Query about BSC Essentials from SC4 Evermore

Hey all!

Just a quick Query about the BSC Essentials pack over on SC4Evermore. I am in the process today of locating missing dependencies with BSCcleanitol. I'm still figuring the software out, with varying success. With updated packs, I have some of the original packs, dating back to 2005/2007. I am always afraid of deleting files, what with my plugins being relatively old. 

Can I delete the older packs without issue? as well as this, I have the BSC Essentials v.2023 and also the BSC Essentials OG. Do I need both in my root Plugins folder?

Hi @Jackspital,

The updated versions in the BSC Common Dependencies now Version 8 are based on the original dependency packs and most of the cases they only expand the old packs by later added models and props. There are a few rare cases when certain thematical props had been moved from one prop pack to an other (but those are also contained in the common dependencies); for instance: the w2w supporting props that were originally released over several uploads on STEX around 2004-2006, then were merged into a BSC MEGA Props Misc vol02, now have been moved to an updated version of the BSC MEGA Props W2W vol01 v2. 

If you are unsure, DO NOT delete your old props. USE one of the 3rd party cleanitols: 

- nos.17 Cleanitol (new tool released a month ago)

- BSC Cleanitol (old but stable tool)

In the cleanitol propgrams there is an option to move the found files out of the Plugins instead of deleting them. Or you can manually remove them. In essence the new prop packs are superior to the old ones, they are also fixing some hidden or less known bugs. The contents that are going to be rehosted on SC4Evermore in the future (as the restoration of the SC4D LEX) will be based on the updated packs and the dependency lists will follow these changes.

So I would say, if you have enough space on your computer then make a back-up of your plugins folder, then run the Cleanitol_MASTER REMOVE LIST_BSC Common Dependencies Pack Version 8.txt file with one of the above linked tool and move the found outdated files out of your plugins. Then run the installer and install any of the prop packs (since you are about the replace your old prop packs with the new ones in an existing plugins folder it is better if you do a full install, except if you are sure that you don't need certain prop packs). DO NOT use the inbuilt cleanitol of the installer this time.

You need the BSC Essentials v2023, but you do NOT need the BSC Essentials OG. That's a very old and outdated file superseded by many previous versions (from 2008 onwards) of the BSC Essentials.

Thank you for such a detailed response @Tyberius06. That's super helpful. I have a monthly plugin backup just incase so I'll give the cleanitol a run. Because the basis of my plugins folder is from 2015 - 2018, a lot of it is outdated and in odd places. Due to my modding negligence, I am now spending my spare moments attempting to order and update old files

I was downloading some old Sim Goober files and when I installed it, I noticed someone snuck in a file called BSC Essentials v2024a

 

It's in my root plugin directory.   I DO NOT have the file BSC Essentials OG , but I do have the file BSC Essentials.

 

Do I need this file along with BSC Essentials v2024a or do I delete the BSC Essentials ?

You must keep the BSC Essentials v2024a (and whatever versions will come after this ) and the BSC Reward Eseentials.dat. You do not need to keep the BSC Essentials OG.dat, as that one had been included to the essentials in 2008ish.

A while ago I used to have a BSC Essentials OG and deleted it.

I do have the BSC Reward Essentials, but just checking if ok to remove the BSC Essentials.dat

Yeah all BSC Essentials.dat, BSC Essentials 2021, BSC Essentials 2022a, BSC Essentials v2023 versions can be removed.

You need the v2024a and the Reward Essentials only.
