It gives you many more options for transportation (trams, roundabouts) , these are all the things which weren't possible in SC4 unmodded, it can also shorten commute times:
  • Missing Rail Y-Stack added.
  • Diagonal Start/End Road & OneWayRoad PuzzlePiece items adjusted to reduce possible terrain indentation when being placed.
  • Graphical improvements made to GLR on PedMallTile items.
  • Various ElevatedRail on Street Dual-Networking PuzzlePieces added.
  • GLR Loop PuzzlePiece item added.
  • Rail double Width\Tile Orthogonal S-Curve added.
  • Rail (Double) Diagonal x Orthogonal Unlimited. This supersedes the previous Double Diagonalx (single) Orthogonal Rail junction.
  • Avenue Intersections\Junctions: several new avenue intersections &/or junction types have now been added &/or are now possible.
  • OneWayRoad Roundabouts have now been added.
  • Street Roundabouts have now been added.
  • Adjustments implemented for Avenue curve x Road/Street/OneWayRoad to address graphical issues.
  • Adjustments made to several PedMallTile items due to graphical conflicts.
  • Shadows fixed on ElevatedHighway Curve & several ElevatedHighway Curve x Street/Road/Rail/OneWayRoad/Avenue junctions.
  • A list of Additional Intersections & Junctions (for normal networks) has now been included & can be found in the Contents.
  • YIMBY Effects on Ped Mall Tiles & Footbridges adjusted to more balanced levels.

Even with a lot of RAM (I have 2Gb's) This game slows down to a crawl as soon as you load up with a lot of goodies from the STEXadamb10, try your best to be selective in what you download. 10.gif

I would say that SimCity 4 is arguably unplayable without it. It makes the game far more realistic than it previously was. I would highly recommend it.

The Network Addon Modd has radically changed my gaming experience. It also allows custom lots to be transit-enabled.

...........In short, the Network Add-On Mod is a much needed addition to the game. It addresses commute issues and introduces new transport system options. 1.gif

When I installed the NAM, I chose 2xCapacity, 10x<something else, i can check later if it's important>. Should I have chosen Standard instead? I haven't even played SC4 since I installed the NAM but I'm afraid it will make the game too easy and I won't feel the sense of completion if I'm going to play it legit..

Thanks. This is my first post on simtropolis, btw.

I would like to continue that argument and say that SimCity 4 is now unplayable without Simtropolis. Yes,that sounds pathetic and cliche', but oh well. I don't want to criticize Maxis too much because, after all, they developed the game to begin with. However, they must begin to realize that not all cities look like L.A.

It's your call. However, I don't think the game becomes too easy by using the NAM. You still have Budget Balancing, Making Realistic Cities, etc. There are a lot of things you can do in the game! Enjoy!! 1.gif

I use the NAM ALL the time...personelly use the (betterpathfinding standard x10 comute ) it work better than the origianl version...and more realistic too29.gif

the Nam fixes so many glitches and bugs it would take to long to list them all46.gif

there are many new transit option that you can install with the NAM too...but the are optional to install37.gif
(eg custom highways) if your system is taxed by all it's plugins and other custom content...I suggest an incomplete intallation of the NAM ( don't add the parts your not going to use)and maybe, being more selective with buildings.

ps...every once in a while i go a liilte sandbox crazy and use the some of the more radical ones...just for the fun of it.

No, it can't - sorry. You need the expansion pack, which is well worth the extra cash. You can't really download anything good here (well, when it works again) without it.

Hi, I need some assistance with the NAM. While I'm technically not a new member, I have not had much opportunity to enjoy SimCity 4 since I originally signed up and have made little use of Simtropolis (something I hope to change in the near future). Anyhow, my question is: I have the NAM, now what? I have all the files downloaded onto my computer, but how do I put them into my plugin folder to make it all work? Do I put all of the NAM files in, or just the ones I want? The instructions I have don't seem to explain exactly how I do that to select the pathfinding I want. Can anyone help me? Thanks.

Hi, I need some assistance with the NAMquote>
If you download the latest NAM, it has an installer. So it will setup the required files automatically in the correct folder. Download the latest one as soon as the 'Modds & Downloads' section is online again. There is an alternative link for the NAM. Get it here. But I have my doubts on whether it has the installer executable file in it. 46.gif

Thanks for the info. I was actually able to figure it out, although embarassing as this is, I had the whole NAM (all of the files) in my SimCity plugins folder which was making things interesting. Needless to say, once I figured out that I was only supposed to have the one file in my plugins folder, SimCity started operating much better. The new NAM also has some really cool stuff in it so I'm having fun with it.

I truly recommend NAM because almost everything that is transit enabled in the STEX requires NAM.

I may be wrong, but I believe that Simtropolis (besides the official Simcity site) is the only Simcity 4, forum website that they have actually made something themselves (NAM) and I think they are the only website to create a CD for NAM and tons of other lots & mods.

***** i think that you might hover the nam pieces over a transit lot like a station so BE CAREFULL or it might be some of your plug ins conflicting with each other

It will do that sometimes, but the +s outweigh the -s for sure.

10 mb for the nam is not worth what the nam is worth!even if you have 256MB of ram , you should get the nam!

I have 1 GB though... it doesnt really matter as much for me how many plugins I have.

EDIT: guy who needed help - (it replaced you name with asterrisks(*): check this thread out , its probably a faulty plugin.

Hi! I have a problem with NAM: when i install it, the transport facilities on rail (train, GLR, monorail) goes wrong, only the subway works. And the rails cut off the roads even. There is a railway-road crossing, and the cars simply can't go through! If anybody can help me, please! Thx!

Any chance that this can be made available for download again? I can't find it here anywhere. Just broken links.

I tried installing the NAM (Jan 2007 is all I could find) it ran very quickly and said it installed. However, I was not asked any questions during setup except the folder it was going to install into. There is nothing in my Plugins folder related to NAM. I'm running Vista. What am I doing wrong?

The plugins folder is in your My Documents folder and Vista has My Documents in a diffrent location. By default the NAM installs to the XP location. You will have to change where it installs to so that it is in your plugins floder when it asks.
