I was wondering something : do you prefer build big or little cities ?...
Can you tell us, to your mind, what are advantages and drawbacks of a big or of a little city ?...

I prefer both:

It is good to have bigger cities in the path of coastlines, radial/trunk/orbital roads and city/town centres. The medium-sized cities would go nearly everywhere and the small tiles fill in the rest, where there is not enough space for medium-sized cities.

I prefer to play from the region perspective, with many different cities of different types and sizes.

SC4, Forevermore!

Currently preoccupied with architecture school...lurking with caution.

Exactly, the region allows you to make cities as big as you want and still allows burbs In other SimCities you had to choose between looks and population.

One of the cool things about SC4 is the region-playing. Unlike SC3, we can play multiple cities in one game, allowing us to create Megacities on one side of the map and smaller Towns on the other.

I like to create both, myself.

I like cities with a small downtown with tall buildings with communities spread around the downtown area. so i pick the last one.19.gif

I like to mix things up.  I start my region with rural and expand on into industrial, suburb and then scyscraper forest!

Rural->Village->Smalltown->Suburbia->Midrise commercial/residential->High rise commercial/residential is a nice way to get stuff realstic, atleast that's my opinion. For regional play that is.

If I had the skills to make a large city, I'd go with saying I take the metropolis approach. The entire region can be big, but smaller cities connecting to it are a good idea. It seems more realistic.

I like a mix of all kind of stuff. A huge metropolis in the center and suburbs all around it. In some Regions I even have two or three metropolises, so I say I like a mix of all.

Mixing everything up is sort of my speciality. (Not only in SC)22.gif

I guess the variation of cities and landscapes at the regional look is one of SC 4's biggest advantages and challenges as well. Surely one can get into cultivating a special craving for a specific kind of cities and plaster the region with them, it's a free world, but in many aspects I do not find that interesting. (Eg. in terms of realism, design, networking, ... )

THAT'S WHAT SO GREAT ABOUT MANY THREADS IN THE FORUM: 29.gif44.gif

I was never much into farming or ports, but after viewing the discussions and absorbing all the inspiration, one finds new focus points in the game. Some of them, like farming in my case, has even developed to a very special love.

A love I never knew I had, until it was nurtured by me looking away from what I thought I liked the best....36.gif
