That is actually quite unique! I've never seen anything like it! Big congrats from me! Hopefully this will come as useful help for those keen CJers out there!

very interesting. i had often thought it would be cool to have this in cities but never figured out a way to do it. now we all know and can start tunnelling all over the region. i guess you could use this same method to have tunnels under rivers thatform the border between two cities and you don't want a bridge over.
i've included a fairly poor paint rendition of what i mean, i don't see why it shouldn't work. haven't tried this out yet but will do later and will include some screen shots to better demonstrate what i mean.

Very clever, I would recommend speacking to SkiGeek about having it put in the Omnibus.

Yes it is ... because its a normal region connection. The only thing I did was hide it from view. I have send a message to Skigeek to inform her of this short tutorial to see if its eligable for placing on the Omnibus.

Furthermore .. thank you all for the kind comments. I hope you find this littel trick useful. With more overhanging lots there would be more options to this kind of stuff. Currently I am figuring out how to use the BAT tool ... so perhaps I can do it myself in the near future.

If the extended water lot was re-made into an extended concrete lot or extended grass lot that would be even better, because you may not want a pond.

Exactly ... thats why I am learning the BAT as we speak. I have spend two nights working my way through one of the tutorials now. I probably need at least a couple of nights more, but eventually I will get there.

I have had contact with Skigeek for publishing the tutorial on the omnibus. I have to alter the format to omnibus standard. I will also make some simple overhang lots to present different options. Expect the result in a week or so.

Excellent use of an offset rendered lot! I will deffinately be 'borrowing' this idea. It is amazing what you can do with such lots. I hope we will start seeing more of them on the STEX.

There is another way if you create the connection before building up the city.

At first, you have to create the hole for the tunnel start as shown and a real lake at the city border. Enter at the cheat console:

    setSeaLevel 0

All the water disappears. build the tunnel and the neighbor connection, save and exit the city!

Then open the opposite city and enter the same cheatcode again and build there a tunnel connection from the empty lake to the surface. After reloading the city, there is water in the lake again with a little railroad under water looking like if the tunnel disappears and comes up in the neighbor city.

What a cool idea - and thanks for sharing with us...

Will definately use it in my CJ when its out *grin*9.gif - esp the grass and concrete overhangs *smile*44.gif

    Cheers!

Even though this was made 2 months ago, I still think it is a cool idea. I'll try it, but I'm not sure if I'll use it.

As everybody knows it is not possible to create a tunnel between two city tiles. What we also know is that nothing is impossible when you put your mind to it. That is exactly what I have done.

Working on my cj Graafsticht, a come-back I got the idea that a railroad tunnel underneath a river connected to a second city tile would be quite unique. With some thinking and try-and-error, and the help of the PEG Pond Kit, which you can find here: https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?mode=files&filetype=BAT&Str=peg%20pond%20kit%20%20deluxe%20edition , I have managed to make the game think there is a tunnel between two city tiles.

I am sure a lot of you have already 'discovered' this option too, but for those who haven't, I have made a short tutorial. Lets go and see how I made my Region Tunnel.

    Step 1.

    Terra forming.

In order to dig a tunnel to a neighbouring city tile we must raise and lower land to create the foundation for a tunnel. The first pic shows an example of what I mean.

    Regtunnel1.jpg

Important is to have a small and narrow piece of land lowered near the border between the two city tiles. I have tried to create a double width stretch of land, but as we will see later it isn't possible to create the Region tunnel for lets say an avenue.

    Step 2.

Dig a tunnel. This picture speaks for itself

    Regtunnel2.jpg

    Step 3.

Use the extended water lot of the PEG Pond Kit. Place two of these lots on the sloped wall of the tunnel so the water tile overhangs the rail road.

    Regtunnel3.jpg

    Step 4.

Use the extended water lot again to completely cover the sunken railroad. ( In zoom one you will see a tiny gap between two of the lots at the border of the map, but its almost undetectable )

    Regtunnel5.jpg

    Step 5.

Create your river or pond anyway you like it and you will end up with a fully functional region tunnel.

    Enjoy
