    The Road to Albany

    Albany is accessible by rail and road.  Here's a look at some of the routes that connect Albany to the rest of the region.

    The Verde River Gorge is south of Albany on the other side of the Ohio Mountain Range.  I-14 runs along side it until it bends south.  The C&R Railroad is used for both industry and tourism.
    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Gorge.JPG width=640 align=baseline border=4>

    S.R. 6 can be quite hair-raising at times.  It winds through the Ohio Mountains just north of the Verde River.
    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//2tunnels.JPG width=800 align=baseline border=4>

     Don't miss this turn!

     A look at S.R. 6 and the C&R Railroad running through the Verde River Gorge.

     Scenic Newman Falls
    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//newmanfalls.JPG width=800 align=baseline border=4>

     S.R. 6 runs just north of Newman Mining Inc., which has been operating for over a hundred years now.
    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//newmanmine.JPG width=800 align=baseline border=4>

     I-14 (east-west) and Highway 24(north-south).  Highway 24 runs north into Albany.
    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//hwy24andI14.JPG width=640 align=baseline border=4>

    On it's way to Albany, Highway 24 runs through beautiful farmland and the rolling foothills of the Ohio Mountains.

    Date: 3/31/2005 5:18:34 PM Author: kingofsimcity I know a solution to your picture problem. Try Naming it differently. If you give simple names, it might be overlapped by other pictures with the same names. Make it more Unique...

    Yes you're right.  Actually, I just figured that out a few days ago.  I would name my JPEGs something like bridge.  If someone else has a CJ with a JPEG named bridge in it, then it's possible for the two pics to get mixed.  So now I try to use more unique names.

    Thanks.

    Old Town at night

    Old Town is probably my favorite neighborhood in the region so far.  At night, the detail is just amazing.  I want to thank porkissimo, xannepan, erdmoebel, deadwoods(are you from Deadwood SD....real cool little town), and vanderaap.  These people did unbelievable work on some of these buildings and I wanted to show some of it up close.  As always, thanks to anyone else whose creations I use.  Enjoy! <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Atnight2.JPG width=800 align=baseline border=4>

    Just a quick update of the Arena District in Edwards that I'm working on.

     HSBC Arena with the plaza that I built around it.
    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Areandist.JPG width=800 align=baseline border=4>

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Arenadist2.JPG width=800 align=baseline border=4>

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Arenaparking.JPG width=800 align=baseline border=4>

    Some of the commercial area in the arena district.  I'll develop this a little more along with some residential lofts.  The subway stop is only half a block west of HSBC Arena.

    Aleking:  Thanks again for your comments.  Hopefully that other thread will bring some more visitors here.

    The Arena District is coming along well.  Here are a few more pictures on it's progress.

    Thank you for the flattering words parrothead!  Digby is one of my favorites as well.  Maybe one day mine will be as extensive.  I would like to start using more maps like lewellan222 has in Digby, but we shall see.

    Sloppet:  Thanks for the comments and here's your update!

    Aleking:  Glad to see you've stopped by Patoka Bay again!  I do try to give each neighborhood it's own look.  It breaks up what can be a very bland looking city otherwise.  Especially when I'm creating what I hope to be a large city like Edwards.  I'll have to stop by and check out your  Adventures in Design  again.

    Now......on to the update.

    The Arena District

    &

    Broadway Commons

    The Arena District is finally finished and the results are very pleasing.  Come take a look.

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Distmain.JPG align=baseline border=4>

    Property along Broadway Commons is very expensive.

    The Cineplex at the Commons
    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//commons5.JPG align=baseline border=4>

    There are plenty of trails to stroll or jog along.
    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//commons2.JPG align=baseline border=4>

    The Park Hyatt Broadway Commons
    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//parkhyattbroad.JPG align=baseline border=4>

    Due to some time restraints, I'll have the updates for Union Station and The Capitol Center next time.  Thanks for stopping by!

    This looks really great!

    I like the way you layed out the rail in the arena district. And the park is really beautiful. But quite a few white posts, are they lamp posts?

    I'll be watching this in the future. 44.gif

    Since I don't have a lot of time to consistently update this, I've decided to throw out a preview here and there during my busy times....just to keep the interest alive.

    In the next update, we'll get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and head off to the countryside. We will be visiting the town of Albany. Right in the heart of Patoka Bay's wine region, the vineyards around Albany have been producing great Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Late Harvest Riesling for well over a hundred years now.

