If re-elected, the Liberal Party of Canada will make weapons in space illegal.19.gif

Not sure how they'll complete that monumental task, but I bet it will put a damper on their laser plan!9.gif

Wonder how long before terrorists get their hands on one and start frying people at random? We'll have to build a titanium dome over Washington!6.gif

I say ban the technology before the next 3rd world hell hole gets the chance to get its revenge on any nation that even bashed it....

Trust me if I was in any position of power I'd ban this before other countries learn of our ways and make their own weapons of laser desruction....

If this is going to be used in America or I mean above America then I'm not going to enlist in the army...

Why bother when your enemy can just press a button from space and end the battle and how many lives would be ended just then....not including my own considering I would have been in the army...where has the glory and pride of the past gone?I welcome the REAL war and not this BS....

Hurray. Reagan-era Star Wars projects for the DoD to spend billions on while our soldiers aren't even outfitted with proper flak protection. USA! USA!

And shouldn't we worry about Dr. Evil getting his hands on it?

I shall call it....THE ALAN PARSONS PROJECT!

Yay! Lets spend billions on a useless weapon while our schools crumble and our infrastructure collapses. Not to forget the pain and suffering it will cause (like the atomic bomb). Gotta love big fancy weapons. 20.gif Give me a break. 21.gif

This is the proof human race is advancing just to be destroyed by ourselves, I'd say ALL weapons should be illegal, a biiig step into human evolution.

BTW, I'd be more worried about the USA-government-terrorists using this weapon other than the terrorists 34.gif

Well, there goes the old ball game. If it is known it can be done, some evil bunch will do it. It is therefore incumbent on the good guys to do it first.

As for the weaponization of space, well, what did you expect? Man's greatest efforts have always been directed at inhumanity to man. As for Canada voting yes or no, do you think anyone will even ask us?

Exactly my point....

I remember what I learned of WW2 and the cold war its that the US can turn its back at any moment it pleases on any of its allies.....

The USSR and the US once had peace and coperation during the war,but then Hitler has fallen and it must be back to the old ways of communism is wrong and that sort of thing...

The reason the USSR was so pissed at the US in the first place was because of FDR's promise to Stalin for a 10 billion aid program was scraped when Truman took office....Then the US starts acting like its ally in Europe is West Germany and not the USSR after the 20 million lives were paid for the freedom of Eastern Europe. You want to know why Eastern Europe was made into Communist states? Its because of the way the US kept ignoring the needs of the soviets...then Truman rushed to use the A bomb so he could scare the USSR and keep them out of the war on Japan preventing further aid to the USSR because Stalin wanted Korea which would have had the industry neded to supposrt Russia and the rest of the USSR at that time.If Korea or that 10 billion dollar aid ever was delivered to the USSR then many things would be different today.....

The reason I went on forever above is to just say this.....Humans are and will piss off others humans....wheater it be political reasons or a simple misunderstanding....I hope that these weapons will never see the light of day,but many are right....we can't get rid of the technology, but we can stop the weapons if we try....

Well, I'm not sure I like this idea, just imagine:

*Walks out of house to pick up morning newspaper*
...seconds later...
*Bizzzamm! You are killed and fried by a lazer*

Yeah, not good. Don't allow it, but I wonder how trustworthy this new source is. Never heard of it before.

It is technically possible that something like what you mentioned could happen, but then again, it is also possible that they could do that with the nuke missiles, but it hasn't happened.  I have a feeling that the government isn't stupid enough to use just any kind of security system to protect those things.  It can be done, but the probability of it is slim.

Plaque affixed to the leg of the lunar landing vehicle signed by President Nixon, Neil A. Armstrong, Michael Collins and Edwin E. Aldrin, Jr. The plaque bears a map of the Earth and this inscription:

HERE MEN FROM THE PLANET EARTH
FIRST SET FOOT UPON THE MOON

JULY 1969 A.D.
WE CAME IN PEACE FOR ALL MANKIND

We can inspire others through witness so that one grows together in communicating. But the worst thing of all is religious proselytism, which paralyzes: “I am talking with you in order to persuade you.” No. Each person dialogues, starting with his and her own identity. The church grows by attraction, not proselytizing.    - Pope Francis

No, I don't believe the device itself is invisible, it is the laser that may be invisible when it does strike.

Anyways, that weapon isn't the only laser weapon the military has recently developed... here are two more machines that were in the original article that I had to take out because for some odd reason they wouldn't work. (These photos aren't fake, but they are conceptual. These photos were released from the military).

    Laser Airplane

    LaserWeapon.jpg
An artist's conception shows a reddish beam emanating from an Airborne Laser system, with another beam being used against missiles in the background. In reality, the beam itself might be invisible.

Voar Tok: What self-respecting country wants to go to war with another country that can obliterate their army without leaving home?

This was advanced as the same argument for nuclear weapons and MAD years ago. Did it stop people from going to war? Absolutely not.

Let's take The Day After example. East Germany blockades Berlin. Russia moves into East Germany and then crosses the West German border. NATO retaliates by airbursting nukes over Russian troops. With the gloves now off (we started using nuclear weapons first), Russia retaliates by launching pre-emptive nuclear strikes on missile silos and industrial infrastructure with ICBMs (lots of civialians dead). The US retaliates against them with nukes (lots more civilians dead). Nuclear winter. The northern hemisphere reduced to a fallout-laden stone age existence. The war is over right? Wrong. The president comes over the radio and tells the civialians they have a ceasefire with the Russians and that we will rebuild. The militaristic undertones are unmistakable. One of the characters mentions a qoute from Einstein. I know how mankind will fight World War 4. With sticks and stones.

What nuclear proliferation did do was increase the level of damage that could be done to an enemy's infrastructure and civilian population. MAD worked NOT as a deterrent, but as a psychological terror weapon. The problem with using battlefield/tactical nukes is that it becomes a slippery slope. Well, if I can push a button and wipe an entire battalion with no losses from my side why wouldn't I just push a bigger button to nuke their infrastructure and kill the army at its source?
