NDP, that looks quite nice so far. However, I don't really like the streched grid on the diagonal railcrossing. Though I'm not from the UK and don't know how it is done in reality.

Also I'd like to suggest a photoshop layer model (if it hasn't been done, yet):
1 - network topping
2 - lane separator
3 - car related additions (stop lines, zigzags, arrows, etc)
4 - car related text (IE 'ONLY', depicted traffic signs)
5 - pedestrian related additions (those broken lines on itersections, Zebra lines, those ZigZag-no parking zones)

Keep up!

Wow these are brilliant. This is progressing really well.
Simcity is becoming Britilised.

Oh and just a few suggestions 49.gif
- Bus Stops
- Car Parks
- Taxi Ranks
- Pedestrian Areas
- Different Low Density Pavement Textures
- No Stop Signs
- Proper One Way Street Arrows
- Junction Lanes
- Bus Stations

Just a few of many

We forgot the most important thing about British streets, roads, etc

A few screens from my newest city, to show where I've got

What would people think about keeping the old textures around bends? It would save a fair bit of work, and the double yellows are similar to double white lines we have in the UK, so it gives a bit of variety, especially to more rural areas.

NDP - that looks amazing!  Even though I'm American, I appreciate the work you and other modders are doing here.

I really like how you've got the railroad crossing set up.  Great job - and keep the good work coming!

NDP That is awsome what you have there...Is that how all the streets in Europe are?If so then I can finally make a european C.J. YAY!!

Also is it possible to make different street signals? If so then SIM CITY 4 is going European very soon!29.gif9.gif

Waaa!!!

Damn.

I've been using Sim City 4 since it came out with my traffic lights on the wrong side of the road... How do you get them on the left hand side? is it part of the mod or standard?

And I really like all these UK textures.. especially the crossings. Shame you dont have the same crossing lights

Dave, I'm going to be working on fix for the avenue stoplights shortly. I have found the mirrored models of the poles the lights are on and I will make a fix using them. give me a week or two. I'm still trying to figure out how to mirror the road stoplights that are on those short poles....

This is really cool, when is release expected?

I really hate to say this, but it's done when it's done. 2.gif Setting up deadlines and release dates is nice, but folks will always be disappointed when it's not ready at that time. So let's appreciate the hard work of the modders and encourage them in their efforts rather than being picky and constantly asking about the current status. 1.gif

This will be a rolling project - there will be no final release. When I've done enough textures for it to look good IMO then I'll stop :-)

I have an alpha version which I would like people to try out, but I have no-where to host it. It is greater than 250kb, so attaching it won't work, and I don't want to put it on STEX just yet - it is only an alpha version, so if anyone could help out here I would be very grateful.

I believe i have started something big. Those textures look great!

Why does one drive on a parkway and park on a driveway?

Why is delivery by boat called a cargo and one by land called a shipment?

The above link is a download for the first alpha of the UK road textures mod. It is far from complete.

If you download it could you please report back

    a) Any bugs with textures I've changed and

    b) What remaining textures appear most often, so I can prioritise what to change

    Have fun 44.gif

I`ll try to give it a go when I get back from work - looks great from the screenshots so far. Depends how fast my council workers can paint the roads, too... 2.gif

This is a great addition to the game.  No matter how many UK BATs are created, without a replacement road texture the US origins of the game are going to remain blatantly obvious.

I've given this mod a very brief try.  I've noticed no stability problems or odd graphical glitches.

The most common unmodified road texture in my case is for a diagonal junction, when one road joins another at an angle.

I'm looking forward to having a complete set.

NDP - I think we should coordinate our efforts. Over at https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/view.asp?mode=viewtopic&topicID=59577&num=30&pageNo=3  we now have an almost completed euro road textures mod. Thorvin has done most of the textures now, and I've helped a little bit. Still a bit left, but not much, really.

I think that instead of making a completely seperate UK mod where you have to re-do all the textures that we've done already, you may want to make a UK version of our stuff, changing just tiles where there is a difference between left and right driving, and where there would be UK-specific textures. Then we could pack it all up in one release containing both versions, where people could choose one or the other.

Better and less confusing for all, I think. Just a thought...

Don't let it die! This is great and a completed version is much anticipated by me!

And please don't call it an English textures mod. It may not sound big but it is UK and not just England that have these textures, thanks.

I can't wait until the full version. Any idea of how much work you have left?
