previous picture of Reamon Plaza, here is a more zoomed out view. Also visible is the Museum of Modern Art from the previous picture.

    p72os.jpg

Here is somthing I forgot to include in my last update, Anoka Central Station. There was no station on the STEX that would work for this area, so I just made my own by grouping the standard stations together. 3.gif

    <ahttp://img115.exs.cx/img115/7898/p84ya.jpg align=baseline>

Also new to the region, I added sound walls and lights to the area of highway that crosses through the more urban parts of town.

    <ahttp://img115.exs.cx/img115/6269/p90qf.jpg align=baseline>

Finally, here is an up-to-date region picture so that you can see just how much development has happened. Looks a lot more like a real city now, eh? I have a looong way to go still, but it is moving along.

Comments welcome and appreciated, and encouraged!

Awesome Mayortim! And yes, it does look like a real city. I like the way Anoka Point just sits up north in region view. Also your subrubs (lol) are looking very nice. I like your highway layout in Anoka Pt. as well. Very well done!

Hey MayorTim, great update. I like how you include history into your city building tactics. Also, the Museum of Modern Art looks great. By the way, thanks for checking out Thistlewood. I know it's a little out there but trust me, I'm trying to make it something you won't want to miss.

How the hell did you get your city to grow so fast?! Did you use a cheat MOD to make it grow instantly? Because that's no fun, the real challenge is getting it like that. And what is with the highway in the middle of no where? Personally I would add farms.

I love your city, but how were you able to develope that many skyscrappers that early in the city developement? Do you use certain modds to increase the demand dramatically?

Oh my god, I just answered this question. It's the superdemand mod. If you read the CJ instead of just posting, you wouldn't have to ask. Unless you're being sarcastic, where I sincerely apologize for my critiscism but ask you to be nice, because people have different playing styles.

46.gif Ok, for all of you guys who only look at the pretty pictures and ask questions without reading, lets just hope you won't miss this.

*I USE THE SUPER DEMAND MODD. I CHEAT. PLEASE DON'T ASK THIS QUESTION ANY MORE.*

Also, I would just like to add that I don't use the super demand modd in all of my cities. The only 2 cities in this region that use the Super Demand modd are Downtown Klondike City and Anoka Point. My other cities and all suburban/rural cities after this will have no cheats, with the exception of one. I forgot to mention this, but I cheat for water. I don't consider this a major cheat, and the only reason I do this is because I don't want to waste my time laying pipes.

BTW: Thanks for the comments. 18.gif

You didn't just ask if he used cheats, right? Because, you know, he answered that question like 2 posts ago! And if you were asking that, then I would laugh at you for a complete disregard of what MayorTim just said.

Ummm... I think he was being sarcastic... lol.

Anyway... I like what you've done with Anoka Point.

Your suburbs still bother me, but I guess I'll just have to live with it. 2.gif  Personally, I prefer the roads to be spaced out more, and the suburban streets to look less random.  (take a look at the Edmonton CJ to see what I mean.)

I like how you did the fuel farm and hangers at the airport.  Pretty realistic there.  I don't see anywhere for the planes to turn around though (in case they have to abort takeoff).

I see you thinned out downtown a bit too... still a little thick with skyscrapers for me, but it's not bad.  Joerg made some good points.

Ah, well.  I guess we all have our own styles.3.gif

Where did you get that light?

Looks really cool compared to what you had 5 pages ago. 2.gif

I have quite a few questions to ask you....

    1. What is the overall population fo the region now?

    2. There is a area across the river that seems to have some gridlike stretches of road. Thinking of developing there soon?

    3. What do you think about your region and how its growing?

Thanks for the time. This is a Great CJ. I love your cities and I love this region. You got over 200 replies now so good luck. 19.gif44.gif
