Subway Based Override

Is the subway based override for connecting FLUPs still available in NAM 43? I've seen a Youtube demo on how to use it in NAM 39, however I've just updated to NAM 43 from 38.

I've tried connecting the RHW underpasses with subway as shown in the demo (and at How to Use the New FLUPs - NAM & Transit Networks - Simtropolis) but the tunnels are not changing to road tunnels.

Also I see the red X is above the left hand lane on the underpass (and the green arrow above the right hand lane) - is this always the case even if using LHD mode?

The models are a single piece, so without special LHD versions, that will remain the case. If you are good with Photoshop or similar, you can edit the FSH textures, copy both the Green and Red arrows to new layers, then switch their positions until they line up in the alternative position. Not the easiest job, but certainly possible, I really don't know if Girafe (who made them) wants to re-render LHD versions, so this might be the best solution. I'll probably do it at some point myself, if that materialises I'll update the NAM so these come as part of the LHD install.

Should be, we don't general remove features once they've been added. It sounds like you might be doing something wrong, any chance you could provide us with a screenshot showing the problem?, it would help to troubleshoot the issue.

Head over to my Lot and Mod Shack to keep abreast of my latest developments.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

New to the NAM? Check out my tutorials on YouTube. Latest upload: How to: RHW - MHO Roundabout Interchanges. (Nov 25).

I was wrestling with this yesterday, the version 39 tutorial uses the old portal Flups that had a U-road piece 2 tiles after portal. That was changed in ver 41 so you now have to place The U-road piece your self, and overriding the portal no longer changes the type of underground network used.

The section on the new Subway-based FLUPs in the NAM Documentation covers the revised way to build them.  The way originally introduced in NAM 39 started to cause all sorts of problems when people tried to build two FLUPs portals side by side (as became more common in NAM 40, when we added the RHW-4 portals), so it was revised to use starters underground.

    Thanks for the replies.

Turns out I'd bee trying to use the RHW/RD underpass in the roads menu as shown in the NAM39 demo and hadn't realised there was the underpass / underground starter in the highways/RHW menu that I need to use.

Yes, the portals used in the new system were temporarily located there during development, and but were moved to their own button under the Highways menu before NAM 39 was released to the public.  My video isn't really and wasn't intended to be a tutorial, and I've added further disclaimers to prevent any sort of confusion with that going forward.

I've been adding a few of these tunnels in my cities. I seem to have connected them up properly, theres a line showing right through them (low congestion) in the traffic view, but traffic doesn't seem to be using them at all, instead using alternative routes.

For example I've connected both sides of a river in one city with RHW subway override but the commuter traffic seems to be leaving the city instead of crossing the river (from the side on which at the moment I only ahve industrial zones, all the residential is on the opposite bank). In another city I also have 2 avenue crossings connected with underwater transparent FLUP squares and traffic is using these (but not the RHW/subway tunnels it seems)

Anyone had similar issues or ideas where I might be going wrong?

I tried doing a traffic simulator free drive through the tunnel, it crossed the river and then just carried on across empty terrain rather than emerging from the tunnel exit.

Unfortunately, the Draggable Subway-based FLUPs can't allow traffic under actual bodies of water, and you will have to use the old system in those circumstances.  U-Drive-It (UDI), in Free Drive or on missions, will not use the Draggable Subway-based FLUPs, in any case, since UDI isn't compatible with the Subway network--regardless of the types of paths (Car or Subway) that are on it.

How do you make a smooth curve using the draggable override method? It seems like mine are always sharp angles. Is there a god video on this? Sometimes a good video is better than written words but not always.

Since these networks are underground, there is really no functional purpose for including WRCs or equivalents. These are visual things really and the amount of work vs the value of having them underground just doesn’t add up.
