Hi everyone.  I recently installed the 4gig patch for sc4.  My game continues to crash.  During play it becomes so slow.  I have task manager up when playing and it only shows sc4 using about

1.4 to 1.7 gigs of memory.  I have a rysen 7 5000 series with 3060 video card and 32 gigs of ram.  This game should be flying.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

SimCity 4 is a 32-bit game that use a maximum of 4 GB of RAM.  The 4GB Patch allows 4 GB of RAM to be used instead of 2 GB of RAM. To check if you have installed corettamentr the 4GB Patch you need to install FULL NAM and start the game. If SC4 crashes while loading the city then the 4GB Patch was not corectually applied and you have to apply it manually by following this video

    Thx Ulisse

So no.my games isn't crashing during start up. It does crash during play, alot. I was just curious because task manager shows sc4 never going above 2gb.  Plus on the 4x4 tiles the games slows so much it's unplayable. Maybe I try manually installing it

If you are experiencing slowdowns while playing the game it can be caused by several factors

1 Too Many Mods --> DATPACKING (NAM DATPAKCING Guide here)
2 Too new GPU --> Follow this guide on how to corectly configure SC4 on modern hardware

SimCity 4 doesn't work like that I'm afraid, it uses a lot of old code that simply isn't optimised to take advantage of modern hardware. The #1 reason why SC4 crashes randomly is failing to restrict the game to running on a single core of your CPU. To do this you need to add the command -CPUCount:1 to the startup settings.

After that, even with a very fast PC, expect slow down eventually, it depends on the number of mods used, population and other factors, but it's just inevitable at some point. However it is possible to get the game stable and worth checking you've setup SC4 to work well with your hardware, in reality that really means your graphics card.

Head over to my Lot and Mod Shack to keep abreast of my latest developments.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

New to the NAM? Check out my tutorials on YouTube. Latest upload: How to: RHW - MHO Roundabout Interchanges. (Nov 25).

p.s. - I'm MGB over on SC4D and a member of the NAM team.
