The Whale in the City!

What is believed to be a Northern Bottlenose Whale has surfaced in the River Thames in London! This is the first time it is believed to have happened since records at the British Museum of Natural History began in 1913. It is not known why the Whale is in central London, but it is heading upstream, and passed the Thames Barrier earlier this morning. I heard that story as I just finished school. It is pretty much a spectacle, but unfortunately, the bottlenose whale might not be as well as I thought of.

Wales is more common in Cardiff .... but Whales are even rarer. I once saw a whale on Yarmouth beach.

W(h)ales in London, eh? That's geographically wrong in more than one way!

A great place to see whales in the summer is the Gulf of Maine. A lot of whale watchers from Cape Cod go out to the Stelwagen Bank, so there are a few of them out there at any given time. I was also on a whale watch out of Bar Harbor (Maine), though, and got a much better show that time. Whales got closer to the boat, and we were the only boat around.

So far, rescuers are attempting to get a giant sling underneath a whale which is stranded in the River Thames in London, according to BBC News.

Yes but about once a decade counts as not very often. You don't expect to see whales in the Thames or really in the UK at all.

It got beached a few times in the night, but they are still trying to put it in a sling. People are throwing water on it, it's at Battersea now, which is a bit further from where it was yesterday. They think they will move it by sea, but it could be lifted by land or air...

Poor whale    he probably wasn't well in the first place since it sounds like his navigation system was out of whack but I was hoping they could get him back to the open sea.

I'm afraid to say that I believe that baby peguin died as well, but I think the parents had another peguin. (((Off-Topic)))

 

Anyways, I feel very sorry for that whale. Does anyone know why or how that whale got down in London?
