Hi,everyone:I have a  question about How to change the Lots name,do i just use Reader?or another tools?

E.g:“68BayardSt_JTF2011_9b27143c.SC4Lot”,I want to change this for my own name ,maybe called “Stree Shop.SC4Lot” or whaterever i like.  I also read many posts about “ILiveReader”,but i still don't understand, especially in terms of specific operation. Is there some video 、 pic or guide book can show us to study for beginner? really hope someone could help me,very appreciate it!

First you need to know that the filename you see in Windows is completely meaningless to the game, it doesn't use it in any way, except to determine load order.

There are three potential ways your item gets named in-game, either:

  • User Visible Name Key Property
This will show an ID, if the property is present, it means that the item name is linked to the LText file with the ID shown. If you have used the Maxis LE to 'copy' another lot to make yours, you might find this property is copied too, you should in such cases delete the property.
  • Item Name Property
Here you can simply type the name you want to appear and provided no UVNK exists, this will be shown.
  • Exemplar Name Property
If neither of the above options are present, then the name shown will be that of the Exemplar Name, but I wouldn't recommend this method.

Reader is a powerful tool, there is a user guide for it, but what you really need to understand is the data you are looking at in the SC4 file. For example you really need to understand what an Exemplar is, at least the difference between a Buildings, LotConfig and Prop Exemplar and also the basics of linking objects together, using the Hex ID system. All Exemplars should have an Exemplar Type property, so it should be easy to find the Buildings Exemplar in a simple Lot file so you can edit the intended values.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

The Exemplar Name Property is the one shown when using Either BuildingPlop or LotPlop cheats. So you can edit either the Buildings Exemplar and/or the LotConfiguration Exemplar respectively to customise these values.

Save is fine, only use save as if you wanted a new copy of a file. Note this won’t give the contents a new ID, so in effect will make one file an override of the other. Which can cause a lot of problems so probably best avoided doing this with Reader.
