Cineplex Odeon isn't a movie house, it's a hell hole. The old two screen Paramount downtown is a movie house. Shame it was forced out of business. 15.gif

Tim wHoretons is international, it's based in the US and has many locations there. It is recognized as a Canadian institution, though, as there isn't one Canadian who has never had a timbit, aside from Mouthless Jim from Scarburra.

...Huh? The Paramounts were owned by Famous Players which is now owned by Cineplex, so I don't quite see your point. 3.gif I will admit, I liked Famous Players much better than I like Cineplex, but... what can you do?

Oh, and I took movie house to mean any sort of theater, so if I was wrong in my interpretation.. well... sorry. 3.gif

Paramount was opened in the mid 30s, it's building is in the typical style of the time. It had the old ticket booth where you wait outside, and go in seperate doors depending on the movie you're going to see. It closed in 1999, shortly after Famous Players SilverCity opened, but it was run independently from the mid 80s until then. It's now a 'wiggles and giggles'

My point was, Silvercity is a big, 18 screen, arcade, food court, big box monstrocity surrounded by 6 hectares of parking lots and loaded with a bunch of dumb kids that always screw something up, and they charge no less than 15$ to see a movie. The only other cinema in the city is the Cumberland 5-Plex in the north end (built in 1955, first cineplex to have surround sound, and largest until 1982s 8-plex in Victoriaville) offers movies for only 2$ a ticket and free matin

IE has been simplified too. That I don't like. They're doing the same thing they did to windows to IE. Since when can you refer to Shutting Down as Turning Off? I always thought there was a difference. Nor do I like fancy gradients and seemingly 3d buttons. I only like IE7 for the favorites thing (not sure what to call it

) and the tabs

Big movies come out a few weeks later there, but you pay less than 7% of what you would at Silvercity. Basically, Silvercity isn't a 'movie house' it's an arcade/food court/parking lot/monopolising POS with no place in society. And their seats are uncomfortable.

Before Silver City we have 9 movie houses and 3 cineplexes. We now have Silvercity and the 5plex. Humans are great at making stupid decisions. 4.gifquote>

Well times change, and generally those movie houses don't seem nearly as efficient as the multiplexes. I believe Edmonton has 2 movie houses, as you call them, still, The Princess theater and I *think* the Paramount downtown still exists.. not sure on that one.

Personally, I prefer the multiplexes better, but that's just my opinion. Edmonton has an 8 theater, a 9 theater, a 4 theater and a 10 theater for smallish ones, as well as a 14 theater SilverCity and 16 theater, which is the one I work at, not to mention the 2 dollar theaters in town.

This IE7 beta runs surprisingly well.  No glaring errors to report at this time.  Maybe Microsoft got something right for once . . .

That's actually quite nifty you knew that much about your city beebs. I m'self grew up with one two-theater in my home town. I remember that they never really had first-runs, but it was nice to walk home from work at night and see the sign bedecked with hundreds of lights hawking their latest flick. Ahh, memories...

come to think about it, I had several friends work in a 18-theater Regal Cinema in the city. That place had the largest concessions stand I have ever seen. But no matter. That's why I hate going to megamalls.

s.i.X:  Vid, did you go off your meds again?  Be nice.

defcon pilot:  I believe we claim extraterritoriality for bases the same as for diplomatic missions.  The interface rules are a bit differrent, since the Afghan mission is a combat base.

Eastwinn:  If you have a private account on your machine, why not download FF anyway?  Loyalty only goes so far with the I've Been Moved company.

MsD: Factory burger served with fries and a glass of milk.  Enjoy.  What's new from squirrel land?

___idiotbox:  Welcome.  The autochef serves a glass of freshly squeezed lemonade.  Enjoy.  So who sent you to us?

ryanb_sc4: The XYL uninstalled IE7 Beta 2 because of some problem she can't remember.  I seem to remember that it hung her machine during a download.

It's not that there is a problem with me using FF, I just want to suppport Microsoft. And besides, who feel like switching to a new browser anyway? Too much new stuff to get use to.

'And besides, who feel like switching to a new browser anyway? Too much new stuff to get use to.'

It has a most handy print out telling you how things change, like the bookmarks, instead of being 'ctrl+b' is 'ctrl+b', reload is 'F5' isntead of 'F5', etc. I like firefox because it can be set up so IE works in it. 4.gif I tried IE7, I didn't like the look at all (I'm a minimalist) and their tabs are a bit screwy. I'll agree with you on livefavourites, though, I use Google Favourites, it has a menu in firefox, and it's pretty handy. You can access your favourites from any browser or computer.

@nobby: cuz nobby sounds cute, I guess?: I didn't have meds. It's just something I feel strongly about is all.

@yuki: I'm still calling you Yuki: who might your favourite author be?

The only good thing about IE, well two, is it has the program thing that doesnt work with anything BUT IE (which is morally wrong, but meh) and when you use the scroll wheel, IE goes much faster. I find with firefox I use the side scroll bar thing or the home/end keys alot. Also, Firefox isn't constantly running in the background like IE, so it takes a bit longer to start up, and because of the tabs and extensions takes longer to load.

And why support microsoft anyway? 3.gif Don't they have enough clout as it is?

18.gif No, I was referring to the grand Green Depra creator and ST member, ChocolateMax285... Chocolate Milk, ChocolateMax... you see the similarity... 21.gif  I guess I'm tired when I make jokes like that... 5.gif

sloppet: Served.  Don't you find the tomato sauce somehow overpowers the katsup?

___idiotbox:  Well, we are certainly the longest running.  This place was actually inspired by Spider Robinon's "Calahan's Bar".  We do need a kid to tickle the ivories as Fast Eddie Costigan is not available.

Jacky:  Not surprising.  Coffee served.  It is selected Kona from the slopes of a volcano.
