Changing Capacity Satisfied With Reader

All I'd like to do here is lower the occupant size, but I've never done it so I was hoping to get some reassurance I've done it properly. I've identified the last number there as the maximum capacity, so if I just change that by about half will everything be fine?

What exactly are you trying to do?, I ask because Capacity Satisfied has nothing to do with Occupant Size. This relates to the number of jobs/sims for this building, which reads a little like as follows:

  • Low Wealth
  • Value
  • Medium Wealth
  • Value

It makes no sense to be editing things in Reader unless you truly understand what you are editing though. Much easier to do things like this in say PIM-X or SC4 Tool.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

I'm just trying to lower the occupant size of a house. I read elsewhere that this can be done with Reader by editing Capacity Satisfied. When I looked at the 4 values pictured, I discovered that the last one (001B) converted to the same number as the maximum occupancy of the house (27). So I was just wondering if this would just be a simple matter of changing that number.

OK, I think there is some confusion on my part because Occupant Size is a property which relates to the size/footprint of an object used in the Lot Editor. So in essence it sounds like you simply want to alter the 'Number of Occupants' of a given building, which is indeed what Capacity Satisfied handles.

You could change the value for this, but again I wouldn't recommend doing it in Reader, because things are not as simple as they first seem. For example, the reason that this property has 4 Reps (Values) is because there are values for both Low and Medium Wealth usage. Should the building become dilapidated, it can find itself occupied by Low Wealth sims instead of Medium Wealth ones, which would be the default. Likewise there are other related properties, the most important of which being the Growth Stage, simply altering this value without considering the other related ones might actually have unintended consequences, especially if you change it drastically (50%).

Again, it's all rather complex to explain, but these values should not be manually entered based on figures you've decided are correct, they need to be balanced based on all the contents in your Plugins folder or things won't play nice together. For example if you changed this value to 14, it may not have the correct Growth Stage, preventing it from growing or making it grow too easily. Likewise, the Low Wealth value should be changed in a corresponding manner. Also things like Water/Power usage and a myriad of other properties would no longer be in sync with the Occupancy.

If you use the advanced PIM-X tool, you can 'ReCalculate' such values and it uses a fixed algorithm that ensures all properties of a lot are configured based around a consistent system that ensures everything plays nicely together and works as intended. But if you try to just manually set these figures you can run into a lot of unintended consequences which are hard to explain unless you have a firm grasp of how all the properties of growable lots work together.

Ahh, well this is exactly why I thought it'd be wise to consult an expert first. Reader is what I'm familiar with so I was really hoping I could do it there but it sure sounds like PIM-X is the way to go.

Also, is it safe to make these changes to lots that are already in your plugins? Or should these changes only be made to lots that have yet to appear in any city?

Feeling a bit lost here, but is it Capacity Satisfied that I should be editing?

Ideally you would remove any existing lots from your save files before modifying anything, in my experience the potential is always there for problems when this isn't done. Although in the case of capacities, anecdotally you may well be OK, but with all the issues I've seen I couldn't give you a 100% guarantee there.

Yeah, love your houses! Just seems to me that the number of sims living in them is a bit high.