    Glad to see some visitors in Patoka Bay.

    the_crispbread_witch:  Welcome!  I love The Adventures of Jack Noland .  It's one of the most creative, story-driven CJ's out there.  The white posts you see are part of the  Diagonal Trail Parks White Version by Jeronij.  I use Jeronij's creations fairly liberally.  I'm glad you've enjoyed everything so far.  Thank you.

    jacqulina:  Great to see you back again.  I'll be returning to the Verde River Gorge in the near future for some more development (not much though).  I'm glad you like the parks.  Thank you.

    nofunk:  You wouldn't want to drive S.R. 6 after a few drinks.  Thank you for the comments.  I'm glad you've become interested and I hope to see you back soon.

    mteach2000:  Welcome!  That vineyard is just outside of Albany.  I plan on developing the wine region much more in the future.  It will take lots of time though and I'm kinda back into a big city frame of mind so I'm developing Edwards a little more.  I'm so pleased that you like it.  It was a lot of work.

    Updates are coming soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ThePeoplesPerson:  Thank you and welcome to The Patoka Bay Region!  I'm glad you like the Capitol Center.  I think it's much better than my original concept for the area.

    Union Station

    Finally, for today, here is some of the new development in the neighborhoods around Union Station.  Enjoy!

    Below is the Clocktower.  It acts as sort of a navigational landmark in Edwards.  To the right of it is the historic Patoka Theatre which still runs 99 cent matinees everyday.  The Edwards Athletic club is just above the theatre.

    Really beautiful layout there. I like your use of the trails, especially as they run alongside the roads. You've clearly put some thought into designing these districts and making each one unique. 44.gif

    oroen:  Thank you and welcome to Patoka Bay.  I think it becomes easier each day to make these distinctive neighborhoods with all of the great new work that keeps popping up on the STEX.  I appreciate the kind comments.

    Seaport Village
    &
    The Ballpark at Seaport Village

    Here it is.  The development of Seaport Village and The Ballpark at Seaport Village is about 90% complete. Here are some of the pictures of what is there so far.  Enjoy!

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Seaover2.JPG align=baseline border=4>

    The Ballpark at Seaport Village is home to the Patoka Whales, winners of 7 world championships.  It's early in the season but the Whales are off to a great 15-8 start.  Home run balls land on the El tracks all of the time.
    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Ballparkatvillage.JPG align=baseline border=4>

    Here is the statue of the great Louis Garazzi, the first owner of the Patoka Whales.

    Some more pictures of the village.

    I'll release some more pictures of this neighborhood soon.  Just need a little more tweeking.

    Thanks for visiting!

    More from...

    Seaport Village and The Ballpark at Seaport Village

    Back again with some more pictures of the village.

    These plazas are great for before and after-game activities
    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//anotherballview.JPG align=baseline border=4>

    I will be expanding The Port of Edwards in the near future.
    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//ported.JPG align=baseline border=4>

    One of my biggest problems was finding a nice transition from the industrial docks to a recreational boardwalk.  Little did I know that the answer was much easier than I thought.
    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//portandvillage.JPG align=baseline border=4>

    PEG's Fire Dock  fit perfectly.
    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//fireboattransition.JPG align=baseline border=4>

    The new King Street Rail Terminal
    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//kingstterminal.JPG align=baseline border=4>

    With the close proximity to the Port, I would like to add more lofts to this area to make it look like it used to be industrial.
    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//loftsatseaport.JPG align=baseline border=4>

    I'll have more for you later today so stay tuned!!!

    Edwards from above

    Thought it might be a bit helpful if I provided some regional views, so here you go.  Before I get started though, I just wanted to tell you a few things.  First, Patoka Bay is a HUGE region so these pics are just over the Edwards Metropolitan Area.  Second, I already know the water textures look horrible from this far away so please cut me some slack there.  Third, I am also aware that the beachs do not look so good from this view (I think it's the water texture).  Now that that's out of the way, let's get to it.

    Here it is, the Edwards Metro Area.
    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//PBregionview.JPG align=baseline border=4>

    Here is a map of some of the neighborhoods in Edwards.
    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//edwardshoods.JPG align=baseline border=4>

    Finally, here is a transit map.
    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//edwardstransit.JPG align=baseline border=4>
    YELLOW = Subway
    RED = Elevated Train
    GREEN = Ferry
    BLUE = Interstate

    As you can see, there is plenty more development yet to be done.

    Back with more updates soon!

    Thank You for the Continued Support!

    Simtropolis depends on donations to fund site maintenance costs.
    Without your support, we just would not be in our 24th year online!  You really help make this a great community. *:thumb:

    But we still need your support to stay online. If you're able to, please consider a donation to help us stay up and running. This helps sustain a platform where we can share our community creations for years to come.

    STEX Collections

    By way of a "Thank You" gift, we'd like to send you our STEX Collector's DVD. It's some of the best buildings, lots, maps and mods collected for you over the years. Check out the STEX Collections for more info.

    Each donation helps keep Simtropolis online, open and free!

    Thank you for reading and enjoy the site!
