MTT S80: Potentially the best GPU for SimCity 4?

Hello,

Sorry for a bit late but Linus made a video about MTT S80, the first Chinese-made graphics card.

It only supports DX9, which is perfect for SimCity 4. It could be the fastest native DX9 card ever produced. I want to see how much is the potential. But this card will be political thanks to the current political climate. Hopefully one of us will enjoy this card.

Yeah, if you ignore how it's comparable to a GT 1030 card performance wise and is unfathomably inefficient by comparison, compared to almost anything else.

Frankly I have an ATI Radeon 3870 (512MB) GPU which SC4 can't fully utilise, likewise a GT 630 card also, neither are noticeably worse than using a GTX 960. Given that SC4 can't use a fraction of the power of even older and low spec GPUs, where exactly are the benefits of this GPU? From everything in the video, it's a hideously unoptimised GPU, which can barely run any games under DX9 even, whilst using a ridiculous amount of power in the process. Add to that the cost of the card and difficulty in obtaining one, frankly this card doesn't seem to have a good fit in any scenario, not least for SC4.

I didn't check the list of supported titles, but unless SC4 is one of them, this wouldn't even be a card that could work with SC4, let alone work well. Either way you'd be foolish to buy this card over a decent 2nd hand GPU if native DX9 support was your goal.

Head over to my Lot and Mod Shack to keep abreast of my latest developments.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

New to the NAM? Check out my tutorials on YouTube. Latest upload: How to: RHW - MHO Roundabout Interchanges. (Nov 25).

p.s. - I'm MGB over on SC4D and a member of the NAM team.

GT 1030 to be exact, more like the DDR4 model and even worse. And the list unfortunately never mentions SimCity 4, at all. The closest we get is Dwarf Fortress 2, PES 2013 and WE 8, and some Chinese-market games.
