    Thanks for all the comments guys! There is a modd on Sim City Central (I think) that forces one type of tree to grow at any terrain. I picked pines since I like the look of pines, but you could have all oak or all scrub as well.

    As requested, here is an update on the airport. There was another request for a sunset picture of downtown, but I didn't get around to it, so I will add one to the next update.

    p14ag.jpg

    Here is the main terminal of Klondike Int'l Airport. It includes 2 passenger ports and a cargo port. You can also see the monorail system, which links all the parking lost with the terminals, and the fuel tanks.

    p29hw.jpg

    Here is the second terminal, built on the other side of the runways.

    p36po.jpg

    Here is the cargo port, with rail access.

    p44nh.jpg

    This Earthen Dam keeps the powerful Klondike River from destroying the airport. The Klondike River formed in a way that water could very easily be diverted, so this thin dam was all that was needed to stop the current. Water on both sides is equailzed because there is nothing blocking the river downstream.

    p56ws.jpg

    The downstream landing end of the runways. It takes an experienced pilot to navigate the labyrinth of paths.

    This is an experiment for me, so it depends on you guys if you want me to keep it or kill it. I made a mega power station on an island neighboring the airport, which provides enough clean solar power for the whole city. So what do you guys think?

    p86qx.jpg

    I never knew it was possible to build a diagonal power line bridge over a normal bridge. I think it looks pretty cool. 10.gif

    Comments/suggestions welcome and appreciated!

    Eh, I figured you guys wouldn't like it. To quote DT, Into the crap pile it goes! 18.gif

    Glad you liked the airport though.

    EDIT: Does anyone know why the site adds so many lines every time you try to skip a space? It gets very annoying.

    The rich text thing is screwed up...all of my last 4 updates got screwed up with html stuff adding onto the post and making words come out of thin air...luckily i found out how to get past it...post using firefox, it doesnt skip a space and everything else is better. You have to post in html, but its better than having a screwed up post1.gif

    Your solar park looks like...a metallic blue swimming pool on a tiny island in the ocean...or a forest of the Andrews Semiconductor high-tech buildings. Love the airport though. Can't wait for my downtown @ sunset pic!

    Thanks,

    Update!

    <ahttp://img181.exs.cx/img181/1885/p10fz.jpg align=baseline>

    More suburbs were built in Cold River.

    <ahttp://img149.exs.cx/img149/2222/p24od.jpg align=baseline>

    Here is the towns athletic club. It is called Mighty Mike's Gym and Fitness Center, and the company is opening more and more of these throughout the region.

    <ahttp://img210.exs.cx/img210/7827/p32bz.jpg align=baseline>

    Finally, here is a random shot of the city.

    Also, the solar farm has been torn down and replaced with a MUCH better looking nuclear power station. More pictures on that in the next update. The regional population also hit 470,000 today!

    Comments welcome appreciated!

    Still looking very good! I can't wait to see the power plant, and I hope it's better than the solar farm.

    And more suburbs! Yay!

    Keep up the good work!

    No, it is not powering the whole region, but it does power downtown and Cold River. It is actually a cluster of 4 nuclear powerplants, but it looks pretty good.

    Now here is another update. (2 in one day w00t!)

    <ahttp://img109.exs.cx/img109/2531/p19ci.jpg align=baseline>

    Downtown has been updated slightly. Here is the waterfront.

    <ahttp://img187.exs.cx/img187/135/p27bj.jpg align=baseline>

    This is the area slightly to the right of the above picture.

    <ahttp://img187.exs.cx/img187/8524/p32wa.jpg align=baseline>

    A night view of the main waterfront.

    <ahttp://img187.exs.cx/img187/4125/p45ar.jpg align=baseline>

    And again, here is the area to the right of the previous pic.

    Not much, but I am short on time.

    Today I didn't feel like making suburbs, so I decided to start another town. Anoka Point is much smaller than Klondike City, and with a population of about 87,000 and very little new development, it will soon be swallowed up by Klondike Citie's ever expanding suburbs. Here are some pictures of its downtown area.

    <ahttp://img228.exs.cx/img228/2797/p16sa.jpg align=baseline>

    Here is the Downtown Core of Anoka Point. Most of this stuff was build in the 1950s, when Gold was found in large amounts in the mountains around Klondike Delta. The church, however, is from the early 1800s.

    Here are some points of interest around the city.

    <ahttp://img129.exs.cx/img129/7594/p22bq.jpg align=baseline>

    Here is Reamon Plaza (Rie-mon), which is used as a major pedestrian street with many nice fountains and small shops.

    <ahttp://img129.exs.cx/img129/8682/p35cp.jpg align=baseline>

    The old clock tower, which was the first concrete structure ever build in this city.

    <ahttp://img129.exs.cx/img129/5009/p45rs.jpg align=baseline>

    St. Marks Church, the oldest structure in the city.

    <ahttp://img129.exs.cx/img129/7899/p69ol.jpg align=baseline>

    Finally, here is the newest building in Anoka Point. The JaWood Telecommunications Tower was built in 2001.

    Really good!

    2 things:

    Are you going to have a big industrial port?

    And also... you can download the update to joerg's airport pack Airport Beta 2.1 or something.. it really expands the things you can do with the airport (especially with the tarmac and grass)

    Love the map mayor tim.  I have always liked your previous cities but one thing really bothers me.  That is you seem to almost make it a goal to use every skyscraper on the stex.  This to me makes for a city lacking of character and beauty.  Im sorry but i think the downtown is pretty boring.  I dont post often anymore, but i really think you have the potential to create an amazing downtown.

    When i first started building cities in SC4 my only goal was to have a massive hive of tall buildings, and get them as quickly as possible.  The use of the commercial demand modifiers and plop cheats come in very handy for this.

    Perhaps what im getting at is the need to let things happen naturally.  Dont go all out with the skycraper thing.  Just let them build by themselves.  And try to keep only one of dominating buildings.  This can be hard though wiht all the great tall buildings on the stex.  The problem is that a city with all tall buildings has no character.

    So my suggestions (only meant to be cronstructive)

    -Take down the massive towers pick a few of your favorites and let the rest fill it self in naturally.

    -build some more parks and leave out the seasonal trees they stick out like a soar thumb.

    -grids are great, but never perfect they may have round abouts, diagnols, big holes in them or sudden changes in grid size.

    -most cities develope with a vibrant water front that at one time was the heart of every coastal city.  The water fronts are never natural with tons of piers and shops.  In simcity i have never found a good way to do coastal areas but i have noticed that the more detail you put into them the better they turn out.

    -intergrate your transportation network as if it were a last minute decision because most of the time they are. Again something ive always had trouble with.

    -finnally one great way to keep the fun alive in a region is the let the downtown expand as you build the region.  I always used to build a massive downtown then go onto the suburbs, but taking this route just means you will be building burbs forever and that is boring.  Build some downtown and then enough burbs to feed it for awhile and keep doing this until you have a massive city and a fitting downtown that you have been able to play with the whole time.
